This is a follow up to my Palworld first impressions video, during which I was having such a fun time with the game I decided that I’d make a follow up full review where I capture every pal and complete the game.
Previously we began our adventure on the Pal Islands by creating a hairy bearded man, we built our first base about 20 metres from the where you spawn into the world and I was instantly captivated by the idea of taming these cute little pokemon like creatures and turning them into my work slaves or just straight up slaughtering them for resources.
We died trying to capture a Dinosom, we equipped ourselves with better gear, tamed a melpaca to help me go out and explore, fended off multiple invasions and caught numerous Alpha pals with my strongest being Wixen and Katress.
We ended the first impressions at level 23 after defeating Zoe and Grizzbolt but in this video we’ll be continuing where we left off and fully finishing the game.

You can upgradeyou characters base catch rate with Lifmunk Effigy's and the Anubis Statue. It makes exporing a must like going around mountain ledges and what not especially at night when you can see them from a distance. But changing the setting via world settings is aight.
FYI, I don't know if this is intentional but your link goes straight to the apple app store so anyone on android can't use it.
How come your voice is always so much lower than any other youtuber and all commericials?
There's a breeding system where you can min-max pals too. You can tailor you pal to do damage, or be an extremely efficient worker. Pretty fun for what it is.
Is it possible to make a fluffy Lamball as strong as an end-game pal?

You can breed a lambal to destroy all current content.
Yet a breeded end game pal will still be stronger than the lambal
The only problem with breeding is you beat the game before you have a strong enough economy and enough time to fine tune pals.
Maybe if there was some late endgame content... I would suggest endless scaling but I don't think I'm a fan of that kind of thing.
@@bun4501 Indeed you can, in fact there'a literally bunch of videos here on yt pretty much dedicated to taking the most harmless pals like lamballs and cattiva's and breeding them to be god-like creatures lol.

plus i personally know at least 6 people that are only able to focus on the centre of the screen so quests, text on the bottom even health bars are often missed
@@IsThatDrakTell them to start playing games as a healer. Final Fantasy 14 is very healer friendly MMO. It gets somewhat harder at shadowbringer content but that's a long way in and they should know how to heal by then and they will likely have learned how to see more of the screen! :)
If you are getting over-encumbered when collecting resources from your resource creation items; as long as you are in the circle, your resources pull from one central 'storage box' - even if your items are spread across many boxes. So put a box beside your lumber/stone pits/ranch etc, so you don't have to carry it far when you collect the resources. You can also build your boxes by a wall and then just use your grappling gun - shoot at the wall and pull yourself to the box from the various resource areas. It saves making that slow walk each time.
Best thing I ever did in the game was to setup a ore mining base with tier 3 mining and tier 3 transport pals after I found a spot with ~8 iron nodes. Later did the same thing with coal! I still have lots of playing to do before I beat the game though
The most fun is when you won legit. I was tired of the game when I tried for frostalion and just burn him from over a cliff with a fire mount. Captured 2, took that get 2 jetragons. Ice beat dragon.
2 jetragon and 3 random pals with vangard and +1 pump shotgun won me the last boss. Dragon beat dark.
I should have took the slow path of getting better fire pals to get frostalion. But the ice spike one hit everything I had.
@@boeingnzGaleclaw saved my ass so many times during the last bosses. You just jump and glide around and it avoids everything.

I'm honestly amazed that this man has somehow managed to capture all the pals while basically ignoring a lot of the game mechanics:
-Breeding for better pals(whether it be for fighting or working)
-Building proper bases(one for mining, the rest could be for the other resource)
-Ignoring which pal has the best skills for certain tasks.
Most of his cons are easily solved by this. He was playing where he just focuses on his character with pals as just a bonus instead of centering the game around pals and you are the one supporting them.
Yea, he had gathering on x3 and xp really high. I am currently on x1 all and still feel good progression speed at level 42, I have 10k ore to spare. Only thing annoying is the coal. Currently captured the bugged digtoise, looking for another mining 3 to fix that.
while on* one hand I respect him going in with minimal research/blind, I can't help but feel these series aren't deserving of the "full review/is ___ worth" title. this is a first impressions at best...

