    Flags are GMB but i also use, Freezywater Flags, Flags of War and LBMS.

      Cheers fella, you may recognise the ensigns 😁 yeah my thinking is all the dust, smoke from guns etc, they wouldn't exactly be shining

    Nice, the drybrush does help make them look more like real cloth, less like modern synthetics

    Cheers, super helpful. I am about to put an HBC flag on a Blood & Plunder sloop, and was second guessing myself on a method. Love the beer cap idea. I may have one or two somehow show up in my house.

    I glue my flags in exactly the same way, but I paint the edges and inside borders before sticking them on to the poles. After folding, I highlight the raised folds.

    Nice work! I would never have thought to dry brush to add some wear to the flag. I had to slow the video down and examine it until I could see the brand of that brush. I ordered off Amazon UK. They should cross the pond in about 2 weeks!
    They look really useful. Thanks for the recommendation in action. 😃

    The painting the edge bit - easier to paint around the inside (white) edges before you glue and join the flag up. Only takes a jiffy too.

    Awesome, great effect. Interestingly it seems that the flags were held stiff in the air in case there wasn't a breeze, although having them fluttering looks way cooler. The Perrys talked about it in the huge Agincourt diorama video. I wish I didn't know this because now I have the dilemma: weird looking but historically accurate flags or cool dynamic ones...

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much 👍 Yeah i know what you mean, the eternal dilemma, rule of cool vs reality 😅 alot of the medieval ones had a batton at the top to help hold them stiff. The civil war ones were lighter and designed to be spun about so didn't have the extra bit on the flag pole, the ensigns go out and spin them about before the regiments engage, bit like this chap th-cam.com/video/cGQA-JNgNcE/w-d-xo.html

    • @dannyhalas9408
      @dannyhalas9408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@7thson726 Ha, that's amazing. I wondered if that was just for the mediaeval period and when it changed. I tried to look into it but all I could get on google was moon landing conspiracy videos. Apparently they used something called flax to stifffen the flags as well.
      I have to admit your video made me feel like a right twat for not realising that you could just paint the little white bits when the paper doesn't quite line up!

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dannyhalas9408 yeah medieval pageantry is a minefield, also depends on what type of banner it is 😅 is it a standard, livery banner or personal coat of arms
      I know what you mean, we all have that moment, i used to try and snip the white bits away... Was a disaster

    Why the varnish Martin?

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I add it to 1) add another layer of stiffness to the paper and 2) to prevent discolouration, eventually they will fade and the varniah helps prevent that 👍
