Beautiful. Profound. Moving. Prescient. Raw. Timely. Peter Gabriel is a hugely under-appreciated musical genius. His voice has darkened, now deeply raspy and chocolate-dark with emotion. All my life I’ve listened to him. Took me years as a young woman to realise the true edge he brings to his songs, tackling so many difficult or controversial subjects with empathy and humanity. He wrote it over 35 years ago, but it could have been written for today. We were warned. Here comes the flood... Drink up dreamers. You’re running dry.
One of Peter's many masterpieces. I'm a huge fan going back to the beginning of Genesis. No other music has moved me quite like his. His vocals, creativity, songwriting, and live performances have defined a brilliant career. Of course he's far from done. We're fortunate for that.
Peter Gabriel´s music is the companion of my life. From genesis to revelation to his solo career, especially live blood. Here comes the flood in this ´adult´version is full of depth, knowledge and wisdom. Simple piano chords without orchestra accompanis this wonderful song.Thank you so much, Peter.
@@kropchik Yes, I didn't know this song (In France Peter is not so much famous than in England or USA) but it seems to be very complex chords ;) I become a fan ... :) What a voice, what a charisma, and what a talent!
I LOVE this song so much and as i sit here looking at this clip i can't stop thinking about the world today, you know BATACLAN, NOW NICE, I CRY FOR THE FLESH AND BLOOD OF THOUGHS WHO SERVIVED AND THOUGHS WHO HAVE LOSE THERE LIVES. DRINK UP DREAMERS WE ARE ALL RUNNING DRY :'(
His poetry is first-class...always leaving so much space for imagination. The flood can be so many things, material and not, and the power of the sentences goes stronger in any direction you want to take them. That is ART.
This could go down as one of the best days I can remember in my lifetime. Walking on the beach on Butterfly .. 🦋 Elon Musk stepped in. Thank You. Peter not sure which party you represent but peace is key for ALL nations. Poland is a country that cares. Where are all our countries we helped all these years? They are not cowards! They need to step up and help AMERICA.
I am now 70 years old, but have been a massive fan of Peter Gabriel, since graduated with Distinction Honours from Bristol University many moons ago. In my humble opinion a true genious of wonderful music & apparently still going strong. I discovered Peter's incredible talent, when I was at Bristol University. Absolutely brilliant, concerts I attended with my Bristol Poly buddies all those years ago, with great groups playing incredible music e.g. Jethro Tull, Elton John, Led Zepplin, Genesis, Queen, to name but a few. If any of my Bristol Uni buddies, see this message I'd be honoured & thrilled to hear from you all these many years later, Ex.graduate of Bristol University, many moons ago, warmest, regards, Jeremy Peter Spencer F.R.I.C.S.
I love how Peter's voice has changed over the years, but still remains distinctively Peter Gabriel. I absolutely love this version of Flood. He leaves a lot of "space" in it, perfect for a song with such emotion.
This song has speaks to me of the floods of life, the storms of life. The tighter we hold on to the old, the more the old becomes an anchor which will drown us. I give up my islands and flow with the flood in faith. In truth, that is all there is.
This is my favourite PG song. That high phrase “it’ll be those…” is just chilling. And it’s good to hear that after all these years his voice still hasn’t lost an ounce of strength.
His voice is really incredible. It touch me very much I'd love to have this little break like him. I become a Peter Gabriel fan as I look all these videos... What a talent!!
I truly hope, Mr. Gabriel, that you see some of these comments. What your voice and music mean to so many people. I, myself can mark the years by you music. But to be fair, it was your 3rd album that got me, then I went back and continued forward up to I/O. Thank you !
Just an incredible poetic song, a song about life and triumph and sacrifice and the futility, and how we go on anyway; and the singer only gets better with age. Thanks Pete.
Peter Gabriel's music has always hit me in my soul. He has the magical ability to compose sounds that seem to come from some other dimension but also resonate with everything that is most epic in human joys and struggles.
As of today, 56 people dislike this video although I can't for the life of me find anything to object to in it. Having the gift of being able to make music this good, for so long, should be appreciated and applauded, literally and figuratively.
I'm right there with you man. I grew up hearing Genesis music all the time cuz my dad is a huge fan. But it wasn't until i was about 16 that I started exploring Genesis and Peter Gabriel more myself. That's when i started to learn the lyrics (though they make no sense) and memorize the pattern of each song. I'm only 19 myself and i would also love to see him back with Genesis.
I just seen him in Chicago a few nights ago, and your summary of his music hits it perfectly. When he played "Dont give up" I cried my eyes out...that's never happened to me at a concert. Simply amazing. I wish he toured more often.
One of my favorite performances... so honesty and emotionally powerful. This song has helped me through hard times and I'm grateful to Peter for writing such an amazing work of art.
The man is a genius, he writes a heart moving song in the early 70's warning the world about "global warming" and how something needs to be done....and no i'm not a green person, before anyone rant's - he is just a very tuned in man int. humanity and how we all need to play a part,
For me this is the best version of this song.
I totally agree. I’ve heard other versions as well, but they just don’t reach this level of emotion.
What an instrument Peter's voice is.
David i think Peter's voice is a dream...
Peter never you and Phil should have unfortunate discrepancies because love of free music prevails. Best of the best.
You both are the best.
The best of all.
Get yourself’s back to where you ended a long time of being selfish. You are the best if the best. Work together. Brink is back to reality!
If this does not touch your heart you may not posses one.
The silence in the crowd.. It's not often that happens in a live show. Magic!
We were just praying 🙏 ❤❤
I wanna be friend with everyone who listen to this song
The mans a god
Then hi pal. I'm recording it now as a matter of fact. Check my page, or morbid man on SoundCloud for more songs. Keep up the good taste.
So we are friends
brothers :-)
Keydo, I've never met you; but if there is an afterlife, I am sure we will be quick friends.
A voice, a piano, a song. This is beautiful music with a charismatic genius: Peter Gabriel.
As the years go by, Peter's voice just gets richer and richer. Beautiful song!
Agree
Totally agree - his voice is more interesting now, a bit raspier and complex.
like wine
Beautiful. Profound. Moving. Prescient. Raw. Timely.

