I could go on and on about Phillip Seymour Hoffman in this scene. That he was able to include so much detail in a two-minute scene is amazing. Some of my favorite all-time comic acting.
I honestly think PSH forgot his next line because the repetition isn’t in the script so he just repeated it but the coens kept it in because it makes it seem like Brandt has this speech memorised as he’s done it with all of Lebowskis guests hahaha
This movie has some of (if not the best) small talk in any movie. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like a movie. It just feels like two people are talking and someone’s filming them.
PSH steals this scene. He was the best. The uncomfortable ticks, repeating himself, tugging at his tie. I don’t think anyone could have done it better.
Hoffman could play anything, he was so damn memorable in this movie I wouldn't ever be able to even begin imagine playing a character that straight next to bridges killing every scene
U due respect.... he could not play james bond, rocky or rambo or any action hero so to say play anything is not true.... he however could play a psychopath villain

Intentionally? It sounds like he forgot the line or perhaps that was an unedited gaffe. He raises his hand when he repeats the words, which seems like he was subconsciously trying to focus.