That's why he's called "Lazy", lol. But seriously, I respect his approach, he enters a game the way that most new players would and reports back on that experience. That's why I love his First Impressions series, he unravels games the way that I do, by exploration. A new player is NOT going to min/max by breeding the best stats, he may eventually get to that point in subsequent playthroughs, but certainly not off the bat. This review was spot on and I found myself not disagreeing with anything he said, even though I usually do in many of his reviews. To combine his takeaway with yours, I think he is spot on, and you are also correct that most of his complaints can be addressed in subsequent playthroughs with a more thorough understanding of the underlying mechanics. The one thing I hope we can all agree on: this game has HUGE potential to grow into something even more fantastic.
@BobFromSeattle yeah I agree with you for the most part, I just think the title shouldn't be called "full review" or something if his complaints on his playthrough was just him not using the in game mechanics.
While it'd be impossible to know which pals are good for each task, I thought it would be normal after a few hours of play time for people to realize just how important pals are for getting resources especially ore. So even if you aren't using the best pals, you eventually swap them out for better ones the more you complete your dex.
I'm surprised he got so far while mostly ignoring basic game mechanics
Some of his cons were also just skill issues
Yeap the waiting for ignots one when he didn’t use the jormuntide ignis on them and the base customisation when he didn’t know that you can right click and keep on building
Also he used ice pals to fight fire and fire to fight water then wonders why he got wrecked

Couple of things LP, in case you decide to return to the game post review:
-Did you pick up any Lifmunk Effigies? (Glowing green statue things) Sacrificing them to a statue of power (Either your own or one in a church ruin) improves your capture rate.
-There are specific buildings you can make in your base to improve the work speed of your pals there. For example the Toolbox improve the handicraft of pals with that trait, which speeds up how quick they work.
-Regarding pals not working the jobs you want, each pal has a job they prioritize, even if they can do multiple jobs. (Lamball can transport and handicraft, but prioritizes grazing at the ranch) You override their priorities by picking them up and throwing them at specific tasks (this is currently very buggy)
-Lastly, for the love of god. Pleeeease right click when you're base building! xD

One thing I noticed for your cons is that the pals are slow. Well you never ventured into the whole breeding, condensing, and using the statue and pal souls to buff your pals. Granted that isn't for everyone and depending on world settings can take a huge amount of time to do. But a level 4 kindling can be improved to level 5(condensing to 4 star), and you can improve it's work speed with breeding and also the statue throwing pal souls into it. Doing this you can also make your pals into giga chad's for fighting too. Again huge time sink even with tweaking your game settings.
I also noticed you didn't appear to take much notice to the elements and what is better against certain elements. Using the right pal elements against others can make it a much easier fight. Like using water (or is it ice I always have to double check) against fire allows your pal to do double damage. Stacking your party with the right pals makes the bosses go easier.

Nice review and good to see you had a good time. A lot of your 'cons' are definitely fair and hopefully something that will get addressed throughout early access.
That said you did take a pretty "brute force" approach to playing the game, ignoring a lot of the survival, base building and creature collecting mechanics, which seemed to impact a lot of the things you ended up struggling with. It's cool that the game caters to many different playstyles (and lets you change the settings to reflect it), but if you had looked a bit more into the game mechanics a lot of your issues would have been solved:
- Making a dedicated automated mining and smelting base
- Paying attention to pals with high level skills (at endgame level 4 skills are pretty crucial - the dragon you mocked had level 4 fire skill)
- Giving breeding a try to improve your work and combat pals
- Paying attention to elemental advantages and disadvantages (i.e. using a fire Wixen against a water dragon is not very effective)
- Leveraging your pal team instead of just focusing on your own damage (active rotation of pals, using pal synergies, using good pal passives etc.)
I know you played the game blind and it certainly should function when doing that, but maybe it would be an idea to check up on what you missed before giving the gameplay/balance the final judgement?
To address some things you mentioned in the video:
there is an item you can learn to build called the monitoring stand, where you can change the speed at which pals in your base work, with the max setting being called brutal, which can literally work your pals to death I think. You can also pick up pals in your base and throw them at a work station to permanently assign them there.
toward end game the requirement on minerals are indeed very high, so people will set up a "mining base", right on a collection of mining nodes, with only pals that mine and carry and little to no crafting stations, so you pals can automatically gather minerals while you craft stuff in another base.
early game you want to put pals with a lot of skills in your base as all your production are squeezed into one base, but toward late game as you get more bases, you will want to separate your production facilities and put more specialized pals with only a couple high level skills into your bases so there's less chance of your workers not doing the correct job. Some larger pals or flying ones can easily get stuck on walls and crafting stations, so its not a good idea to put them inside a building, rather you should find an open and flat area and spread the stations out more.