Drink up dreamers. You’re running dry.
Nicely put.
Beautifull said…..I don’t know you, but I love you allready❤️
Love your comment.
We were warned. Peter put into such a timeless classic. Humanity is finished. Farewell everyone xxx
A fantastic comment to a mesmerising and prophetic song.
What a stunning version of this song. Peter and a piano, nothing else is needed.
Totally agree with that.

You mean very complexed harmony piano chords... :-)
@@kropchik Yes, I didn't know this song (In France Peter is not so much famous than in England or USA) but it seems to be very complex chords ;) I become a fan ... :) What a voice, what a charisma, and what a talent!
There are no words to describe my love for him and his music.
DRINK UP DREAMERS WE ARE ALL RUNNING DRY :'(
One of my favorites.
Thoughs? You seriously spell it _thoughs_?
'spelled'
Klugscheißen macht unsympathisch!
As much as I love the earlier recordings, there is something so wonderful about the light raspiness of his older voice.
agreed!
This is one of the greatest performances of all time.
Oh my God, yes.
His poetry is first-class...always leaving so much space for imagination. The flood can be so many things, material and not, and the power of the sentences goes stronger in any direction you want to take them. That is ART.
Peter thought that the studio version was overproduced so this is as good as it comes.
Some songs just touch your very soul and this is one of them.
Yes... and gently.
I was in front row in Milano in 2003. I can't help from crying every time i listen to this song.
PG saved my life so many times.
I saw him in Detroit a few years ago. A dream come true.
What a wonderful evening that was !
One of the greatest and most emotional songs ever written and performed.
Agreed! Only topped by the Johnny Cash cover of the song Hurt?!
This is a musician that speaks the truth. Not just words but real spiritual music. Many have made music for money. Not Peter..❤
What a voice... what an instrument... what a softness... what a beauty... what an emotion... what a song...
Thank you, Peter.
I have not listened to this in a while, thanke for posting this, it is a truly beautiful song.
We grew up together. Now we grow old together. Peter Gabriel and the soundtrack of my life. Love always.
Outstanding 1977 - outstanding 30 years later!
This must be the best version! Really like the small changes he made in the melody on this one.
Questa non è una canzone..è un capolavoro!

