I almost bought the SX3, but went with the older SX2 because it was compatible with all DJ software such as Djay Pro (windows), Traktor, Serato, and Rekordbox. I like having the flexibility to use all the programs instead of just being tied to one or two programs. Eventually I'll move to a standalone controller though.
I had the SX3, and sold it to buy the 1000srt, and absolutely love it. It’s a game changer for me. I used Serato with turntables for years, and using the SX3 felt like a toy and gave me no joy. I like that the jog wheels are similar to vinyl and the same as the CDJ club standard. I love the on-board pioneer effects that ARE post fader, sound great and are easy to access, so I don’t care about the Serato effects. And it just looks sexy. I didn’t like the small capacitive touch jog wheels on the SX3. But if you live them, then the SX3 could be for you because it does have a couple features the 1000srt doesn’t have that werent mentioned in the video. The SX3 actually has 3 mics which is nice and has the cross fader curve adjustment handy on the edge of the controller, and needle search (although I prefer the beat jump buttons on the 1000srt). I never used the original 1000 but since it’s made by pioneer, I’m sure they found ways to even more integrate their Recordbox software to the hardware. But that also doesn’t matter to me, because I love Serato and have no reason to switch (lots of DJs that switched to recordbox was only to get to use the 1000). If you like DJing by turntables and/or want to be used to the standard club setup in case you might DJ in a club in the future, and you like Serato, the 1000srt is unbeatable.
Bentley Springer thanks. I’ve been debating on which one to get since I used to dj with Technics and Rane mixer with Serato. Sounds like the 1000srt is the way to go.

There really needs to be a Pioneer DDJ-800SRT for those of us who use Serato and have no use for 4 channels, I do not want to pay the extra money for 2 channels I would never use and the extra size 4 channels require does not appeal as it makes the unit less portable. If Pioneer can make a 1000SRT it probably would not be difficult to produce the 800 Serato version and offer a wider product range.
Just bought the DDJ-SRT and I love it. I had the DDJ-SX2 for about 3 years but I sold it last year because I was using turntables more. I felt that the jog wheels on the sx2 were too small and I wasn't using it as much as I used my turntables. I always wanted CDJ's but can't afford them and now that the DDJ-SRT came out I had to get it because it was close enough. The 1000 for record box is nice too but I don't use record box.
@matteos2008 I myself think it is but some people have different opinion. I think it's a matter of preference. What works for one person my not work for another. If you can go somewhere to try it out like guitar center, you could do that just to be sure that you want to make the investment.
when using Serato, SX3 is perfect. layout is the screen reflected. IF you are using serato like 100%, SX3 is king. SRT1000 , now, if you don't scratch often, or dont at all, i do not see why getting this is a much better option. WHy do we need to get another external effects unit just to add to the lackluster? it does not make any sense. not even post fader. the SRT 1000 , in my opinion, is a hybrid , a crossover controller when you want serato, but are torn between stand alone CDJs. case in point, if you are a 100% serato user, SX3 is the one to use. If you are crossing over Serato to CDJs, the SRT1000 is the one for you. thats it.

I have the SX3 for about over a year it has 3 mic great for mobile dj also the search pad add having the software effect on the knobs give you and unlimited amount of effect with available packs. From Serato not to knock the SRT1000 but I played 3 gigs with it I was not a fan I think Pioneer just wanted so sell something else so serato users but didn't think it threw all the way. My humble opinion
Didn’t mean to offend anyone that like the SX line. It’s definitely a solid line packed with features without being in a large form-factor. Because I’ve been DJing for a long time and only recently entered the world of controllers, I’ve built up skill around muscle memory manipulating platters, turntables and CDJ’s (that are often in clubs) that have a weighted mechanical motor feel. Because of that, the capacitive touch feature in the SX and common on many other controllers doesn’t feel as ‘real’ to me and doesn’t leverage my muscle memory and has the effect of feeling something like the difference between a real car steering wheel and a touch-sensitive digital steering wheel. This will not be the experience for any DJ that predominantly uses capacitive-touch controllers, it can be the difference between moving back and forth between a capacitive-touch controller and DJing with CDJs in a club. I also love that the platter and mixer layout of my DDJ1000 srt is very similar to the club setup of CDJs and DJM pioneer mixer but at a fraction of the cost. Love it!
I had the SRT for a couple days and I thought it was the worst controller I ever owned. I also have the Rekordbox version 1000 and it’s night and day. Pioneer did not make the Serato version as well-made and feature rich. I suggest people just get the SX3 or if you don’t mind the size go for the SZ2
Digital DJ Tips Yes plenty of things. The Serato Auto BPM detection on the controller is horrible in the beat effects. I hate how they have a preparatory power adapter that’s not easily replaceable. Also not having post fader affects in this day and age is unheard of. I love to layer Serato effects and I would have to buy a whole nother controller to access them but even if I did that they still won’t be post fader. I don’t understand why pioneer did that considering the original 1000 for recorkbox is post fader. In my opinion they seduced all the Serato users with mechanical jog wheels but really left the good features for rekordbox users. I feel like I was swindled because they actually charge you more for this one.

