Learning to fly in circles - RC heli flight school v1.1

- This RC Heli video describes how to learn to fly in circles in every orientation. Forward left and right, Backward and inverted left and right. In the bonus and stretch sections you will get a brief introduction to tic-tocs, rainbows, forward and backward loops and stationary pirouettes. For a complete guide visit chadrg.com
Learning to fly an RC helicopter can be difficult and using a simulator like Phoenix is the best approach. If you are starting with a blade 400 from e-flite or a larger T-Rex helicopter from align a simulator will give you confidence when you go to the field. Follow along and when you have mastered this step move on to the next video in the series. www.chadrg.com
You have the best rc lessons on TH-cam. Very encouraging as well! Thank you!
Good video. I just learned this. If you get frustrated keep trying, I agree. But If you keep crashing doing something new I always try to simply it first. For this it helped me to do chase view (the camera follows the heli) in Real Flight and learn turns and sharp turns first maintaining altitude. If you don't have chase view, master turns first and go from steady hover, to forward, draw an arc keeping altitude and hover again helped. They keep the arc longer and longer until it becomes a circle.
@kickbackkid1
Basically once you get into FFF you keep the heli in the turn with the elevator and adjust the height using the aileron and speed with collective. It ends up being a balancing act between all of those controls that keep the heli at a constant speed and height. With practice it will come to you. First you will be able to groove it into a turn and hold it and then you will be able to adjust it. It takes some time to learn.
Good luck! I'm glad you liked the video.
You are a great pilot, very controlled moves with the Heli. I aspire to get to your level some day!
@ScOpEx80 I think he's using rate mode not heading hold on the gyro. If you notice he is not touching the rudder much at all during the turn. In rate mode the wind automatically makes the tail point in the right direction. Doing those circles like that in heading hold takes a lot more practice since you always have to keep adding rudder to make sure the tail is always behind you.
Thank you ZFloop, you are an inspiration, one day I hope to be as good as you.
@mYfLASK
Thanks! I'm glad you like the videos.
I enjoy your videos but could you be more descriptive about what you're actually doing to make these moves.? I know you have stick view enabled but it isn't easy looking at the sticks and seeing what the heli is doing at the same time! And quite often stick inputs are so subtle flying helis that it can be difficult to make out on the stick cam. It would be nice if you could describe what you're doing with the sticks as you fly. Sorry, I don't mean to sound too critical! Keep up the good work.

The guide is a list of what to do for the flight school with a description of what to practice in text. Visit my site chadrg.com and you will see it under heli flight school
Dude. Hope you have mastered by now. If not, here's a tip. You have to "porpoise" it. You know like a dolfin swimming up/down. Remember this is not an airplane where you point/relax. With heli you must always move cyclic up/down. Fingers area always moving/jabbing...etc. Even when it "looks smooth" it is always correction going on. Maybe slightly less with FBL...but that's rcheli. enjoy.
Key to backwards? Get used to "spreading" or "pinching" the sticks. Drop your simulator physics to low % and have fun!!!
Very interesting point. However, I think you are wrong. It's definitely head holding. I just double checked on my simulator. You are right in that you must "keep adding rudder". I observed that I was "pulsing" the rudder to keep it constant when going fwd or backwards. I think anybody who's beyond novice does this without even thinking. I further noticed during sideways flying(nose down, or tail up) circles in this situation the rudder is "locked".
Nice video. Except you forgot to include 4 more orientations. Sideways and "other sideways". This corresponds with tail down or nose down. Maybe you have this in another video "funnels". In addition, 2 more while inverted. Total of 4 more orientations. Most newbies "believe" that funnel turns are a whole separate maneuver. However, funnel turns are really "just' sideways flying. Presented this way it's less intimidating, but totally necessary as an "orientation' that should be learned.
omg this is so frustrating lol you make it look sooooo easy.
Great stuff first time I've seen your vids.I have a blade 450 3d just about to sell and get out of the hobby, but I think I'm gonna get the phonix sim and keep going had real flight wasn't happy with. Any great stuff thanks.
Actually, both are correct.
well done flight tutorial, you know how it goes ! Do you think it's possible to learn this as a Mode 1 flyer ? It looks quite easier to have alevator and ailerons together on the right stick. once is shure, I have to practice a lot .....

thanks man
backwards and inverted flight is almost impossible for me
@stoichiometric very frustrating i can now do forward flight, loops, rolls, hold an inverted hover but still can not fly backwards or inverted. but its all because i do not practice that much
Zfloop. this is aweosme. Could you please tell me, how do keep constant altitude forward flight?
When I try forward flight, me heli looses altitude as it gains speed and then gains altitude when I make the turns, what is the mistake I am making? Do you push and hold the cyclic stick for forward flight or do you just move the by giving little pulses ?
Thanks in advance...
@360kal right on dude! Yo you have pheonix right?
@stoichiometric i have aerofly pro deluxe
Man! your circles are so round!
@ zfloop what is the basic rc heli specification to do the moves displayed in the playlist. just got a Syma F1 Armor New Model - 3.5CH Single-Blade 2.4G RC Helicopter. can this model do the moves? thanks bro
Didnt explain how to do the circle
hi, I got the 5.5 version from ebay, but I dont have the serial #s. do you have them, could I get them? thank you. Gary
@360kal How is it now? ( 5 months later)
What Sim software are you using? I really need to get a commercial flight sim, the free versions "crash" a lot on Windows 7 and 8...
Hey man you still giving flying lessons?
Hi - do you recommend doing all learing in idle up?
Are you in idle up mode when doing this?
is that phonix rc simulater is it a good sim
04:34, I think you meant a lot of cyclic and less collective
Nah, lots of cyclic, not as much pitch is right. Collective really just describing the type of mechanism for adding altitude on these helicopters.
oops my bad. that's what he said lol.
where can you download models for FMS
Why does everybody call it Sick Lick!?
PSY CLIC!
cool [iminent=U9Mto8YVffOB]
Negative.