The latest patch improves the AI of the base pals to prioritize the work they are good with. So that should be less frustrating.
For ore mining, I think the location you selected might not have been ideal. There's one location slightly further from the beginner's area which will provide you with 7 ore nodes. Better still, there are other locations which will give you both ore and coal nodes at the same time. You never run out of it. And with the newly upgraded mining turtle, ingots, refined ingots and pal ingots will be plentiful.
Peon, I've been following your channel since 2017 back when I was actively playing Black Desert Online. It's refreshing to once again play a game you are reviewing and I greatly appreciate your efforts and energy towards this gem of a game.
i started playing bdo back in 2022 and inow iam still lvl 13 lol, all i do is run around the map and explore then logoff its beautiful game i do fight some monsters sometimes cuz why not 🥰🥰

Looks interesting. Obviously it's in early access. But a huge problem is the blur censoring. Pretty much all games do not censor gore or give it as a user option.
Palworld is such a great game. I reckon it would benefit greatly from optional seasonal map wipes and map randomization.
Its one of those games that seem like it would be fun to play over and over.
OMG! Thank you! At 10:40 you said improved furnace to make refined ingots. I had completely missed that and thought it was just for improved fire pal efficiency. So had made it and was just ignoring it. Thumbs up!
I honestly appreciate your thoughts on the game. I play in a very different (min-max) way and saw a lot of the issues you had to correct via the menu resolved with a little more game knowledge. However I can see how the path you took is very intuitive and that many of the systems the game uses need a lot more direction in order to be something a standard player would consider.
My 2 main critiques are that there really isn't any "endgame" at present and balance is pretty far off. Sure there are the tower bosses that serve as DPS checks, but with a couple tricks (Gobfin are broken) DPS is not really an issue any longer; to that end player power scales way harder than pals invalidating "team comps". Breeding is the closest thing I found to an endgame system, unfortunately once you are level 19 you have easy access to every pal in the game short of the legendary pals, and with some Huge Egg luck you can even start breeding them by 20. for me, levels 20 through 50 were almost all gained through Cake production and Egg hatching as I could make everything I wanted without even leaving the base. Once you have your "Perfect" pal bred up all you really get to do with it is stomp wildlife, which is pretty anti-climatic.
I think that you are spot on that the dungeon system needs work. unlocking some sort of endgame mode after beating Victor that boost all dungeons to extra hard versions with extra loot (like refined ingots and other high-end gear) would resolve a lot of problems I have with the game. Hard mode exists, but making eggs take 24h to hatch really only works to artificially elongate the game, not really require more skill, so something baked into the game (like a boosted dungeon) feels like a good compromise.
I definitely agree on your point about the breeding and pal availability. But I always felt that was an option if only you specifically wanted to play that way. I personally avoid breeding pals I haven't caught or hatched from a found egg. Only time I used the breeding system was to get a Ragnahawk with swift, and not even perfect stats. Definitely a lot broken with this game but I feel the balance is pretty good, but I'm still in low 40s. Mining isn't that bad either you just make a mining base and check in once in a while. Maybe making a palmetal ingot is much worse, haven't unlocked it yet.

It is VERY worth mentioning that when asked about the cost of making Palworld the devs have just pointed towards the revenue of their previous games (but this is their first game in unreal engine which is where the "learning on the job" quote comes from)
But for the money, going of of that statement together with what most of the buggs look like and I have a big feeling they didn´t release because they thought it was ready for early access, I have a big feeling they were forced to release because they ran out of money which means it´s not just early access but probably closer to early-early access.
Which if this is what Palworld looks like in early-early access, I personally can´t wait to see what it´ll look like when actually finished
I once logged out while swimming in the water. Later i logged back in and I'm under the map about a mile deep and realized im in the ocean floor with no water down under. They kept the water level about a knee deep for the character! I thought i was in the under world haha i eventually climbed up the rocks and entered up from the water. it was crazy.
I wanna start playing a new mmo. What can you recommend that doesn’t need hundreds of hours of grinding that’s good for playing here and there?
Palworld is a really impressive game for what it is now. I plan on playing it when it's out of early access.

