    Great review. Just picked one of these up myself and couldn't be happier with the build quality and the fact that it is a not so obvious watch.

    Have my eye on the blue/black kinda purple looking model.
    Seems the perfect combination of dress and tool watch and just that little bit fun.
    And that date window. The fact that it pisses so many people off make me love the watch even more! (Jody) 😉
    This has definitely gone to the top of my wish list!
    Thanks for the review mate 👍

    lovely looking watch, kind of different to the rest.. others have slated the placement of the date window, but I think it's nice where and how it is

      Clive, thanks for the kind words - Im really having fun with this so planning to continue - hopefully even get better. Good luck with getting the Heritage Diver - its a brilliant watch and amazing value (like pretty much all the alpina's imo).

    This one really caught my eye when I saw it at my local Macy's. Looks fantastic in person as well as in the pics I've seen online. I totally agree with you about the unfortunate position of the date window. I would have greatly preferred either no date or the date at 3 or 6. Also of note, the watch I tried on at Macy's had a strap with a more textured rubber feeling material rather than leather. I thought it looked very appropriate for the watch, and I actually prefer it to the leather. I am trying to resist the pull to buy this one since I have a couple of other nice pieces, but I suspect I will really regret it once it finally becomes discontinued.

      Since even one watch hardly makes sence in 2019, why should owning several watches be a problem? ;-)

    • @nitetrekker
      @nitetrekker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PeteMcConvill Well it might be a little more correct to say that owning even one mechanical watch hardly makes sense in 2019. But for me, owning at least one watch does make sense because I hate pulling my phone out of my pocket to get the time. It's quite convenient to have a watch. But one thing I do notice is how many people are dumping their traditional watches for the smart watch. The mechanical watch appears to be in trouble again as it was when the quartz watches started getting popular decades ago.

      @PeteMcConvill  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nitetrekker I was being a bit blase, I think your right, a readily available timepiece is valuable. I'm less sure on the long term impact of smart watches on the mechanical market. I do think they will spell the end of basic quartz though.

    Very nice design watch. Yes would prefer no date window or it placed at 6 o clock.

    Great review Clive! You gave great comparisons of watches in the Alina's class. I own the watch and love it. It is very high quality and elegant indeed. Agreed, I think the date function is over rated on may sport/tool watches. Well done video!

    Great to see you really love and enjoy this watch mate, that it does for you is all that matters. I looked at this very watch in the flesh t'other day, but prefer the 2018 Tissot Seastar 1000 on spec and price. This is where the law of diminishing returns often comes into play - let's put aside your assumed love for Alpina for a moment and just look at the cold stats. The current Seastar 1000 - Powermatic 80 movement, giving 80 hours power reserve vs Seastrong's 38 hours using AL-525/Sellita. Seastar & Seastrong share - Screw Down Crown, 300m WR and Sapphire Crystal. The Seastar sports a Uni-Directional Ceramic Bezel vs Seastrong's Internal Bezel - Seastar has Exhibition Case Back and finishing on Rotor Arm and back of movement bridge vs Seastrong's solid embossed Case Back. Seastar 23 Jewels vs Seastrong's 26 Jewels ... Price point in AUD at RRP - Seastar 1000 - $1,025 vs Seastrong - $2,550 ... These prices can be beaten by shopping around certainly but for me - based on the stats vs price point, the Tissot is a winner every time. Now there are other factors, style, taste ... matters of the heart to consider also. I love my Seastar just as you love your Seastrong. I would strongly recommend you have another look at the 2018 Seastar 1000 sometime ... it's a cracking watch.

      P.S - Important note, Omega share the same movement as Tissot, in the ETA 2824. The price point is about clarifying price structures. Swatch cannot have their House Brands competing with one another, so a tier system must be enforced regardless of the similar quality on offer between very closely positioned Brand Houses. This is exactly what has happened with Longines and Tissot - the highest quality Tissot Automatic on offer punches easily in the same class as Longines. It is only because Swatch MUST price tier their asset groups that Tissot is placed in the position it has been. Don't let this fool anybody - you're getting high quality Swiss made time pieces in Tissot Automatic - the marketing is a necessity but not the whole truth. You need to put them on the wrist and walk the walk - assessment by distance won't do - nor do them justice. Sorry to bang on, this is a pet peeve I have about marketing vs real world quality and value.

      @@thevelointhevale1132I love how manipulative this was and how you left out details by hiding it behind a wall of text. Also sorry to say but watches aren't spec sheets. Nobody buys the sea star for a reason. The alpina is literally a LLD for 3-4x cheaper

    Where did you get that nato? Normally don't like natos but looks amazing on this watch. Also curved spring bars? Any other strap recommendations?

    • @PeteMcConvill
      @PeteMcConvill  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry, honestly cant remember where I got the strap. I find curved springbars are often the best fit, especially for natos - I use something like this www.strapcode.com/products/tool-nt-sbp-011ld (not this one, but something very like it)

      @@PeteMcConvillthank you. Also have you considered the 22mm strapcode shark mesh (the one without the spring bar cover)? I think it would look amazing on this watch and better than a regular mesh. I'm considering buying it and think the polished one probably makes more sense with this watch right? Should be able to squeeze the 22mm in.

      Not that I know of any more. I got mine through 8th avenue and they've gone bust. If you're happy to order online I'd point you to gnomon out of singapore I think. Decent prices, I'm pretty sure they're an actual AD, not grey market, and in my experience very reliable.

      Hey Samir - covering quite a price range between the Alpina and either rolex or omega - though I can understand it. Look Id never try and pretend the quality of the Alpina will match either of those two since they cost 3-5 times the price BUT in my experience the quality of the Alpina is exceptional for the price and having bought mine I couldnt justify to myself the price of going up to either of those - all I can suggest is takr your time and and list what you are really, truly deep down after, try each and see if it scratches your itch then buy. The good news is none of these wqatches are rare - there's no need to hurry.

    Day windows in an odd spot is a sign to poor design in my opinion... not acceptable for a €1000 watch!