This cleared up any doubt I had about getting the 1000SRT or the 1000 (SX3 was never on my radar as I already have an SX). I shifted from SX to full fledged CDJs and DJM Nexus with rekordbox. Even though I can use the SX with rekordbox (and Serato) in a pinch, the brain-dead easy post fader effects on the 1000 is a no brainier for me plus the jogwheels and streamline use of Rekordbox across controllers and CDJs makes my life lots easier, especially knowing I can even plug my CDJs and control vinyl into it and know I'll be able to apply the hardware fx on it...and it still be post fader. Plus, I'm partial to the pioneer fx sound profile than Serato anyway (though I still think Serato fx sound way better than Traktor). Mini rant but thank you for this video! Made my decision lots easier now.
I just bought a XDJ-RX2 so I can get use to the whole Rekordbox ecosystem and be ready to play in clubs when the moment strikes, but I still have my DDJ-SX2 and Serato as backup. Still love it to this day, but if it conks out on me, I'll definitely be getting an SX3 just off familiarity!
Why don’t buy srt1000? Bcs its have 4 channel and also the effects its same rights? But srt have bonus easy use the pad for a lot effect u can doing not like rx2? Correct if im wrong. Bcs i’ve xdj rx1 and want change into the srt 1000. Because im tired play 2 channel
@@zios1525 just for familiarity purposes tbh. And I like having the two channel RX2 since I don't really use 4 channels all that much (unless it's for the occasional Acapella)
If you play out or want to play out at mid to large sized clubs, go with the SRT. It will train your muscle memory to navigate a CDJ/DJM setup. I have a Nexus 2 kit (CDJ, DJM, DJS) which I use to warm up prior to playing out. I’m in the process of selling that kit because the feel is very similar. With the SRT, I also use an SP1 to get better access to the loop features and Serato effects (not being post fader does suck though). The SRT controller is not perfect but it’s a very good controller for the money.
@@MrMigz01 the frequency of the effects is not cut off immediately, means it has delay when quick fader down or Crossfade cutoff. Example when adding delay on track, if it is not post fade, it will cut off the track and delay effect. Also some freezing effects.
It means you can engage an echo, cut the fader, and the echo will continue until it is finished without unnaturally cutting off when you cut the fader.
The comment is silly. If you can mix then you can mix on anything. I learned on vinyl 20 years ago technics and a numark mixer. Also alot of djm-600 mixer. I can mix on any controller just fine and cdjs. Doesn't matter the brand or if its mechanical or capacitive jog wheel. Maybe take 2 mins to figure the lay out then its on. I played out in clubs and raves and bars way before i ever touched a controller or cdj. I have the DDJ -SX3 and i freaking love it. Best piece of mixing equipment i ever used. Professional quality Definitely doesnt feel like a toy. I had the SB previous and that felt like a toy.
Nice comparison!!! At the time, I was thinking about getting the 1000 SRT but what sucks about it is the lank of physical adjustments like the crossfader. You actually have to go into Serato to adjust it!!! NOPE 👎🏾. I suck with my SX3 and been using it since.
I'm looking to upgrade from my DDJ-400. I do parties with my 400 but I hate getting that look like oh he's got a baby DJ controller until I start playing then people see I'm serious. Just think the upgrade would be more attractive and bring in more clientele.
Go with the DDJ-800, you'll be able to control 4 decks, have a aux input and have 2 controlled mic inputs. I got the DDJ-RR 3 months before the 800 came out, if I knew I would have waited. Good luck.
Who cares what people think man as long as you rock the house. my friend just killed a party on an sb3! I loved my sb3 when I first started before I upgraded to the sx3. I might get another one just because it's so portable and convenient!
Thanks, I appreciate your review! I love playing on the SX3 and I've become accustomed to the flow of the hardware as it relates to Serato, but I've never liked the jog wheels. They just don't feel as good as the mechanical wheels. Scratching on the Vestax VCI 380 felt better than the SX3 imo. I'm on the fence about diving into the Rane One controller. I wasn't a fan of the Numark motorized platters and I didn't give the Rane 12's a fair try so I'm hesitant to jump to the One without testing them out. CDJ wheels still feel like the best option outside of my Technics.