Yes, level 4 fire skill. Goes through 100 ingots in like 2 minutes.
I'm sure you know about it already now, but there was a bug in the game were raising your capture rate with the effigy statues actually lowered your rate. It's fixed now.

as non survival player i still enjoy the game. but only because you can set the world settings.
but don't change the exp rates. capturing each pal 10 times for bonus exp is the way you should play it, so you also get different ones with different skills.
just increase capture rate to 2, increase item drop and collectibles. there is no urgency in grinding.
there is no gameplay, or danger in collecting wood, stone, ores... just time and nothing else. same with pal spheres, having to throw more to catch is just more resources to gain...
and if you are on pc, get mods... again, saving time. make bases share storage, and no carry weight limit in base, even fast travel from anywhere, so you can farm some ore/coal and get back to base, without hookshot step by step to the fast travel station...
and no matter how you want to play, don't build small corridor bases. if the pal does not fit... it does not work.
a giant boss monster with handwork 4 does not help in your base if it cant reach the work bench.
i play with an open field, no house needed, and only using small pals at this point, just to not have them being stuck all the time...
also cute pals > big "epic" monsters.
and find a ore mine spot.
6 clumps of ore, put the 2nd palbox there, put beds, berry farm, chests, and let them do... this is basically needed though out the whole game, even on times 3 gathering (the amount of ore necessary is not balanced yet, lets be honest)
Friend called me to Palworld, your first impression showed me enough to buy it.
I really like we can change world setting as we go without disabling achievemnts - mainly was switching XP rate when playing together and alone.
Pals hecking cute, that is the meat of game for me. Gameplay itself not enoigh compared to my other games so I cannot sink into it 3 hours on daily basis. Pals cute, palworld good.
18:02 - Lily's Spear is good too and it faster if you do "crouch and hit" spam technic.
14:20 - Dude, there are things that you can build at your base which improves a certain working skill of your pals: Stump and Axe for Logging; Pickaxe and Helmet for Mining; Toolbox for Handiwork; Flame Cauldron for Kindling; Silo for Planting; Water Fountain for Watering and so on. I think you just missed some of those in the tech tree.
Also all your pals on the screen are depressed or weakened which is significantly reduces their working speed.

