I've only had the top permed and I've had the sides shaved down to a number one.
You were supposed to spread the hair more evenly across the rod, you basically have more of a wave than a curl, still very badass this suits him well, I have a Japanese American client that wants a perm because his hair is so straight aswell

This is not permanent curly hair!! Eventually and obviously, when you take a shower, it's gonna be flat and straight and then you have to take all of these steps again to get it curly. Also the new hairs that will be growing won't be curly!
