The tour starts at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Bruckner Boulevard, right on the edge of the Hunts Point neighborhood. This area is known for its large food distribution center, which is one of the largest in the world. As you walk north on Southern Boulevard, you'll see numerous wholesale food markets, distributors, and warehouses that supply restaurants, grocery stores, and other businesses across the region.
Continuing north, you'll pass by several residential blocks with a mix of apartment buildings, row houses, and small commercial spaces. This part of Hunts Point has a vibrant Latino community, with many #Dominican, Puerto Rican, and #Mexican eateries and shops.
Turning east onto Spofford Avenue, you'll enter the heart of the Hunts Point peninsula. This area was once home to heavy industry, but is now undergoing redevelopment with new affordable housing, green spaces, and community facilities. Key sights include the Hunts Point Riverside Park, which provides access to the Bronx River, and the Spofford Juvenile Detention Center, which is being transformed into a mixed-use development.