You mentioned to listen to vinyl directly, but I read the sound is terrible on DDJ1000SRT. What do you think of the quality compared to turntable directly to a club mixer? I currently have DDJSX2 and the sound is so flat I ended up not using it for vinyl listening.
mine never scratched or scuffed, but since I bought it I 've been having a problem with the left jog wheel becoming non-responsive sometimes while I'm scratching or beat juggling, so instead of it following my hand it just keeps playing the track. Needless to say, this is a set killer. I'm debating whether or not I should get the srt1000 and the Ranes, because I can't afford the seventy-two yet, or just get the Ranes and use them with my SX3. I want to be able to use the controller alone sometimes and I don't enjoy the jog wheel ceasing to work in the middle of a scratch session.
Both are great controllers. In my opinion. If you scratch: sx3 If you use Serato or Virtual DJ: sx3 If you rent gear for parties/djs: 1k SRT Clubbing: 1k SRT If you're on a budget: sx3 If you want to pretend you are a worlds famous DJ: 1k SRT
This is just my opinion! I feel most DJ will be sold on the DDJ 1000srt more. The 2 reasons are: The layout is just like the flagship Pioneer Nexus 2 CDJs and mixer. It's Serato based controller. The DDJ SX3 won't be needed for much longer and it will fade out slowly. I also think this will be the last time Pioneer does any for Serato. I believe going forward all their new hardware will be Rekordbox based.
Was about a few months in of being released ... Depending where and when ya got it... You could bring it to a pioneer service center or mail it in to them. If you purchased it from a authorized pioneer retailer depending on the return period of the store you probably could have returned it.

I'm sorry but if you're a DJ that has used a lot of different gear, then you already know that the post fader software effects control on the SX3 is undoubtedly a game changer and deal breaker when it comes to the traditional Nexus mixer style controllers and ones of the SX series that have the Serato software effects controls right there on the top

I did a sound comparision last night between the Denon X1800, DJM750 mk2, DDJ-RX and DDJ1000 (all at 44.1hz). Used the rekordbox software from a MACpro and external sources from the xdj-1000mk2 and SC5000. Each mixer (or controller) was set to an external source and when the signal levels approached clipping (two yellow bars) a dedicated media player as the audio source had cleaner signal with punchier bass and crispers highs . All four audio cards sounded exactly the same when processed audio was strickly coming from the software on all four mixers. Software will not clean up a clipped digital signal the way a larger mixer does, so STAY IN THE GREEN and use/buy whatever you can afford until you can afford a deadicated pro setup with a larger power supply, and higher end DSP chips. I swapped between the QSC 12.2, Yamaha DXR15, and KRKs when monitoring.

