    My mom was a stewardess on TWA - DC3 from Kansas City to New York. Had to quit once she got married. Loved the airline and it's people. No one today can match TWA. Thanks for the memories . . .

    EXCELLENT video! Never got to fly them but came within inches of working for them at EWR (was interviewed and tested before AA acquisition and never heard from anyone lol. Oh well). I appreciate everyone who takes the time to use their talents to memorialize commercial aviation. Always close to my heart!

    My dad is a furloughed TWA pilot. He too has moved on (JetBlue A320 F/O, recalled to AA but deferred it to wait until this economy improves), but TWA holds a special place in all of us. Best of luck to you.

    Awesome!
    My Grandfather worked for TWA for over 40 years, the last 25 years as the GM in Indianapolis. My Mother as well as one of my aunts worked as TWA flight attendants before they were married....on Connie's. TWA was 'the' only airline in our family. As a child I remember being one of the first to board both the 747 and L1011 when they made their first appearances in Indianapolis thanks to my Grandfather. It was like a piece of me being ripped out when TWA was acquired by American.

    My father was chief of flight operations for many years. I miss what TWA did for my father . Carl Icahn was a monster, he destroyed one of the worlds finest airlines. Not to mention all the wonderful people whom invested their lives in TWA. God Bless

    It sure was hard work in that building. Re-stocking the carts with thousands of soda cans was indeed a pain, but... I sure earned my stripes. I mostly did "quick-turns" out on the ramp by prepping the jet's cockpits and cabins for their outbound flights. Being in and around those huge red and white birds, made my job pleasurable and memorable.

    TWA was one of the best airlines there ever was! As far as TWA 800 is concerned, accidents happen despite the best of intentions. The FAA/NTSB is the one that inspects and issues airworthiness certificates for each and every airliner in the sky. TWA's takeover by AA was the death knell for comfort and great customer service that used to be standard at ALL airlines. Now, we have Southworst et. al. where you're packed in like sardines & treated like cow manure.

    @nenblom American Airlines bought TWA in 2001, when they flew its ceremonial last flight - Flight 220 - from St. Louis to Las Vegas on December 1. It was also when all TWA routes had officially become that of AA's.

    There is a little tribute in FS2004 for TWA: there is an airline called "World Travel Airlines" which means WTA, if you change the order is TWA, something like "Travel World Airlines". The white fuselage an red stripes are very similar.

    Airline deregulation in the late 1970's. This spurred the demise on not only TWA but also Pan Am, National Airlines, Eastern Airlines, Braniff, Piedmont. I'm sure I missed others. It's truly sad. I flew on all these airlines as a kid.

  • @ColinYapp
    @ColinYapp 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    After TWA's demise and the awful way their staff was treated by AA I have only boarded AA once since. I had no other choice at the time. TWA was a fantastic airline and even during the rough times they really tried to keep it together and they were always professional. I did notice after ICAHN got into the picture everything started to unravel fast and once he was gone they really tried but at that point the damage was too great. It was really sad for me to see them go.

    @betelorg (PT-1) The Lockheed Constellation is born in 1939, pre WW2 with Howard Hughes requesting a 40 passenger pressurized cabin airliner from Lockheed for transcontinental flights (3,500m / 5,630km) her speed was 340mph/483km per hour. The intricate design was taken by Lockheed but Mr.Hughes was involved every inch of the way in the projects development! As the USA enter WW2 many were commission to the war effort before later being retrofitted into civilian commercial aviation!

    This is a beautifully put together video with THE perfect choice of track by Arrow Smith. I guess a lot of it is simulation, I don't know? Is that really a StrataCruiser with the 3 fins? All airlines are struggling at present except for Air Lingus, who have loads of money. However, having flown with them once it was a frightful experience, particularly when the cost of flying was about 3 times the quoted seat price. I hope to never repeat it!

  • @dylanhardman

    Ok, I'm NOT a flight-sim fan....BUT, this video was BEYOND Bitchin'!!! I hate to admit it, but watching this made me emotional. The line-up at the end with all the planes and liveries gave me chills. And the 747 in the last colors coming to a stop and turning off the lights was very fitting. I want to personally say THANK YOU!

    @betelorg Pan Am was using the Boeing B. 377 Stratocruiser, until the Douglas DC-6B came out, then they upgraded to the Douglas DC-7C Seven Seas. I believe Eastern was another customer of the Super Constellation. The Constellation was developed as the XB-30 for bombing Japan. When, Lockheed lost the bid to Boeing, the design was converted from bomber to transport, where it proved to be superior to the Douglas C-54. The originial name of the Connie was the C-69.

  • @TWTR4EVER
    @TWTR4EVER 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @betelorg The aircraft with the three tail rotters was the Lockheed Constellation, Super Connie as it was called, it was developed together between TWA top brass Jack Frye, Paul Richter, Walt Hamilton and the one and only Howard Hughes together with Lockheed to give PAn Am a run for their money and to prepare TWA post WW2 for its big international expansion. Still for my generation (1970's) if you aim to break into the industry TWA was the airline you aim to be your employer!

    No, some was sold to United Airlines, and some went to Delta. The rest went away in a bankruptcy court.

    "How was it to fly for TWA?" The word 'privilege' comes to mind. An honor as well. I had a 'balanced' career with TWA. Ten years as a Flight Engineer, thirteen as a co-pilot and finally, ten years as captain. Best wishes to you in your quest to become an airline pilot.

    @betelorg (PT-3) The DC-4 that evolved into the DC-6 & DC-7 would be her competitor, never as glamorous nor revered as The Constellation. The record belongs to TWA when in 9/29/57 she flew London to San Francisco in 23hrs & 19min TWA & Trans*Brasil Ailines, two airlines that I'm proud to have call home! TW/Howard Hughes & TR/Dr. Omar Fontana even some generations apart, both pioneers in the aviation of their respective countries!

    @betelorg (PT-2) TWA's specifications regarding cabin layouts and passenger comfort were unmatched in 2/6/46 when the first TWA Constellation open the new New York to Paris route that Juan Tripp/ Pan Am together with his bought and paid for politicians managed to keep as a monopoly for years! Pan Am will get their Constellations on 6/17/47 were as a marketing strategy were put into Pan Am flight #1, (around the world route) flight they operated for nearly 40 years!

    Thanks for the info TWTR4EVER, very interesting backgund. I'm interested in yr comment - about the Super Constellation,- "developed by Lockheed to give PAn Am a run for their money." What planes were Pan Am using? Were Lockheed blocked from selling them to Pan Am?
    I heard they leaked oil all over the runways,- the RAF laid on special sand boxes to be placed under their engines when they very occasionally stopped at an RAF base.

    i meant, AA should have kept more of TWA's planes, such as the 717, which could have replaced their Fokker-100's which they retired in 2004. And yes, I am a flyer of American Airlines, as can be seen by my username, which is the license number of one of their 777's.
