    Great video! Thank you. However I was wanting to know what he's done to the S54 engine that got him to 300Whp. I have the same car and I want to get that hp Naturally Aspirated as well. I heard you say he has the headers and the intake but that was it (I assume a tune as well obviously). But I haven't heard that those three mods would be able to bring the car to a 300Whp point. Please let us know if possible. Thank you.

    • @Napa1539
      @Napa1539 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The car stock dyno‘d at 285whp on dynojet. Someone dyno’d their car with the same headers as me before and after and got 16hp without a tune. I currently have a tune and intake so I’m guessing I’m north of 300whp if I’m being somewhat fair.

    • @friguy4444
      @friguy4444 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Napa1539 I thought about it after I commented too and so I looked up some others with similar mods and I'm now understanding it's not too far off to get what you're getting if the cats are gone and the tune is on etc. Thanks for the content and answer.

    • @gt1r

      Late response but I made 322whp with euro headers, a tune, and a silicon intake boot. $750 for ~50whp on an NA engine as high strung as this one isn’t bad, plus it sounds a lot better with the euro headers.

    You hit the nail on the head. Both are similar on paper but chassis Dynamics is what sets them apart. S2000 has more turn in oversteer and is harder to catch as it spins faster and can't hold as much angle before it spins. The result is the E46 is an easier car to drive as it's much more progressive and the S2000 feels more knife edge. A lot of this has to do w suspension design and weight distribution.
    Which one to get? Depends on what you enjoy, and how much money you have. I love both, but the S2000 is a lot cheaper to run.

    • @Rockit181
      @Rockit181 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Having owned both, agree. One of the few channels with a good enough driver for me to be able to rely on their opinion. E46 and BMWs in general are very easy to control in a slide. Def would pick the S2000 as a primarily track car for light weight and running costs, ease to work on, reliability. For daily use.... E46 is a much more refined commuter....budget for some maintenance though.

    I owned an s2000 and want to move on to an e46 M3 eventually; What's the steering like on both? I heard that the stock M3 has reasonable amount of feedback but with a slow rack, s2000 seems to be the opposite, very quick and direct but not much feedback. Been wanting to see a comparison on these two for so long. Great content!!!

    • @Napa1539
      @Napa1539 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      tomato bbk it’s definitely slower on stock rack and maybe not as much communication through steering wheel. A common mod we do is a Z3 steering rack (completely bolt-on) and shortens it quite a bit and has really good feedback. That will be one of my next mods.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I definitely prefer the AP1 steering ratio (quicker than AP2) to M3 for track use but the M3 steering is still very good. Slower but that also makes it easier to dial in small inputs. It's personal preference

    @Zygrene have you had a chance to run a C5 Z06 on track yet? I'm interested to hear your opinion of this car because they seem like a very affordable track toy. The brake pads, rotors, and tires are considerably cheaper than a Porsche or newer Corvette, but you still have a balanced chassis, low weight, low CG and a fantastic engine that is very reliable. I've been thinking about picking one up because they are such good performance bargains with low running costs and the price point I won't feel terrible beating the shit out of it.

    Nice vid. Really digg the CAE shifter. If you haven't already, may I suggest you look at getting yourself a set of stiffer front and back rollbars (Try UUC swaybarbarians) as well as a set of coilovers, (either KW 3 or Bilstein Pss10). These two additions to your setup will help you dial out that mid corner understeer you're getting in the high speed corners and also help keep the opposite lock you're getting in the low speed corners under control. I track my e46 M3 regularly on a similar track to this and was able to dial out the same problems with the above mentioned. Would be cool to see a comparison video if you ever do the upgrades. Drive safe brotha!

  • @r129r16pfl
    @r129r16pfl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thumbs up!
    3200lbs is to heavy, there is still a lot of things you can throw out, ~29xx lbs is easily achievable! M3 was built like a luxury car =massive weight reduction gains.
    That's why I like e36m3 more, because it's a much lighter car, and smaller in all dimensions, with less frontal area / similar aero drag coefficient.

    • @Napa1539
      @Napa1539 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kr Dz I would disagree that 2900 is easily achievable. Maybe if you threw out the essentials (airbags, ac, radio), but this car is still driven on the street regularly. Without that, I’d have to start putting a lot of money for weight savings (cf trunk, cf door cards, etc). Cf trunk saves about 30lbs for $800 + paint. For me, that’s not worth it. Definitely agree with you, E36 is a lighter a car and would do better on this track, but on any other big tracks (Laguna Seca, Sonoma, buttonwillow, etc), this car does much much better and the lap times show.

  • @friguy4444
    @friguy4444 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If it were an option you should get an E46 M3 but keep the S2000 as the Honda is a bit rarer and has attributes the BMW doesn't. But hey if we're wishing we should all have at least one of each of our favorite cars LOL.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you can afford the ownership costs, I think you should have both the S2000 and an E46 M3. Both are good in different ways. You might miss the lightweight-chuckability that you get from the S2000 but at the same time, you'll also want to experience the smoothness/inheritantly balanced feeling that straight 6 engines are known for in the E46 M3.
