  • I haven't covered how to draw bangs on a whimsical face yet in this series, so today's the day! Scandinavian is my best guess at her ethnicity for now, but most importantly- she is giving us a reason to add a bangs drawing to our international mix of beauties. Grab a sheet of card stock or a paper you love using for copic marker art, a pencil, & let's sketch in our face drawing guidelines!

    If you don't have copic markers for this project, don't worry! Any alcohol markers will do. I find that starting with your lightest skin tone markers work best for shading Caucasian women. It's also the least intimidating if you're just getting started with drawing /shading faces or copic marker blending.
    Whenever I'm drawing hairstyles on my girls, I always do one section of hair at a time. If you're not sure how to draw front bangs, or are nervous about shading hair with copics, just watch me!
    I hope you have as much fun doing this GORGEOUS blonde girl with bangs drawing as I did!!

    She is so lovely. For a long time I didn’t know what bangs were. Now I know. In the U.K. we call it a fringe.
    Will have to try this. I’m not good at markers.

      Ah, I like that name for it too! Totally think fringe tells you more about what the hair is doing as well.

    I really enjoy your channel and I’ve been drawing for years… It is truly my passion. Over the last few years I have significant vision loss. So needless to say, drawing is really difficult especially with proportions and symmetry. I tried out this little trick where I draw the irises before the eye shapes, And it has really helped a lot! Very far out of my comfort zone but it was really cool to do something different and see great results! Love your videos Karen :-)

    Beautiful model. Makes me get the idea of picking up a magazine about hair styles for art references. I like the way you teach makes it seem easier than it looks

      Wow I am not sure what happened, but at the time around 12:50 or so you said you were done, and the video seemed to stop, she was colored in and everything but the video said it was over 40 minutes long. So I tried to scroll forward, and it showed you still sketching. I was wondering if you did more than one image. But it was sketching the same thing I already watched.
      Did I go into a time warp or wormhole? I didn't look at the time when starting the video so I'm not sure if I watched for 40 minutes even though the video said it was done before 13 minutes passed ummm......
      yeah this is a weird year

    If you cover half her face down the middle and just look at the right side (facing us) of her face, and let your mind fill in the rest. And then do the same thing covering the right side and seeing the left (our left) you see two different people. Face shape is different, right side face is slimmer and left side is more filled out. Both beautiful though. I took an art class in Jr high where we found magazine images of faces straight on like this, cut them down the center and glued one side to paper. We filled in the other side based on the colored image we had to complete the face. They didn't look like the original person. So I learned faces are not symmetrical. Just for fun on my own I took the unused half image and made a 2nd drawing. Neither face looked like the person.

    • @KarenCampbellDRAWS
      @KarenCampbellDRAWS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Faces definitely aren't symmetrical, but that's the beauty of it. Very cool drawing exercise! Thanks for watching!

What type paper did you use for this project? Thanks for your wonderful demo. You are so talented and generous to share your gift.

Maybe make a board on Pinterest for reference photos? I find that I understand the videos so much more while I am looking at the actual photo. I do want to thank you for all the wonderful videos as I have been doing ones in your Awesome Art School and youtube videos. My work has improved greatly thanks to all your fantastic examples. Are you drawing your squished ovals on top of the Guidelines? Maybe just make them smaller, and closer together! Then when you go to fine tune them, they’ll be better proportioned! You can also try to remember and take a step back and look at then BEFORE you fine tune them. Then you can just erase and adjust accordingly so you don’t have any surprises at the end!
