No one is denying that, but should musical standards be lowered because they are younger? I think not. That's why they should be subject to the same stringent requirements to maintain the quality of music. Too many people are concerned with being pc. If they aren't good enough yet, and the music doesn't sound as good as it can, then they should be criticised, constructively of course. It's sad and condescending, to think, 'oh he played well for a kid', it's almost offensive.

It's kinda hard to do a session like this on a song like the heroique polonaise, because it's up for so many different interpretations, and none of them are technically "more correct"

Perhaps it’s only my impression but to seems that at the beginning he just neceser to get used to the piano on which he didn’t have an opportunity to practice before the concert. The ending was much better than the beginning. The master’s remarks how to play a polonaise - priceless.
Its weird because my lessons with my teacher are so much like lang lang's masterclasses because my teacher's views are so similar to lang lang's views But lang lang has some very good points (like my teacher)
I think the points Lang Lang gives are very important to any piano piece, many teachers want their students to be like this but it’s the ones that can use the information that will rise to the top.

I think Rubato is a escencial thing on Chopin's pieces. But I'm agree with you because he Always Play the whole Piece Rubato, and that is not good in special cases like in this piece

I don't know if the guy/student is nervous but he playus so rigd and to be hones, doesn't seem to know how to keep tempo or follow it. I's one thing to interpret the music and then another thing to miss the timing/tempo of specific parts. With that said, we need more Lang Lang teaching because he's more entertaining than even the music being played.

Très décevant cette master class… Aussi exceptionnel soit-il comme pianiste, Lang-Lang s’avère être un bien médiocre professeur (oui, il sait chanter mais à part ça ? Techniquement ? Tellement de crispations chez ce jeune interprète et aucune respiration. Et le son ? Tout le temps le même du début à la fin, épuisant à écouter). Pas un mot sur ces trois éléments essentiels alors que ce jeune pianiste fonce sans réfléchir mais cette pièce est tout sauf une démonstration de virtuosité, comme le voulait Chopin d’ailleurs. Chopin a noté « Maestoso » ce qui veut dire « Avec une lenteur majestueuse ». On en est très, très loin ici! Transmettre, c’est un métier différent qu’être un virtuose. On en a la parfaite démonstration ici.

Why are his tones so short. It is supposed to be heroic, like in a historical sense right? There should be more body to the music. I mean this guy is a superb piano player, obviously. He doesn't need to make it sound jovial in the "trotting" left hand. What a shame.
I like some parts of his interpretation, but I have to say this piece is too much for him. He needs to polish his technique, and it's better if he could present a piece he is more skilled, even a simpler piece. Maybe he wanted to prove himself before Lang and students, but I can't even say he had completed the Polonaise.

The whole piece just felt rushed like he was trying to get to the end. I didn't feel like there was an interpretation per se.
