  • In this episode, Preston gives an overview of what the Bible says about marriage and same-sex sexual relationships. He summarizes the historically Christian view in three points: 1) When the Bible talks about marriage, it says that sex difference is part of what marriage is; 2) When the Bible mentions same sex sexual relationships, it always prohibits them; 3) there has been a multiethnic, multidenominational, global, 2,000 year consensus among Christians on the first two points.

Great information presented from a compassionate and humble spirit. Thank you. Mike Winger does an in-depth study on Divorce and Remarriage which digs deep into some of the verses you quote.
I listen to your show all the time. Thank you for your ministry. It is one of the few that I feel I could safely share with people who are not yet followers of Christ.

Hi Preston, I would love to know if you’ve read Karen Keen’s book “Scripture ethics and the possibility of same-sex relationships”? She rebuttals a lot of the things you are saying and she too uses scripture to back it up. I would love to see her on your show for a friendly discussion!

Another book I've found interesting is Matthew Vines' book, God and the gay Christian.

Great work Preston - thanks so much. In addition to your comments about this not simply being your individual, white, straight, etc...interpretation - it is important to recognize that there are some significant works from people in the LGBTQ+ Christian community who also agree with you. Unfortunately, they too, often are shouted down and ostracized, not only by some church communities, but by many within the LGBTQ+ community as well. This puts them in some very tough spots. And yet, because they themselves are Gay or Lesbian or Trans etc., they have a certain added moral authority that needs to be respected. As some of these authors have written - (and I paraphrase) - "being gay and holding to the traditional Christian view of marriage and sexual ethics is not without pain."

Jesus' reference to Genesis in Matthew 19 is always something I struggle with, because I do not think he was referencing it for any other reason other than responding to divorce by referencing the very first example of marriage. But the context is about divorce and how what God brought together nobody should separate. I don't see this as an argument against homosexuality or even polygamy for that matter. What are your thoughts?

People need to read the Word. We need to have the correct worldview and therefore definitions. Renew your mind in the Word of God.
The enemy of your souls likes to change definitions.

My oldest child claims LGBTQ and through listening to friends has cut us off completely because they say we act a certain (mean hateful) way. Even though there is no evidence that can be pointed to of being mean and hateful. This part 1 was beautifully presented and I am eager for part 2+. I have been saying all along (since March 29 when we were told) Grace + Truth = Love. Omitting any element of that equation renders the whole thing impossible

He has posted things on discord that never happened, but the “friends” have said we are “supposed” to behave in a certain mean and unloving way. Traditional marriage is a female isnthe property of her father until she is the property of her husband? Why not talk about the whole truth?

@@garybarnes4084 Your sentiment that since women get to go to heaven that Christian culture promotes equality?
I am afraid that just hold up. Preachers are still openly calling for women to be silent, and some even suggest loss of suffrage.
The view of women as property isn't dead. Just not as acceptable.
There are still plenty of Christian female child brides right here in America. Certainly true across the world.

because Paul himself disrupts that tradition when he says in 1 Corinthians 7 that the husband's body belongs to the wife's. such a take would have been unheard of in the ancient world and extremely liberating for women. this is the same Paul that condemns same sex relationships and calls husbands to lay down their lives for their wives self-sacrificially.
