Also I know that the frame rate is a little wonky. I shot the video in 24fps because I thought it would look better buuuuuuuuuut it did not, in fact, translate well to the final edit
This game was so formative for me. You're definitely right about the card system being insanely complex. As a huge fan and competitive player of games like Yugioh, MTG, and hearthstone, the Magnus system is waaaaay too convoluted. Despite all that, I still love the janky charm of it. Well done on this retrospective!
Thank you so much :) I feel you on that front btw, I was a YGO fan at the beginning when it came to the US, so I thought I’d do better with it. But it’s also super satisfying when you get a combo down and make fried rice!
Spoiler: Something interesting that you did not mention (and we never see that in other jrpg) It's that Kalas (the protagonist) betrayed us since the beginning with Melodia (same story writer from Chrono Cross "Masato Kato") lol. Also the plot twist about the real identity of Malpercio in Baten Kaitos Origins (the prequel) is quite wild lol. Also yeah it's easily best soundtrack from Sakuraba, I miss his more older music style like that.
True, I did ignore that plot point. I still haven't quite figured out right balance of "talk about the entire plot" vs "talk not enough about the plot" lol. I really do miss the older RPG music/Sakuraba scores too. The man is a legend!!

Your script for this video was really good. The jokes landed and I laughed several times!
Hey thanks! The goal is to get better at writing and bringing my actual brand of comedy into the edit without feeling forced, ya know? :)
Just realized Kalas is wearing crocs you’ll never unsee that now.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who sees that 😂

Great work, congratulations !
...wait is it Golden Sun OST ? 😂
No, but there's a reason it sounds the same! Gotta love Motoi Sakuraba!
@@chocobose It's not ? It sounds the exact same as the Tolbi theme 😮
Ohhhhhhh at the intro. Yeah sorry THAT is Golden Sun :)
Hell yeah, Baten Kaitos video
