The SV650X is the bike that i've been dreaming about. I finally decided to get the driver license for motorcycles and i am going to try and buy my dream bike. (i am from Romania and this bike is like a one year pay. :) ) So wish me good luck! Keep up the good job guys with your youtube chanel!
I hope you find one and are able to get it. I have been looking for this bike for two years but would not settle for any bike other than the black and white like in this video. I just found a 2019 , 7 days ago with only 1105 miles on it. I snatche it. I am loving this bike. I used to ride R1's but I think I like this bike better. Good luck.
You bought the best bike for the money. I have the same one. Brakes are OK, engine is more than enough and riding it is fantastic. I have one, so this is from my experience.
Really considering a left over model next year, I've always wanted an SV and since I currently have a 600 the SVs clip ons by comparison will probably feel like regular handlebar position to me haha.
SV650X is a best fun bike for the money slap a good exhaust on it and boom and instant smile maker every time You crank that throttle!! Ps a little bellypan looks good as well to hide the oil filter and the headders! And if You are serious about thack just slap a GSXR 750 front end on it and rear shock and rear sets and you will have a perfect track bike. It won't be the quickest down the straight(put a bigger sprocket by 2 at the back and you gonna be much quicker out the corners) but in the twists you will get back on a lot on big cc bikes if you know what your doing! Plus it's a bike where you can pin the throttle on publick roads and you won't go to jail for it!! That is why Suzuki been making it for so long cause it is so fun and versatile!!
I just bought this bike. What slip on would you recommend? Do you have any pictures of the belly pan. That oil filter does stick out like a sore thumb and seems vulnerable
Good job. I really appreciate your doing a "straight" review, rather than some of the earlier short take, chopped, stand up comedy littered with memes narration videos you used to do. This has a more grown up feel. On substance, I think maybe the regular SV650 is more similar to the XSR700 than the SV650X, which quite a few add ons that bump the price and which the XSR doesn't have.
After riding and owning many different motorcycles... man the 650 V twin Suzuki made for the sv is the most incredible engine I have ever felt. It's just so grunty and ripe with character. Kicking myself for selling my '03 SV650 right now.
I do not own a bike. I had a ride on a 2016 SV650 about a year ago along with 3 other bikes from honda and kawasaki. The SV650 is for sure the bike that i want feels amazing, and yes she does have some kick and pep from the engine. I opened it up on a straight through a few gears and didnt even realize i hit 90 mph in no time at all. A bike you can for sure get in trouble with, but it is very comfortable and forgiving. I love it
Super happy you guys did this one, I've been looking at the cafe sv650x for a while now. You guys confirmed what I was hoping for out of the SV, hopefully they're selling well I'd like to pick one up in a year or so. ✌🏼😀🏍
I have the standard SV650 I bought as a commuter bike but after changing the rear tyre to a 180/55 it totally transformed the bike, now I find myself using the little SV almost as much for weekend fun as I do my Street Triple R.
I’m really liking the idea of getting an SV. I’ve been riding a VTX1800 for over 13 years and I’m tired of the cruiser life. Really looking to get onto something much smaller and nimble, especially for commuting.
The older I get, the more I enjoy smaller lighter bikes (up to a point). I have an SV650, which I love, and decided to add a cruiser to the stable (Vulcan 900 Custom) a few months ago, thinking I might like stretching out. Mistake. Heavy and not that fun to ride.
Really love the look of the sv650! I’m sure spite would agree you guys should throw in a cruiser or two next time around (maybe like a scout bobber or one of the sportsters)
Had two xsr's, the first bike was a great bike, light, flickable, torquey. The second on I had after owning a cb650f seemed bitey with poorly set up suspension and didn't flick like I remembered and I'm not saying the cb650f was a good bike for me at all. Overall I should have chosen the sv that I test rode the same time as the second xsr, the sv is better value and so so much more forgiving, you rode it, it doesn't ride you kind of thing.
Meanwhile my old Aprilia Pegaso 650 single cyl from 2008 featured brembos front and rear from factory.. Imagine that 12 years later the Japanese are still rocking off-the-shelf spare parts for the main safety feature on your bike. Ah well, as long as they do the job, but it would be nice if they just upgraded to something a little more worthy of a 2020 model year bike at this price point.