Wrong order imho ^^ Frostallion can facetank Jetdragon but not the other way around ^^
And if you attack Necromus at night you got until morning without Paladius adding if the fight against two is too hard.
The rocketlauncher is quite handy for interrupting pals and while lower DPS than the assaultrifle it is much better dmg / production cost. But if you buy the assault rifle ammo in the dessert city the assault rifle is really good. And if you struggle with money due to the nail nerf.. baked berries.. easy to produce and while heavier than pizza usually worth selling.. i mean if you got a breeding base with extra milk production pizza is nice as well.
Oh and Frostallion Noct is the shit for a farm base...4 in cutting and awake at night so when your plant pals get up in the morning the fields are ready to be seeded.
For the price and what you get. From an indie dev it’s on par if not better than most triple a devs, you can buy this and another good indie game and have way more fun and sink way more time. Yeah it’s got bugs but the value more than compensates for it
there is a min max on breeding that you can make a faster worker pals you can also upgrade pal tru pal soul
One of the cons should've been the over reliance on catching pals for exp. It's, like, the only real way to level up at a decent speed at later levels, catching your first 10 of a pal. Gets a bit meh after doing it for so long. Late game definitely needs a better variety of exp gaining methods
Like a lot of survival games, I'm assuming that Palworld was 'balanced' more for online multiplayer compared to single player. Getting through the first 20-30 levels goes by pretty quickly, but then things start to slow down considerably. 40+ is a massive slog, and it only gets continually worse as you get closer to 50. This is annoying in a single player game, but makes more sense for multiplayer, as it means it takes longer for there to be a huge gap between low level players and high level players.
Unfortunately, with the way the damage scaling and such works between levels, this doesn't really help in the end. Something a few levels higher than you takes considerably less damage, and deals considerably more, even without taking higher level equipment into account.
Material acquisition is also pretty badly scaled at higher levels, for single player. Getting enough ores to keep yourself supplied with higher level spheres is awful, especially as the capture rates continually drop. Even at level 50, at base rates, you only have like a 5% chance to catch the legendary pals, without them being poisoned/burning/shocked/frozen. Not having to do everything yourself when you're playing with others reduces the burden considerably.
@@AeriFyrein The game is a survival and base building game at its core. If you set yourself up with a one or two bases with full automated mining and smelting (with proper pals) the resource grind for spheres is definitely manageable (unless you're consistently underleveled for what you fight). For things like ammo (or cake ingredients for the breeders) you can trade it from merchants. For the people who doesn't enjoy the base building as much the give you the option to change the settings (and I agree they could benefit from adding even more).
It's always a tough balance whether an a game with levels should get grindy towards the end. If it is some people complain about the grind, if not others complain about it being over too soon. Hopefully more content and pals getting will make it feel less like a grind.
literally everything you do gives exp, i reached level 50 in due time with no problems, i spent alot of time tinkering with bases and earning passive exp for every successful harvest and craft of anything while inside the base. It was inefficient but smooth progression.
@@Vihara2 yeah, everything you do gives exp, but not everything you do can be a 10 second throw of a ball that catches a pal and gives you 4000+ exp (scaling with your level) easy. If that exp gathering method could get scaled down, the rest could get scaled up and make it feel more balanced
@@DKSprocket Oh, I get all that. I'm just making the point that most survival games don't balance very well between multiplayer and single player. Basically every survival game that has multiplayer prioritizes that over the single player experience, and it can usually be felt.
For Palworld specifically, yes, you can make the resource grind "manageable" in a single player game. That doesn't necessarily make it *FUN*, though. Especially at the base rates the game is normally set to.
for the capture rate, you actually take a penalty on both your capture rate and damage if you're lower level than the pal you're trying to catch
this is done because the devs want people to breed and interact with more of the skills each pal has
so you have time to smell the roses yakno
Nice review! Fun game, i played about 100 hours of it, but i will wait until 1.0 releases before i continue. 2023 was a great year for gaming and i stil have so many other games on my list...
i played for a little bit at launch, think I got to like lvl15. Havent been back now for a few weeks+, but my intention when I bought it wasnt that it was going to be my main game that i play start to finish. I liked it, and intent on circling back from time to time, play for a bit in between main games.

Im still playing it anyone saying its dead are being disingenuous based on the insane success it had for a game that people thought would bomb. I play once a week and im really enjoying coming back each time

You went to the extreme of memory wiped...
The last boss is dark and weak to dragon and did little damage too so just two jetragon. The rest of the team can be just attack buffs pals. Also needed attack pendents.
Put the catch rate to max made the game too easy. Then again you didn't catch any anubis with fastest crafting time. Or put a base at the place with lots of ores that you can mine really quickly with buffs from pals.
With new patch, pals mining is a lot better. And you didn't catch them all yet. You can still have fun playing it !!! 😊
You can specify tasks for pals though.

Couldn't agree more with the grind. Really enjoyed Palworld myself but its ridiculous how much I have to bump up those multipliers so that it feels even remotely reasonable. Just gonna leave it in my hard drive until there's a meaningful content update or they make things less resource intensive
Little help try using a bow and a crossbow on lower level pals the musket will most likely 1 shot em. Have you built any of the items that increase their efficiency in tasks like a toolbox for handiwork a brazier for kindling etc

I really don't understand people getting all assmad over this game being like pokemon, when it's clearly for a different audience. Us, the first gen who grew up with pokemon, grew up and pokemon didn't and that's okay, but palworld caters to our age group. This difference in target audience is important, because it means they're not directly competing with each other, but it could also maybe give nintendo some ideas for new games. It's beneficial all around imo.

I have never fought Jetragon without him being stuck inside of a big rock. Unfortunelately i can never hurt him when that happens... And i'm falling through the surface on a daily basis. Anyway, the game is great fun. 😂
