I enjoyed this. I found most of her material funny. It is difficult to make jokes in a language that is your second language. I know this because my mother was born in Japan and became an American citizen when I was 5 (my dad is an American from MN.) When my youngest sibling was 12, he asked my mother if she thought in Japanese or English before she spoke (I was 20 by then and had never though to ask her this.) She thought a moment and then answered that she thought in Japanese first. It made so much clear for all of my family. My mother was beautiful, charming, artistic, intelligent and funny. Watching Kazumi perform reminded of the many times my mother would tell us jokes. She died over two years ago and is so deeply missed by all of us including my dad.

Jeanette Meyer Check out Joe Wong. He has a thick Chinese accent and his humor is a little dry but he's great. He even got to a stand up skit in DC in front of Vice-president Joe Biden.
+Jeanette Meyer This isn't necessarily a wholly related tale, but I wanted to point out that moving to a new country where they don't speak your native language doesn't mean you will think in your native language indefinitely. I dated an exchange student from Mexico when I attended University of Montana. All of her exchange student friends spoke Spanish, so even though she was surrounded by English speaking people most of the time, she could understand it, but she just wasn't fluent yet. After we had been dating several months, her English had improved dramatically (she was very smart, as she already had her B.S. in microbiology in Mexico and wanted to further her education in the U.S. Long story short, after we had been dating a good while, I asked her the same question: "Do you think in English now, or do you still think in Spanish?" She said she thought *mostly* in English, but that she still thought in Spanish quite often too. The *really* interesting thing is that she said she wasn't even aware it had changed. She also wasn't aware when she thought in Spanish and English in the same thought until I brought it to her attention. It's really fascinating how language operates in the human brain, and just how agile and subtle it can be as well.
