I am currently using the ddj-sx and looking to upgrade. I have a chance to get a ddj-sz1 with a case or a ddj 1000srt for the same price. Which would you choose?

We won a TAC award at NAMM this gear for best DJ gear of 2019 on the DDJ-1000. I haven't spoken about this much on my channel but let me share some points some folks including myself haven't spoken about.
It only costs $200 more than the DDJ-RX but with addition of dual USB and full size jogs like the DDJ-RZ
It is $800 less than the DDJ-RZ
It is slightly smaller and lighter than the RZ
It's a cheaper way to get most of the DJM-900 Nexus series mixer in terms of channels and effects
First Pioneer controller to use pressure sensitive jogs (less prone to interference)
First of it's kind jog wheel display that will be appearing on the future Pioneer gear (like the DDJ-800)
Just thought I'd share that because I think it's points that haven't been emphasized enough.

10 + Year Serato Faithful...bought the DDJ 400 to “dip my toe” into Rekordbox...one month later bought the 1000. Actually the day the 800 was announced (wanted to wait to see what was more my speed) and I echo your sentiments 100 percent. This controller is the BEST piece of gear I’ve EVER owned. Period. I got a smokin’ deal on it as well (Thanks Sweetwater!)
I haven’t had this much fun DJing in YEARS. Great video man, just subscribed. I enjoy like minded peers. Thanks for your real review of this amazing controller. I too wish I bought it in January of 2018! Cheers and happy mixing.

Excellent fun and informative video. Thanks for doing this. I just got the DDJ-1000 based on your video and some other research. I was mulling it over and Amazon suddenly put it on sale for $999 so I pounced. I’ve never used anything like this before-just Virtual DJ on Automix and plain old players and a mixer before that. I have a lot to learn!

Great, in-depth review as always Terry. I look forward to your videos, sharing your honest prospective. I’ve been using Serato and RB (thumb drive) for many years. RB has come a long way, Pioneer has invested a lot of time/research/money to make it a fully featured DJ software. However, to me the stone cold killer is going to be the Denon Prime 4 controller. I saw and spent time with it at NAMN and it’s amazing. Denon has truly listened to DJ’s and it exceeds expectations. The Prime Engine software is also very Intuitive and has a fantastic work flow. This is the future, Its going to force Pioneer to innovate. In the very near future the Prime 4 will be Serato and Virtual DJ compatible (with a laptop). Once released it will accept, all of the Serato meta data, queue points, folders, etc without external conversion making it very easy to convert.

Was browsing thru TH-cam and came upon your video.....Very good insight on the DDJ-1000!!!! I've had it for almost a year and it blew me away!!!! I always tell people who are used to Serato that Rekordbox is Serato on Steroids......It takes it bit of learning and I'm still finding out different things on it, but it is a very good program!!!! The DDJ-1000 has made alot of us who cannot fork up the 6 Grand for the nexus system very happy.

I know you’re missing those mid band eqs on the mic channels.
Here’s a tip you may or may not know.
If you want to boost the mids, turn the lows and highs down and turn the gain UP.
If you want to drop the mids, turn the low and highs up and the gain DOWN.
It’s all relative, so this gives you nearly the same eq curves.
    Enjoy!

  • @priyonjoni
    @priyonjoni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh also, sorry to keep commenting, but the positioning of the 3rd microphone on an SX3's front; the reasoning behind it is that it is easier to access if you needed to quickly add a 3rd microphone. Reaching to the back can be tricky and sometimes risky during a gig. Let's say the MC has one mic, and the best man is doing a speech with the other, but you had to quickly make an announcement. You can quickly plug a microphone and do a quick blurb, and easily disconnect it. The front wire sticking out can be remedied with an L cable or an L adapter. I get it's not the most preferred way, but that's why you have channels 3 and 4 for the other ones.

Thank you for this. I'm considering switching from Serato to Rekordbox due to this controller. It really has everything I want/need in a controller. I've been djing jungle/drum and bass since 96 and was vinyl only until maybe 2005 or 2006. I took some time off from djing from 2010-2020 but now am back and streaming 2-3x week on Twitch while in lockdown. Ive been using a Numark MixDeck Express because it can function without a laptop which had me considering the Denon Prime 4 as an upgrade. However, I'm leaning more towards the DDJ-1000 because, if/when things get back to normal I want to be more familiar with what's in all the clubs these days. Thank you for such an in-depth review. I've already seen enough about the DDJ-1000SRT that it's not even a consideration anymore. Pioneer clearly wants people using Rekordbox.