I think you're misunderstanding, the issue with the DDJ-1000SRT is that it has hardware FX (built in) and you can't access the Serato FX unless you use the mouse or another midi controller
Simple - they don't! This isn't what you'd choose if random DJs stopping by for a mix is a common occurrence - you buy an XDJ XZ instead or a CDJ setup
Our top recommendation would be the Roland 707m, if you want Pioneer then any of the top end Pioneer controllers (SX3, DDJ-1000srt etc) will be fine for mobile gigs
I actually think the jogwheels are a drawback on the 1000. I really don't like the way mechanical jogwheels feel, they're far too plasticky & cheap and the movement feels weird. Capacitive jogwheels are far superior IMO, the movement is way smoother and the metallic feel on top further adds to the build quality.
Thanks for weighing in Travis, interesting to hear as for a lot of people mechanical jogwheels are a preference (you wonder how much of that is because the "expensive" ones have them though)
@@digitaldjtips I think that's exactly it, many people just prefer it because it's the club standard. I believe Denon use capacitive across their range so, once I eventually swap my controller for players in the distant future, I think I'll opt for Denon SCs over Pioneer CDJs! I really wish Denon would be the club standard, they're killing it with their products nowadays.
I must agree here, I worked both with CDJs (850, 900, 2000) and the DDJ-SX1 and I definetly prefer the capacitive jogwheels. They are so smooth and silent, their metal look and surface also please me! Do I miss anything specific about mechanical jogwheel, especially when I barely sratch? DDTips, maybe you have an article you can recommend me to read?

Sx3 has 2 channel mics that utilize channels 3 and 4 ... The independent mic is on the face of the unit. On the 1000SRT you have independent mic 1 and 2 controls on the top left corner.
There is a DDJ1000 mapping available for Traktor on Dj Techtools, but the Jog wheels will always lag using MIDI protocal. To me Traktor is by far the cleanest of all the software programs (strickly audio). The sad fact that its resource hungry, LAGS my spec'd out MACpro, and the file management/GUI (graphic user interface) is garbage is a deal breaker. I wish Stems/Remix decks would of taken off, but if your producing live your using ABLETON.
Shadie2k Tv that would be an interesting comparison to do as well. We marched the 1000SRT with the SX3 because they are closer in price than the 1000SRT and the SZ.
@@digitaldjtips So sorry for the late response; The "SX3" is okay, but it just feels like a toy compared to the SRT. Same price point but can't make your own loops the deck decides where it starts the loop for the most part, capacitor jog wheels. I'd honestly recommend the FLX over the SX3
New pioneer controlers (ddj 1000, 800) have less functions than older controlers (ddj rz, sz, rzx, rx, sx, rr, sr...) Looping is better on older controlers and there is rec, play, slot sampler buttons, touch strip... 2 fx slots and you can have 6 fx in the same time... I regret selling ddj rz and buyin ddj 800. Older controlers have better functions!
Honestly, the SX3 is just ugly. It isn't a good layout, it feels clunky to use, and it looks unattractive. The mirrored mixer setup, the crappy faders, and the bad jog wheels just scream everything that makes DJs not like controllers. The 1000 does not. It is virtually indistinguishable compared to a Nexus setup in layout and features

I like the more traditional layout of the pioneer ddj sx3, but i do like the sound color effects offered on ddj-1000SRT. Great comparison video!

a big mistake of the ddj1000, is that it does not bring a touch strip, it is more comfortable to look for the point you want in the song

I just bought a XDJ-RX2 so I can get use to the whole Rekordbox ecosystem and be ready to play in clubs when the moment strikes, but I still have my DDJ-SX2 and Serato as backup. Still love it to this day, but if it conks out on me, I'll definitely be getting an SX3 just off familiarity!

Why don’t buy srt1000? Bcs its have 4 channel and also the effects its same rights? But srt have bonus easy use the pad for a lot effect u can doing not like rx2? Correct if im wrong. Bcs i’ve xdj rx1 and want change into the srt 1000. Because im tired play 2 channel

The great thing about the 1000 Is obviously the Jogs and mixer section. Great for a miniature club setup.

If you play out or want to play out at mid to large sized clubs, go with the SRT. It will train your muscle memory to navigate a CDJ/DJM setup. I have a Nexus 2 kit (CDJ, DJM, DJS) which I use to warm up prior to playing out. I’m in the process of selling that kit because the feel is very similar. With the SRT, I also use an SP1 to get better access to the loop features and Serato effects (not being post fader does suck though). The SRT controller is not perfect but it’s a very good controller for the money.