this tune is remedy for everything...met you once Peter but again ..thank you! for this kind of treatment...
Genius isn't a good enough word.....peerless perfection!

the laptop, the lighting, the voice, and words, the face. I love when the old blends with the new.
The floods coming, the mans a prophet.
Takes my breath away...tears...beautiful words, voice, feeling... the virtuosity of his soul..
I grew up with Peter Gabriel and every time I'm a bit down I just listen to his voice and reminisce the good times.
not just an artist - he is a voice for love and peace and human rights. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
@Peter Gabriel thanks a lot - I am fine always when I am watching Videos of Peter Gabriel- I am a huge fan of him since I was a little girl. 🥰
Beautiful version, I was there in 2003 . . . can't wait to see the IO concert ❤
The i/o concert was pure perfection ! 🙂
Good grief. How can anyone dislike this? This is beyond beautiful...and true.
A voice of Peace, in such troubled times.
An amazing artist.
Beautifully said.
Humanity, integrity, and a voice of cobalt blue. The Man.
My favorite song of Peter's...so deep I feel the oblivion.
Best performer/songwriter of all times. Period.
Another song coming from heaven.
Kattys song
Stefano Spagocci or to take you there.....this is the main song i have chosen for my funeral....
Peters voice matures like a fine wine, only gets better and better
This is my favourite PG song. That high phrase “it’ll be those…” is just chilling. And it’s good to hear that after all these years his voice still hasn’t lost an ounce of strength.
This one always makes me cry like a child...
I think it's one of the greatest, most beautiful, spiritualy centered songs ever written.
A witer and a performer.. always reinvents himself.. amazing guy this Peter gabriel is. I admire him.
I've witness this goosebumps overload in 2004 in Paris on Growing Up tour. Cried like a baby.
An anthem for humanity
His voice is really incredible. It touch me very much I'd love to have this little break like him. I become a Peter Gabriel fan as I look all these videos... What a talent!!
Absolutely beautiful rendition, brings a tear to my eyes & warms my heart. Jennifer you are truly fantastic.😊
This song has so much relevance today. Happy Holidays To Everyone In 2020!!! Peace and Love!!!

Peter Gabriel's music has always hit me in my soul. He has the magical ability to compose sounds that seem to come from some other dimension but also resonate with everything that is most epic in human joys and struggles.
PG is God. Still the best song he ever made and the best live performer I have seen. Awesome
Each note and each word perfectly written and performed by a master of his craft.
Immortal.
Thank You...
Again... The King !
This performance proves that simplicity has its own beauty, perfection in what is said and what is not...
What a legend! They don’t make singers like this anymore
to many viewing instead of imagining....
a true genius who continues to show how talented he is and how timeless his songs are!!!
Quelle voix! Quelle chanson!!! Des frissons partout !
This has got to be one of the best songs ever written. Thanks for giving us so much Peter!
Saw him play this at the same concert back in 2003. Beautiful song played by an icon.
We all get older! PG takes it in his stride, naturally and is as great a song writer as ever. Long may he continue.
if ever there was a song that touched so many different emotions.
Another classic Peter Gabriel song -so much space for the mind here, landscapes stretching for miles. After 30-odd years this still sounds fantastic.
I just wiped a few tears away myself... What a beautiful song.
His music is filled with passion and it shows...
You are a true artist. A brilliant artist and beautiful person
i used to run to this song at night, empty suburban streets
Gorgeous, he's the best on the planet !
A talent from another time or dimension, he has no equal, thank you Peter.
Otherworldy, beautiful. Thanks.
Peter Gabriel is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Artist in all respects

I think this song is incredible. A soothing one of its kind in that in the midst of chaos and tragedy...there is peace.
Whenever I have a headache, Peter Gabriel's voice makes me feel better, no joke. His voice is just so soothing and unique. Truely one of a kind!
Quelle voix ! Quelle émotion ! Immense PETER

A classic, no one is quite like it.