Hi Cleveland Terry, I couldn’t agree more, I’m a long time mobile dj, still got the sx2, used serato for years, but I bought the DJ 1000, around 8 months ago and WOW, different level from the sx2, now fully moved over to RB and use that solely for my wedding/birthday gigs etc, (I do use vdj for karaoke with a dj2go2 controller) I cant bring myself to sell the sx2 yet? Dunno why, nostalgia? perhaps because I used serato for so long, it’s like your favorite old pair of sneakers!, but I never play out with it. Great vlog as always. Keep em coming. From. You're very right. Pioneer is beyond done with serato. I'm sure they will crap out some obligatory controllers for it still, but it's obvious with the "club standard" layouts they are using that they want you to feel burdened by using anything which isn't pioneer.
I really appreciate the reviews. Screw the haters. It is, definitely, what you do with whatever software you use. Which is why you need the one you like best. Way easier to have fun and play a good dj set if you enjoy what you're doing it on. Some prefer a straightforward experience (serato), some prefer a fair deal of customization (rekordbox), some want to hack the hell out of it (traktor), and some like the most cutting edge features and/or ugly appearances (vdj).
I am even looking forward to your rekordbox review, even though I already chose to use that as my primary software, lol.

I use it regularly for gigs.

nice talking points terry. i grabbed the ddj1000 the month it came out. i used to be on the traktor side of the fence with my s4mk2. i agree that the jog wheels on the ddj1000 will not make you miss your turntables, but i bought the dvs option just to have it. what is weird with the dvs though is that it does not enable you to emulate the tt stop sound when pressing the start/stop button on the 1200. traktor has a better implementation on this.
moving from traktor to rekordbox was a bit of a pain at first as i didnt have rekordbuddy, but it made me trim down my collection (as i had to rebuild it from scratch) to the bare essentials. one year later and i am still enjoying this controller. best jog wheels on the market! i also agree that if you could save up for the 1000, get it instead of the 800. the magvel fader is not on the 800.
btw, if you scratch a lot, then do skin your controller, at least for the mixer section. the acrylic top scratches very easily! even if you use the smoothest cloth to wipe it, you will introduce microscratches on it. the crossfader part of my ddj1000 looks bad now because of this. cheers!

Great video! I personally don't think pioneer is moving away from Serato. I feel pioneer has created a monopoly in the DJ industry. No what they will be relevant. They still benefit from serato with the dedicated serato controllers. And Rekordbox DJ works with most pioneer serato controllers. With the release of the 400, 1000 and now the 800 more people will discover Rekordbox DJ. It is brilliant that they only work for Rekordbox DJ.
    They win no matter what.
I also have the 1000 and the sx2. Rekkordbox is awsom. The only feature I wish Rekordbox has is flip.

Unless you want to use turntables and also play analog vinyl with it.
The built - in pre-amps are probably worst on the market for this scenario.
As officialy stated by Pioneer: "..the pre-amps are for digital signal / DVS. For analog buy and use external RIAA pre-amps".
      Really? On a 1000€ controller?

I own a DDJ-RX since 5 years and use it with rekordbox. I am super happy with it, but I tested the DDJ-1000 last Friday and it is sooo nice..
What do you guys think?.. Does it make sense to sell my DDJ-RX and buy a DDJ-1000, or should I better wait for Pioneer to bring out a replacement of the DDJ-1000?
It's so hard for me to decide, because the controller's release is already 2 years ago now...

Brand new to DJing and want an entry level 4 channel DJ mixer. Questions for you! How is the video functionality in Rekordbox? I want to add an element of Video DJ output to my mixes. Second question, If I decided to stick with Serato is the DDJ-1000SRT just as good as this? Thanks and awesome video.

Nice review Cleveland Terry. I have one question for you, i have been using virtual dj on my computer for about 9 years now, never used a DJ controller before. Now my question to you is what do you recommend DDJ 1000 or the DDJ-1000SRT ? So far this is the two of my choice that I am looking at right now. Thanks in advance.

Mine has the glitch where the cross fader does not center right. upgraded to the latest firmware still way off. makes scraching or cross fader mixing useless. Been putting off sending off to repair for awhile but it must be done before the warranty expires. damn shame. I gotta go without it for a few weeks and pay before shipping. after dealing with USB dropouts from my ns7ii i was hoping pioneer would do better. Nope disappointing :(

Yes by far ddj1000 still the best controller out there... to really understand and agree what we ddj 1000 owners are saying... just try one before arguing... all those who tried will tell you the same... it's the best... only thing missing is standalone features like denon prime 4 but the 4 channels mixer on the ddj1000 is standalone... good for now until next beast comes out!

