I met Jeremy at the Cyprus Jazz Workshop 2019 and he became my favorite pianist and musician and I honestly feel blessed for meeting him....and then my favorite TH-camr makes a video with my favorite musician.......🥰🥰
Aw! This is just like the old Piano Jazz show! Have been a huge fan of Jeremy's ever since he won the Nottingham 2012 Piano Competition here in England, and Nancy Harms's as well, whose albums also really really worth checking out.
That song, "Kneel" is just wonderful. Beautiful & mystical poetic words "...hear the bugle-colored twilight blowing" - that kind of line carries so much: just a few words convey air, color, sound, light, notes of a horn, the dusk, the wind: WOW. Beautiful singing Aimee, and now I'm going to find out more about this great pianist & songwriter, thanks to you.

I have never heard of Mr. Siskind. I have never heard of that cool concept, House Concerts. Now I have to find those "Perpetual Motion Etudes." Thank you both for expanding my tiny universe.
We have jazz house concerts here in Portland, Oregon. They usually have the best local jazz artists and they are my favorite way to listen to live music because of the intimacy of watching jazz artists play in a person's home. Also, it's a great chance to talk and ask questions of the musicians in person, as well as meeting other people in the community interested in jazz. They are so much fun to go to and often have potlucks there too!
Nicely done interview and performance, Aimee! Enjoyed hearing about Jeremy’s background as well. Interesting and talented guy who is excited about what he does! “Kneel” is a beautiful song and the performance by both of you was great! Time well spent watching!
Love Jeremy and his thoughts.... I only have been opened to jazz recently because of My teacher Aimee, she has opened so many possibilities outside of the box I live in... just love Jeremys thoughts about controlling your thought and getting into the moment.... Love all the talent in this video and two thumbs up to the camera man, he captured so many awesome shots!!!! X
Oh man. I remember the video where you interviewed and played with a classical pianist. The understanding you both demonstrate here is awesome. Two pros just stretching out
This is the kind of videos I like the most on your channel, thank you so much for posting this interview! I loved every second of it, especially your improvisations and Jeremy's passionate talk about home concerts
Thanks for a great show Aimee and Jeremy! I really enjoyed the musicianship and conversation between the two piano and voice. Jeremy, what a wonderful song; I will definitely be studying some of those LH voicings! Thanks for inspiring and looking forward to hearing more McPartland style shows from you Aimee. Off to play through My Romance and Billie's Bounce now after hearing you two :)
Wow--what a treat! Already a devoted Aimee fan for a year now (with deep thanks for her guidance on my own jazz piano journey), and a brand new Jeremy Siskind fan as of one week ago (via his Hank Jones "The Very Thought of You" transcription)--which then led me to this amazing session--has everything--cool insight, musicianship, vocals, poetry--and pure swinging! (Is the Perpetual Motion etude actually a 4-hand piece done with trick photography!?) Thank you both!
Thanks for this Ms. Nolte. Really inspiring stuff. Mr Siskind reminds me of Richard Rodney Bennett, at least in his all-encompassing aesthetic if not his style. I look forward to checking out more of his work. Yep, I'm a convert! :D
Thanks, Amy, for your collaboration with Jeremy reminiscent of Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz radio broadcast for so many years. Please keep sharing such amazing content so we can keep learning and hopefully paying it forward in our musical lives!
Wow!. You can see the circular motion that gives his wrists the fluidity. Great shot! Aind of course, he highligts the distance between his fingers, brain and voice...
Thank you! Yeah, wrist rotation is key to healthy piano playing. Although, as I was watching, I couldn't help but notice my pinky technique needs work...
This was so enjoyable to listen to both of you. I heard Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Bud Powell , Lennie Tristano... The etude reminds me of music of Amilton Godoy, pianist of the Zimbo Trio and Fabio Torres of Trio Corrente both from São Paulo, Brazil.... Fred Hersch is an amazing pianist ... uauuuuhh
I had never heard of Jeremy before, but wow what an amazing talent. Beautiful writing and playing. After watching him play I'm questioning whether I should even continue to play the piano - lol.
Finishing to watch here .. so awesome ! Maybe some songs as a unique video after, the interview with two songs, would be great. Here in Brazil we have Nelson Faria with a great serie, he does interviews, the musician who is interviewed has a video teaching something, some music videos separated from the interview .. it's great! -> th-cam.com/users/umcafelaemcasa And maybe as a podcast too .. :)
This was lovely, thank you. Umm, you realise that on Billie's Bounce, by the time you got to the closing head it was about half the speed (ok I exaggerate) of the opening speed. I thought I was the only one who does that! On the homewarming AND the voice-in-the-head, when I'm playing by myself I sometimes feel I'm doing something interesting and to me beautiful, then suddenly a voice tells me: hey, you're not swinging! So then I try to swing but it kind of ruins what I was doing. I'm not sure whether I should listen to myself or tell myself to go ____ myself.
@@AimeeNolte In other semi-improvised genres as well. But I can't imagine professional classical musicians doing it, other than the intended tempo variations of that genre. (But I may be naïve). Do you know any recorded jazz examples off hand?
Madame Nolte, first of all those eye catching fonts shine great-cool; congrats to its designer. And this video was a charm... Jeremy Siskind seems exactly like how an extremely talented (jazz piano) musician would seem; his ten finger independent etude example was also quite stretching (even to listen!). His chat was also interesting. And without doubt your performance during singing and playing was top nocth as always Madame Nolte... PS: may you pay just a very little more attention to mics (already perfect), you will avoid all those little murphy annoyences (as said in another comment) happening from time to time...
Is this the same piano store where Adam Chester works? I think he is in Santa Monica too. He's the one I told you works for Elton John as well. Would love for you to interview him too! Great video interview Marian McPartland junior lol
Aimee, your voice and playing sound amazing. Just recently got to know Jeremy's work and I'm blown away by his talent. On a different note, any chance you and Jacob C might record something together sometime?
@@AimeeNolte Hi Aimee - yeah I'm aware of those - the post-show thing you did with him and the iHarmU thing. I meant a studio recording, maybe with a band? He could feature you scatting on Djesse 4 :) 💯💯💯
Did any one else notice that Jeremy Siskind's scat singing while soloing was like all vocal fry? I legit thought it was kinda a little weird. But, probably a good reson for it, I just don't get.
Marion WISHES she could sing like THAT! You turned that trumpet into a sax with that sweet air... ooooooooooooooooohhh mannnnnnnnnn! Really pretty Mr. Siskind, REALLY pretty...as a prayer should be.
Being a musician for 50+ years I feel compelled to make this observation. Not taking anything away from his tremendous talent, I find Mr. Siskind's monotoned scatting during his solos extremely distracting. This may be an anomaly that he is unaware of, or not. I don't know. But it certainly takes the focus away from his exquisite technique.
Usually, he would not have a microphone on his mouth when he plays, so people in the audience would never really hear it. I wanted to turn the microphone off during his playing, but it turned out that the microphone I was using on his piano was failing, or at least very weak so I needed his vocal mic to be on to pick up his piano sound. I don’t mind his singing at all. I’ve never minded when Kieth Jarrett does it or Oscar Peterson, but everyone is different.
Aimee Nolte Music I went to a jazz piano concert where the pianist did the same thing during his improvs. When asked during a Q and A session why he does it. He said it is "collateral damage." I was trying to figure out if he means that it's a habit that is hard to get rid of once you've been doing it for a long time?
What a masterpiece of composition Jeremy, and performance by both of you. . . Thankyou both
Wow. That first song reminds me that music is still alive. Suskind’s harmony is so fresh and new for me and Aimee’s voice is gorgeous.
