For a new Christmas tradition for River: give her a unique ornament or two every year that you put on the tree. Then when she is much older and moves out, she can take her ornaments from over the years with her. My parents did this for me and I love it. Even if I don’t get to see my parents as much I want to around the holidays, my tree is a piece of home with my special ornaments and my first tree never felt bare.

My sister's cat was drinking from the Christmas tree water and ending up getting extremely sick from it, toxins in the tree. We had no idea about this but the vet said it is very common. There are covers you can get to keep them from getting to the water.
YES Fleur! I totally agree about the Father Christmas thing :-) My children are 3 and 2 and I've trained them from the very beginning to say Father Christmas rather than Santa. We're English, not American!
Skiing is age 4 here in the U.K. or for group lessons on snow, but a good ski school will take 2.5/3 yrs old for one to one sessions. I learnt when I was 6 and am determined to get my daughter on snow as early as I can because I want her to love it as much as I did!
Summer christmas is the best!! Living in New Zealand we go out to the beach, cook a bbq and socialise outside. Plus we’re the first to get Christmas in the world :)

Just so you guys know the water for your Christmas tree is supposed to be toxic for cats! The sap in the water is not good for them at all. I'm sure you would notice if it was affecting them but I would highly recommend blocking their access with some wire mesh or something in future just in case they have too much.
Definitely teach river to ski early! I first went when I was 4 and im so thankful my parents did that! Also there are some places where they have a ‘ski kindergarten’ type thing, so the little kids can ski if they want to on the baby slope, or they can just play in the snow, which I think is nice for little ones!

I did get her one, apparently here in the US a cheese board spread is a must for entertainment parties. The problem is I have know idea about what kind of cheeses you should use? lol. My Irish parents always called him "santy" or as I used to hear it "sandy claws" . I believe the cheese nose is the pointed bit at the end of wedge cheeses.
Our family cat also drinks the Christmas tree water each year, ALOT. It basically becomes his seasonal water bowl. This year my parent's have moved to a condo, so no more real tree...we're sad the cat won't get his tree water anymore hehe.
River can learn to ski at 3 years, but take it easy if you start when she is 3. Most kid who start at 3 years will learn slow and only have the energy for to ski a couple of hours a day.
My niece is nearly 11 months and we rook her to see Santa in early December(twice in one day)and she was fine the first time, the second time she was screaming! And I'd love to see her at Xmas but it isn't happening-she is being pretty spoiled though by the whole family!