I might consider buying this where I am in London, UK seems to be the controller to get today still
I don't really DJ on midi controllers , I have DDJ 400 entry thing and it seems ok , I'm more Technics or vinyl plus cdj 2000 DJ
Never been fan of all in one combi products
Rekordbox DJ is amazing tho I have to say , being club DJ I can prep DJ set then play in club or bar on cdj 2000 nexus off usb with how I set it up in the rekordbox DJ app
Not fan of rekordbox DJ DVS tho on Technics turntables as such with their timecode vinyl , but I found that using Serato timecode vinyl on Rekordbox DJ yes lol with Technics is perfect , pitch , mixing etc it really works but you only have rel mode not abs

I been using Pioneer DDJ-SZ a quite a while. Cool thing about this controller can run up to 4+ dj softwares. Serato Dj, Pro, Rekordbox, Traktor Pro 2,3 and Virtual Dj. Pioneer DDJ-SZ2 only Serato dj Pro. DDJ-SZ and SZ2 have the same quality as Pioneer DDJ-1000. I didn't bother upgrade to DDJ-1000. Even though DDJ-1000 has more effects and some other stuff. I only used certain effects anyway. Love the controller. U mention Pioneer my not continue Serato. I think ur right ! I have a hunch lol Pioneer may come out two more Serato controllers. That be it. My guess be Pioneer DDJ-SZ3 and Pioneer DDJ-SZX. Hoping anyway lol.

    Caution:
DDJ-1000 has pre-amps that are absolutely not suited to play analog vinyl!
    A real shame for 1000 € controller.
You can find a lot about this issue and it's officially confirmed by Pioneer.
The pre-amps are for DVS / time code. If you want to use the controller with analog vinyl, Pioneer suggests to buy and use external RIAA pre-amps.
Shame for cheaping out on the pre-ams. A 200 € Xone 23 has MUCH better sound with analog vinyl.

Bro I had my Denon Prime for a week now. The Prime engine is sooooooo far behind what it should be compared to other softwares. This would not be so bad if you could correct the bpm on the machine. With the Prime being standalone you would figure that would be a no brainer. so if you load a new track on the fly and want to give it a play, and the Prime recognized th bpm wrong (which its super prone to do) you gotta go back to your computer. How is that standing alone? lol i hate product features that hinge on a technicality.

I also waited almost a year.
i have a ddi sx2 and finally ordered a ddj1000 ...BUT I touched the pitch fader of the ddj100 and was shocked how it felt like. I feels just cheap... plastic.
and also the jogwheels feel cheap. If they were like those on the RZ or SZ I would totally go for it. But for me those jogs are just feeling awful. With this feeling I won't be ever jealous of a CDJ setup with those Jogwheels again.
The jogwheels on the SX2 are also made from plastic but feel waayyy better.
I have to admit. When you mix with the DDJ 1000 you forget about the haptic quite easily because it is so much fun. But when you stop and come back you have to get used to it again.
I love all the features of the DDJ 1000 but all the plastic do not convince me to pay over 1000 Euros for this.
    nope. Could have been perfect.

Looking for a new controller. My SX2 is starting to have issues... Platter won't let me scratch consistently, randomly stops playing tracks,.etc. Will probably go with 1000SRT, as it appears 1000 Rekordbox doesn't work with SoundSwitch DMX lighting control. As a one man show, Serato and SoundSwitch make a professional look and sound simple.

I'm so interested in getting the ddJ-1000. Just as you mention it provide you with a very close felling to what a CDJ will be but Portable and with a mixer included for a much affordable price tag. So can you tell me how it feel if you want to scratch. I use turntable at home and for the road I normally use a DDJ-sx2. Do you think Pioneer will come with the same model but stand alone? I would love a DDJ-1000 stand alone with spinning platter. It may never happen.

I would get the DDJ-1000 the only thing stopping me is Rekordbox doesn't support Windows media audio (wma) files. I use a laptop not a Mac so I don't have access to record buddy yet either. I hope they update Rekordbox to support wma someday.

I just bought the DDJ1000-SRT so it was a little hard to watch @11:13 I know you made this last year but man if you would've waited a little while it could've saved you a few dollars. I'm guessing they gave in and made a Serato version because of the complaints from customers who didn't want to make the transition to RecordBox. Great video and info though and if you did end up getting the SRT how do you like it compared to the 1000?

  • @zetrollolololol4163

DDJ1000 is a waste still. Pioneer try and fuck you every which way to make you buy different products.
Why dont they just make an all in one independent 4 channel controller with cdj sized platters, all the features from the sx3 and the build quality of the 2000s. Make it work with rekordbox traktor and serato or just on its own. They wont because its the only product anyone will buy or use. They are screwing everyone as it stands...

Great video. I have the DDJ-SX2 and really wanted the DDJ-1000 when it came out last year but I have big problem, and that is I'm a Windows user and Rekord Buddy 2 is only available for MAC OS right now. My library with all the cue points, saved loops, etc would all have to be redone if I wanted to get the DDJ-1000. That would take me HOURS.....hell, maybe a solid week to be honest. Just don't really want to do that.
