Good Talk - Is The Liberal-NDP Deal Falling Apart?

  • The Conservative's double-digit lead in the polls seems to have the NDP nervous about its deal with the Liberals which helps keep Justin Trudeau in power. Every week it seems the NDP is looking for more concessions from the Liberals to stay on board. How long can that last, how long will it last? Bruce and Chantal are with us with their thoughts.

When I first heard that the NDP might not vote with the Liberals I questioned immediately ; Why would they give Trudeau notice ahead of time ?....then I learned of the support provided by the Bloc......the only answer I came up with was that this was pre-arranged with the Liberals and Bloc so that the NDP could appear to be loyal to their ideals while remaining committed to their deal with the Liberals....

I frankly don’t see how bringing in a guy who would be perceived as the personification of everything elitist and out of touch would help the Liberals.
The most important issue with the liberals for the electorate is less their competence (although they don’t score great there either) than their obliviousness to people’s actual struggles. Carney won’t help there.

According to 2022 Adult Literacy Report : Literacy is more than the ability to read and write. It’s the ability to
understand and use a wide range of materials to engage fully in activities
and opportunities at home, at work, and in the community. Literacy
enables people to meet their goals and succeed in today’s world.
According to Statistics Canada, 49% of the adult population scored below high-school literacy
levels; 17% scored in the lowest level. [1] Newcomer, Indigenous, and low-income populations
are disproportionately challenged by low literacy. These groups have also been more
impacted by the learning, employment, and financial crises that resulted from the pandemic. THIS IS an ANSWER for CANADIAN GOVERNMENT performance and why CANADA become BANANA REPUBLIC !!!!

    Mostly useless discussion here.
The reality is that Junior Trudeau is the most incompetent and destructive prime minister ever seen in Canadian history, and his regime since 2015 has been the most destructive ever seen and felt in Canadian history, by far.
The Liberal-NDP "supply and confidence" agreement was always in reality a coalition agreement that was made mostly for political convenience, and to ensure that both Singh and Trudeau could legally barricade themselves in office until October 2025.
The agreement itself has otherwise simply served as a continuation and extension of Trudeau's disastrous regime, with no redeemable value for Canadian tax-payers whatsoever.
Anyone who believes otherwise is beyond delusional.
These are the kinds of glaring, ugly, and dysfunctional aspects of Canada's political wasteland that these three "commentators" should be vigorously pursuing and discussing in depth, instead of putting on this pedestrian paint-drying watch party.

Even if we have to wait under Oct 2025 (which I doubt) , even if we have to wait, it will only get worse for the liberals, I see it as every other party has a chance to gain here in an election, because not even liberal voters like him anymore. And the NDP have no backbone , they made a deal with the devil and have nothing to show for it.

The federal government should be small, take care of borders, international treaties, the army and broad internal policies, guard the constitution, the RCMP ... but the big spending on health, education, so on and so forth (there is quite a lot of grey there) should be the province's place, and I want a smallish federal gvt' with my social services taken care at the other levels.
What's going on there is pure waste.

    • @eaa4773
      @eaa4773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I absolutely agree with you here. But centralists politicians continue to believe in an active and strong federal government. As an academic famously put, the problem is that the Federal government has the money, the provincial governments the power (most relevant jurisdictions), and the municipalities the responsabilities. This structural imbalance makes it difficult to see any level of government stick to its business...

Hey guys, so, I’m a Canadian expat living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for quite some years now. I just want to thank you greatly for the commentary and work you’re collectively doing. Your studied opinions and common sense commentary without a seemingly political agenda is a breath of fresh air in this changed world we live in. The way you guys tackle the issues at hand with a level headed and respectful approach should be a lesson to journalists everywhere. Seeing things from afar as I do I tend to think that Canadians have no idea how good they have it considering what goes on elsewhere globally. And of course you need to keep vigilant in the face of that downward spiral taking place everywhere, but it’s damn good to be grateful for what you have. And Canada has it! To be honest, living abroad has made me even more Canadian than ever. It has allowed me to appreciate and see what I find nowhere else. And I only wish that Canadians living at home, swimming in it, would see just how great you guys have it. I know it’s tough to see the air you breath, but stop and try once in a while.
So thank you three for the work you do. It adds to my Canadian dignity.