@@MrMigz01 the frequency of the effects is not cut off immediately, means it has delay when quick fader down or Crossfade cutoff. Example when adding delay on track, if it is not post fade, it will cut off the track and delay effect. Also some freezing effects.
It means you can engage an echo, cut the fader, and the echo will continue until it is finished without unnaturally cutting off when you cut the fader.
The comment is silly. If you can mix then you can mix on anything. I learned on vinyl 20 years ago technics and a numark mixer. Also alot of djm-600 mixer. I can mix on any controller just fine and cdjs. Doesn't matter the brand or if its mechanical or capacitive jog wheel. Maybe take 2 mins to figure the lay out then its on. I played out in clubs and raves and bars way before i ever touched a controller or cdj. I have the DDJ -SX3 and i freaking love it. Best piece of mixing equipment i ever used. Professional quality Definitely doesnt feel like a toy. I had the SB previous and that felt like a toy.
Nice comparison!!! At the time, I was thinking about getting the 1000 SRT but what sucks about it is the lank of physical adjustments like the crossfader. You actually have to go into Serato to adjust it!!! NOPE 👎🏾. I suck with my SX3 and been using it since.

I'm looking to upgrade from my DDJ-400. I do parties with my 400 but I hate getting that look like oh he's got a baby DJ controller until I start playing then people see I'm serious. Just think the upgrade would be more attractive and bring in more clientele.
Go with the DDJ-800, you'll be able to control 4 decks, have a aux input and have 2 controlled mic inputs. I got the DDJ-RR 3 months before the 800 came out, if I knew I would have waited. Good luck.
Who cares what people think man as long as you rock the house. my friend just killed a party on an sb3! I loved my sb3 when I first started before I upgraded to the sx3. I might get another one just because it's so portable and convenient!

Thanks, I appreciate your review! I love playing on the SX3 and I've become accustomed to the flow of the hardware as it relates to Serato, but I've never liked the jog wheels. They just don't feel as good as the mechanical wheels. Scratching on the Vestax VCI 380 felt better than the SX3 imo. I'm on the fence about diving into the Rane One controller. I wasn't a fan of the Numark motorized platters and I didn't give the Rane 12's a fair try so I'm hesitant to jump to the One without testing them out. CDJ wheels still feel like the best option outside of my Technics.
The VCI 380 is awesome, we still use it from time to time :)

Was gonna purchase the 1000... but after hearing about all the features the sx3 has over the 1000 plus its cheaper in price I'm now interested in the sx3. You mentioned to listen to vinyl directly, but I read the sound is terrible on DDJ1000SRT. What do you think of the quality compared to turntable directly to a club mixer? I currently have DDJSX2 and the sound is so flat I ended up not using it for vinyl listening.
Im fine with my SX3, Just wish the jog wheels didnt "scratch/scuffed" up so easily.

mine never scratched or scuffed, but since I bought it I 've been having a problem with the left jog wheel becoming non-responsive sometimes while I'm scratching or beat juggling, so instead of it following my hand it just keeps playing the track. Needless to say, this is a set killer. I'm debating whether or not I should get the srt1000 and the Ranes, because I can't afford the seventy-two yet, or just get the Ranes and use them with my SX3. I want to be able to use the controller alone sometimes and I don't enjoy the jog wheel ceasing to work in the middle of a scratch session.
Both are great controllers. In my opinion.
If you scratch: sx3
If you use Serato or Virtual DJ: sx3
If you rent gear for parties/djs: 1k SRT
Clubbing: 1k SRT
If you're on a budget: sx3
If you want to pretend you are a worlds famous DJ: 1k SRT

This is just my opinion! I feel most DJ will be sold on the DDJ 1000srt more. The 2 reasons are: The layout is just like the flagship Pioneer Nexus 2 CDJs and mixer. It's Serato based controller. The DDJ SX3 won't be needed for much longer and it will fade out slowly. I also think this will be the last time Pioneer does any for Serato. I believe going forward all their new hardware will be Rekordbox based.
I'm moving to Rane, though I do want the srt1000. I love my SX3 though, aside from a jog wheel glitch I keep having.

Was about a few months in of being released ... Depending where and when ya got it... You could bring it to a pioneer service center or mail it in to them. If you purchased it from a authorized pioneer retailer depending on the return period of the store you probably could have returned it.