I had 1st gen SV650 and it handled amazing specially after replacing rear shock from gixer600 and progressive spring with heavier fork oil.that little beast was a blast to ride specially above 6k rpm after that it transform into a screamer race bike. Anyway I like both bikes but SV650 is special not just by me but army of cult SV followers
This was by far the best review that I have seen so far. An effective format and really useful, as I am saving to take a direct access course. I don't own a bike yet, but I am considering a KTM 390 for the first year. Any review on that would be great.
One of the best test videos out there. Having riden both bikes and owning a sv you hit all thing point on. You even made a wrong assumption going in and admitted these bikes are totally different even when close on specs and both with retro flavor. The XSR lost me when coming to a full stop and swinging back and forth three or four times.
In early April 2021, I was trying to buy an XSR 700 for my son, but dealers were adding on so much for freight etc., the total price was $9200 before sales tax. I stumbled upon a new 2020 SV650 ABS and they offered me $8000 out the door before tax. So I bought the SV. Couldn't be happier. Bike rides like a little dart and handles effortlessly. Looks beautiful. I've never owned a Suzuki before, but so far, I am completely impressed. Very fun to ride. I think we would have like the XSR as well, but not worth $1200 more.
I have try both and for rider over 6 foot, xsr700 is way better then sv. So my green toy xsr700 win and im so happy that I go for it is more fun bike everyday, thinking about to upgrade for xsr900 but this sound of xsr700 and hoe easy and nimble it is , is unbeatable. Regards
Thanks guys. The standard SV is more like a Gixxer wannabe. I know that's harsh, but it's true. It is NOT a good platform for a track bike. (It's a good track DAY bike, but not a good TRACK bike.) Guys would swap the forks for gixxer forks because the stock ones would get squirmy under hard braking. As a street bike, the full fairings are slightly pretentious. With the X model, I think the SV has found itself. It's niche is "weekday street/weekend canyon carver". They also made the naked SFV650 Gladius with good build quality that FortNine reviewed (but I don't like the up-bars). I vote for the SV over the XSR. I don't like the extra 20 lbs but I do like the adjustable suspension and clip-ons for country roads, and the bike is probably narrower due to the V engine (more ground clearance). Note: the Gladius used 10-jet gixxer fuel injectors to fix the jerky acceleration. Someone with moderate mechanical skills could swap in some used gixxer injectors. Lastly, I think the XRS's tendency to lift the front end has nothing to do with the engine but is related to the (higher?) center of gravity and the (shorter?) wheel base.
SV650 does not have “idle control” it has low RPM assist. Completely different. Unless I’m completely missing something on a bike I own. Most modern bikes have eliminated an idle adjust knob.
Suzuki’s patented Throttle-body Integrated Idle Speed Control (TI-ISC) eases starting, stabilizes the engine idle speed, and helps lower emissions. The system is compact and lightweight. The TI-ISC on the SV650X incorporates Suzuki’s Low RPM Assist feature that seamlessly adjusts engine speed during takeoff and low-speed running to smooth the power delivery and to help eliminate the possibility of the rider stalling the motorcycle.
I owned SV years ago, it had bad brakes.... But the thing is I did not use them a lot (compared to the 4-cylinder bike I also owned) because engine is braking quite hard... That is a plus if you have a 2-cylinder bike: engine braking. So, what happened? I bought a replacement braking pads and I never used them! The original pads never wore out! Amazing. I missed ABS, though... Braking in the wet with ABS is a different planet...
Yammie, finally! I have been waiting for you to pay some attention to the way cooler version of sv650! I mean, reg. design you compare and mention sv650 a lot but disregard the X and your terms is like mentioning Triumph and not suggesting a sponsorship contract... So... thanks
Hey Yamm & Spite. Would you do a video about swapping the front end of the SV650X with one from GSXR750 or 1000? I know of a few people who want to do it, including myself, but its a bit daunting. Many thanks Hans

Just paid $8,350 for a new 18" Z900rs Kawi three days ago. This thing has more power than I'll ever need to use. Interesting to me that these two are essentially the same MSRP. Just goes to show if you shop around, you can find good deals. However, I had to drive two states away to pick up this deal.
