  • A straight no BS test of Buckin's Ramhorn pipe design. I'll make 2 timed cuts with tge Ramhorn and then 2 with tbe stock muffler. Same bar, same chain and same wood.
    Thanks for watching

I 100% agree with you. Stock muffalator is horrendous. Throttle response is the same, horrific. I installed a dual trumpet pipe on my 572. LOUD AS A TOP FUEL DRAGSTER. EBAY for $175. Like night and day. Quick to rev, increased the tourqe. My biggest gripe with the stock muffalator is , overheating the saw. Detonation soon to follow. Keep up your real life videos, no BS , Stay healthy, stay strong.

I like the ramhorn pipe. A support bracket that bolts to the factory case locations would be a nice improvement, as vibration and just plain getting wacked while cutting with the saw will likely cause a problem. The 572xp wants to be ported ;) Absolutely wear hearing protection. Eating foods your body does not agree with can cause Tinnitus as well, that was my problem.

100% agree, wear your hearing protection, all the time.
Actually, just wear your PPE full stop.
From my experence, when you ask your partner to repeat herself for the 3rd or 4th time for the 2nd or 3rd sentence in a row, she is likely to get a bit annoyed.
It sucks when you can't understand your kids properly too.
Note, I'm not 50 yet and have worn hearing protection way more often than not.
All in all my hearing is still pretty good, i can still listen to music, i can still pick different engine noises, i can still identify where sounds have come from, i can still understand people on the phone. I only have the tiniest amount of Tinitus, i barely ever even notice it is there.
I have just managed to damage the wrong bits of the wrong frequencies so i miss the lead in to some consanents when people speak in person and i can't see thier mouths.
Learn from my mistakes, it really sucks.

I believe any modded muffler is superior to factory restrictions.
That being said, the husky "potato" muffler is really bad. Not only is it choked and baffled, it's also a heat-sink.
And don't give Husky a pass on the design. Stihl abides by the same rules, and their muffler design is far superior.
The ramshorn has a massive "cool" factor for sure. And I have no doubt that any saw will run faster and at a lower temperature (exceedingly important for strato cylinders) with one.
I do worry about exhaust side lubrication though. Is it enough to cause any issues? I don't know, and sincerely doubt it. Maybe 20 more tanks of fuel in longevity.... maybe 100.
There is such a thing as to much flow on a 2 stroke. Gains on top, often sacrifice the bottom and vice versa.
Heck, I remember in the days of 2 stroke mx, you could actually adjust the powerband with different lengths of pipe and expansion chamber locations. A forgotten art of tuning the exhaust with theories from sound waves, back pressure chatter, charge impacts, and all sorts of intricate considerations. What was the general rule... something like "muffler opening no larger than 60% of the exhaust port?"
Obviously there's a LOT more involved than just muffler mods. And for a ported saw buried in softwoods, where high rpm power is key... Definitely. But the average firewood guy? Or east coast production logging? I honestly think a fully modified factory muffler is key. Just look at the "bark box". Some guys absolutely love it and praise the gains achieved... While others think it's a gimmick that completely kills the size of the powerband. It comes down to where you need the power consistently. Like the 365s vs the 371xp.
    To each their own needs.

Think how much more wood you can cut over the life of that saw with that pipe vs stock. Not to mention it will probably last longer before topend service time because of the fact that you’re getting the heat out of the cylinder better.
Win win win except for a little more super cool sounding noise. Muffle your ears, not your poor saws gentlemen.
Usually power adders add stress to the engine components but in the case of free flowing exhaust I’m not so sure about that aspect. I call improving the flow of an engine “free horsepower” because in a way you are obtaining that extra power from relieving stressors from the engine. Always love your testing. It’s plenty scientific enough for me.
    Oh, how about fuel economy?
Obviously more wood cut per tank because of the time difference but actual run time might be improved too. I don’t want to see you choke down that poor saw for a full tank of fuel though. It deserves better. Toss Mr potato head in the scrap heap or give it to someone who wants to try modifying it.
    Thanks Tinman