I'm sorry but if you're a DJ that has used a lot of different gear, then you already know that the post fader software effects control on the SX3 is undoubtedly a game changer and deal breaker when it comes to the traditional Nexus mixer style controllers and ones of the SX series that have the Serato software effects controls right there on the top

I did a sound comparision last night between the Denon X1800, DJM750 mk2, DDJ-RX and DDJ1000 (all at 44.1hz). Used the rekordbox software from a MACpro and external sources from the xdj-1000mk2 and SC5000. Each mixer (or controller) was set to an external source and when the signal levels approached clipping (two yellow bars) a dedicated media player as the audio source had cleaner signal with punchier bass and crispers highs . All four audio cards sounded exactly the same when processed audio was strickly coming from the software on all four mixers. Software will not clean up a clipped digital signal the way a larger mixer does, so STAY IN THE GREEN and use/buy whatever you can afford until you can afford a deadicated pro setup with a larger power supply, and higher end DSP chips. I swapped between the QSC 12.2, Yamaha DXR15, and KRKs when monitoring.

I think you're misunderstanding, the issue with the DDJ-1000SRT is that it has hardware FX (built in) and you can't access the Serato FX unless you use the mouse or another midi controller

Our top recommendation would be the Roland 707m, if you want Pioneer then any of the top end Pioneer controllers (SX3, DDJ-1000srt etc) will be fine for mobile gigs

I actually think the jogwheels are a drawback on the 1000. I really don't like the way mechanical jogwheels feel, they're far too plasticky & cheap and the movement feels weird. Capacitive jogwheels are far superior IMO, the movement is way smoother and the metallic feel on top further adds to the build quality.

@@digitaldjtips I think that's exactly it, many people just prefer it because it's the club standard. I believe Denon use capacitive across their range so, once I eventually swap my controller for players in the distant future, I think I'll opt for Denon SCs over Pioneer CDJs! I really wish Denon would be the club standard, they're killing it with their products nowadays.
I must agree here, I worked both with CDJs (850, 900, 2000) and the DDJ-SX1 and I definetly prefer the capacitive jogwheels. They are so smooth and silent, their metal look and surface also please me! Do I miss anything specific about mechanical jogwheel, especially when I barely sratch? DDTips, maybe you have an article you can recommend me to read?

By that logic, the DDJ 1000 has 4
Sx3 has 2 channel mics that utilize channels 3 and 4 ... The independent mic is on the face of the unit.
On the 1000SRT you have independent mic 1 and 2 controls on the top left corner.
Also, nobody needs 3 mics. If you want rock a MC battle, you do not buy a SX anyway.

There is a DDJ1000 mapping available for Traktor on Dj Techtools, but the Jog wheels will always lag using MIDI protocal. To me Traktor is by far the cleanest of all the software programs (strickly audio). The sad fact that its resource hungry, LAGS my spec'd out MACpro, and the file management/GUI (graphic user interface) is garbage is a deal breaker. I wish Stems/Remix decks would of taken off, but if your producing live your using ABLETON.

@@digitaldjtips So sorry for the late response; The "SX3" is okay, but it just feels like a toy compared to the SRT. Same price point but can't make your own loops the deck decides where it starts the loop for the most part, capacitor jog wheels. I'd honestly recommend the FLX over the SX3
New pioneer controlers (ddj 1000, 800) have less functions than older controlers (ddj rz, sz, rzx, rx, sx, rr, sr...) Looping is better on older controlers and there is rec, play, slot sampler buttons, touch strip... 2 fx slots and you can have 6 fx in the same time... I regret selling ddj rz and buyin ddj 800. Older controlers have better functions!
The new controllers are designed to replicate club gear at the expense of the more deep software features

Honestly, the SX3 is just ugly. It isn't a good layout, it feels clunky to use, and it looks unattractive. The mirrored mixer setup, the crappy faders, and the bad jog wheels just scream everything that makes DJs not like controllers. The 1000 does not. It is virtually indistinguishable compared to a Nexus setup in layout and features
A bit harsh towards the SX3 I think but ultimately it's all down to personal preference :)

Nah, mine is sitting on my desk right now and trust me, it neither looks nor feels like a toy! It didn't cost toy money either!