@@johns1139 Yep, I know. Hence driving to Kentucky from Bama. I couldn't believe they had an '18 unsold really though. Prices are higher now, but check out Motohunt and Cycle Trader. Found mine on Cycle Trader. But Motohunt's good also. 👍
I've just sold my Yamaha Ténéré 700 privately after a year of trouble free ownership and got most of my money back. It was a great bike and the CP2 engine is a peach, but it just wasn't the bike for me . So, I went out and got an excellent deal on 2021 Suzuki SV650. I absolutely love the thing - what a bike - and so underated! It sounds wonderful, handles great and it's a bargain. It's also great to be back on a sports bike with 17" wheels, I feel so much more comfortable. Adventure bikes have their place, but I do mostly urban riding and I found the Ténéré just too top heavy and it was a bit of a handful in some situations - give me the SV650 any day!
@@Zbroja69 I noticed Yamaha have put 23-litre dual fuel tanks on the Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid. It's made the bike a lot wider, plus they've also flattened the top of the tank in the process - I bet it's lowered the centre of gravity! Also, the suspension is far better compared to the base spec Ténéré 700, which is a bit too soft. I wouldn't buy another adventure bike, but I would love a go on a BMW R1250GS. All adventure bikes are inherently heavy but the GS uses a flat-twin boxer engine which keeps the weight down nice and low. Apparently, there's a new one on the horizon, which should be interesting, as it's already one of the best adventure bikes you can buy, if not the best. 👍
Love your videos I hate how in Australia bikes are so much more expensive the XSR700 is $12899 and the SV650X is $9990 so there is almost $3000 difference between these two bikes
Well in Australian dollars, the SV650X at 10,000 AuD is much less expensive than in the US (and a real bargain) That's about $7000 USD. But 12899 AuD for an XSR700 would be quite a bit more than in the US I don't understand that at all.
They're taxable business expenditures, general revenue on merchandise, and content for the channel. I'm sure he's making a decent return in these bikes.
Changing the handle-bars on a modern motorbike is a big effort. Especially when you want to rise them. In fact rather impossible considering the cables and brake line ...
I had a hard time deciding between an sv650 and Kawasaki z650, but the fact that my "local" Suzuki dealer is 2 towns away made it easier for me to get the Kawasaki. And I love my Z.
Bit of a fun-fact: Where I live, suzuki decided to stop selling the SV650X with the clip-ons, because over 85% of people who bought them wanted them with the regular handlebar.
Yeah, I can see why. I'd want the better suspension and maybe the headlight cowl, but not really the clip-ons of the x. It's a shame the standard SV doesn't have the same suspension.
I recently bought a sv650x going from a bandit 1200, best decision I've made love the SV! Also where can I grab one of those reservoir covers for my sv ;)?
@@rubo1964Partly yes. I did lowside mine and it never ran properly since and was using too much fuel for the purpose I needed it for. The Bandit was a fun bike dont get me wrong but it didnt suit my purpose or needs.
I've made exactly the same change...from a b12 to a 2005 sv650. Love the smaller suzuki and faster on daily traffic than the bandit. Motorways are another story where the bandit really shines.
Love the sv650 i have a 1st gen for track and 2nd gen for street. I want to buy a cbr600rr and is hard for me to get rid of the sv that is how fun they are.
That's funny, because I have a gen 3 SV650 (non-x) that I use for my daily rider/fun bike. I keep thinking about buying something else and just can't give up the SV.
So gald you mentioned throttle being jerky, i was doing my bike lesson on an sv650 and never managed to start it smoothly (car park speed) and always thought it was my untrained throttle hand.
It's actually really smooth starting off in 1st, where it gets jerky is into second. Not accelerating while shifting from 1st to 2nd, it happens after decelerating. If you let off the throttle in second into the corner, if can't feel jerky getting back on the throttle is what I found. So I find to smooth it out I kind to have to feather the clutch a bit and it really helps.
Hi Bryan. Greetings from Germany. I own the sv650x since 2018, and I'm 60 years old. You get used to the handle bars very quickly, you can even change your seat position by the angle of your arms. It's only surprising when you're riding it the first few times. I do rides with my buddies up to 180 miles per day. After all, a little exercise for your neck muscles. Drive safely....
