The operator is smooth but I get the feeling digging over the drive motors like that is frowned upon.
doesnt matter so much in easy digging

Turn the track gear around and dig over the idlers like your supposed to, fit a quick hitch and use a wide bucket to load sand, so much quicker and less fuel burn.