Also fair disclosure, I got my SV650X for 7500 out the door and I haven't seen any kinds of deals on the Yamaha's being marked down anywhere. Maybe its different where ya'll live. At that price difference the SV was a sure thing.
Great stuff Yammie, it is sooooooo interesting to see how your channel has grown and changed. This feels a lot more 'grown-up'. I'm surprised the XSR doesn't have better suspension, but Suzuki have been making the SV for 31 years, so they've had a lot of time to get it sorted. :)
i have the mt 07 , but in this style i prefer the sv 650x , is so good bike , beatiful , good loock,..amd good motor engine v2 power,.. sv650x have big diference -standard model sv- style diference

Tiny bit constructive critique. The audio has been a bit finniky in your latest videos. Make sure that you dont have phase issues when using multiple mics and that you dont gain the preamps too high during recording. Otherwise love the vids! -audio engineer from finland
When you guys talk about brakes and suspension (B-, C-) are these things we can upgrade to make them A+, or does that mean we need to upgrade the bike class entirely? I’m new here! Love your content! Thanks Yammie team
I upgraded my SV suspension gixer 600 rear shock common mod drops right in and progressive spring at front with heavier fork oil.Breaks were decent did the job.

LOVE my XSR700...it's incredibly fun and has all the power you need for longer rides, with a comfortable setup.
I like the look of the XSR 700..just my opinion
The SV is kinda reminding me of my old 94 katana, in a v-twin package.
The SV looks so much better IMO however the XSR900 is a closer match (visually)
I prefer the non X SV - I just think that plastic makes it look stupid :) But to each their own.
Like many of Suzuki's bikes, the SV650 seems frozen in time. They need to clean house when it comes to styling.
Wow that's a great deal! Here in CA, they're mostly going for mid $10,000s before all the fees.
Try mt07 or xsr700 ot tracer 7 which share the same engine as tenere 700. Tenere 700 is amazing but it’s too adv’ish for your needs as you mentioned.
Yammie Noob when Spite gives the SV a little stick "there is no chequered flag".
Next minute get on, walks away from Spite doing 50 in the twisties
Love your videos I hate how in Australia bikes are so much more expensive the XSR700 is $12899 and the SV650X is $9990 so there is almost $3000 difference between these two bikes
Well in Australian dollars, the SV650X at 10,000 AuD is much less expensive than in the US (and a real bargain) That's about $7000 USD. But 12899 AuD for an XSR700 would be quite a bit more than in the US I don't understand that at all.
Sweeeet. I'm amazed that you keep doing these giveaways...
Yeah hes losing sooo much money
@@davidstancu2963 is he though?
Lmao he's making bank off these duh that's how sweepstakes work 😂
I think he was being sarcastic though
They're taxable business expenditures, general revenue on merchandise, and content for the channel. I'm sure he's making a decent return in these bikes.
I got a 2020 sv standard(base) for 6800 out the door. Yes please🤘
The SV is cheaper?!?!? Wow! Nice bike!
please take the sv to the track!!
Both are excellent !!
Hey Yammie, what gloves are those that you're wearing in this vid? They look pretty good!
Man, I wish I could actually get into an MSF class this year, too bad they are jam packed due to the virus.
Don’t give up hope man. And just know, the class doesn’t actually have to be MSF, there are plenty of other certified companies that are just as good
Is that to get your motor cycle endorsement.?
Maybe the sv650 not the x version would be closer to xsr
Changing the handle-bars on a modern motorbike is a big effort. Especially when you want to rise them. In fact rather impossible considering the cables and brake line ...
I had a hard time deciding between an sv650 and Kawasaki z650, but the fact that my "local" Suzuki dealer is 2 towns away made it easier for me to get the Kawasaki. And I love my Z.
You can never choose wrong when you have sv650, mt07 or z650.
Ahhh the good ol days
Bit of a fun-fact: Where I live, suzuki decided to stop selling the SV650X with the clip-ons, because over 85% of people who bought them wanted them with the regular handlebar.
If u want the regular handlebar just buy the regular sv650... i really dont understand the people xd
@@DragonSiciliano well ya, I did that. I guess you do get the looks, and seat with the X.
Yeah, I can see why. I'd want the better suspension and maybe the headlight cowl, but not really the clip-ons of the x. It's a shame the standard SV doesn't have the same suspension.
Suzuki is silly. Just keep the seat and fairing, preload caps and add the bar then. I want an x with a handlebar too lol
Zach and Ari are back, but I’m still here watching guys. (Thank god they’re back tho lol)
I recently bought a sv650x going from a bandit 1200, best decision I've made love the SV! Also where can I grab one of those reservoir covers for my sv ;)?
Just curious why? Was the weight of bandit real issue? Its a beast of a bike but I suspect handled poorly.
@@farmoboy83 oh yes 100%, my b12 was exactly the same but as 90% of my riding is commuting or twisties sv made sense :)
Yesssss
Very good comparison.
I really like the sv650x. I wish the bars were raised a bit though
@@lotharhafner9578 Just bought a 2019 SVX. I will be 59 soon.
Also fair disclosure, I got my SV650X for 7500 out the door and I haven't seen any kinds of deals on the Yamaha's being marked down anywhere. Maybe its different where ya'll live. At that price difference the SV was a sure thing.
I just bought a brand new 2019 XSR700 for 7500.
@@karlschauff7989 Congrats!
@@karlschauff7989 We both got great bikes well under MSRP
Great stuff Yammie, it is sooooooo interesting to see how your channel has grown and changed. This feels a lot more 'grown-up'. I'm surprised the XSR doesn't have better suspension, but Suzuki have been making the SV for 31 years, so they've had a lot of time to get it sorted. :)
Would love to see your views on the RE 650 twins
Are you sure the SV650X has an idle control knob? Can't find it on mine... Greetings!
A good match for the Suzuki SV 650 would be the Triumph Trident 660.
i have the mt 07 , but in this style i prefer the sv 650x , is so good bike , beatiful , good loock,..amd good motor engine v2 power,.. sv650x have big diference -standard model sv- style diference
Great comparison video. Have you ever ridden the new Katana?
I waited two years for this comparison. Thanks! (My solution: xsr700 with woodcraft clip ons, 20W fork oil, steel brake lines and sport tires. Let it happen guys :))
So basically you wanna spend 2 grand to make it an sv650x(minus braided lines and tires), alright your money.
You can get a bar steer on the sv650
excellent beautiful yamaha, between this Yamaha ls ducati scrambler and the triumph scrambler with which you would stay
Yam looks like chester bennington 😂
Tiny bit constructive critique. The audio has been a bit finniky in your latest videos. Make sure that you dont have phase issues when using multiple mics and that you dont gain the preamps too high during recording.
Otherwise love the vids!

A closer and more true/realistic comparison would have been the std sv650 with normal bars, not the sv650x with clip ons.
Took a shot for every “yino” mentioned.
That seat on the SV does nothing for me. I would be over to the upholstery shop getting it redone.
When will he announce the winners of the 5 motorcycles giveaway?
How snatchy is that SV throttle? Is it as bad a the Ktm 990? Anything under 3-4K is a herky jerky mess on the Ktm.
What a coincidence, it's my birthday! I'd love to win a bike!
Happy birthday
When you guys talk about brakes and suspension (B-, C-) are these things we can upgrade to make them A+, or does that mean we need to upgrade the bike class entirely? I’m new here!
Love your content!
Thanks Yammie team
I upgraded my SV suspension gixer 600 rear shock common mod drops right in and progressive spring at front with heavier fork oil.Breaks were decent did the job.
Feels geared towarda the sv, or is the yamaha that inferior?
Getting closer to a bandit
Yam is growing the right way
Why can’t ny join the giveaway Yammie Plz tell me why if you can
Man that SV seat looks SUPER thin.
It's better than the stock seat on the non-X SV650. It actually feels fine, depending on the shape of your bum and your weight, of course.
Sorry, can't tell from the video,do both bikes have linkage in the rear suspension?
Yammie is that the Grom on your hand @1:28
Has anyone ever installed the Bar Risers on SV650X? I've seen the parts for sale with a retailer in UK, but never seen one installed or reviewed?
I love the SV650X, but I'd want bar risers on it.
Now if Yammie ships worldwide thats a different story
Spite rides ok ish sort of sometime
