    Yeah Mugen was actually colder for not killing her. He knows how she clings to people to care for her.
    She clinged to her bro, then tried mugen, then this other guy who she manipulated to kill her bro if Jin didnt.
    So leaving her alone with no money (and no way to get gold) with no one stronger to lean on would leave her to suffer. Killing her as she wished wouldve been quicker and easier hence why she asked for death.
    She manipulated Mugen, her bro, Jin, and even the other guy. Without someone to manipulate she is weak and he knows it.

    He didn't even need to slay her. He left her alone, with nobody in the world. He left her to suffer by herself. Much worse than just killing her. Fucking Stone Cold Killer; Definitely one of my favorite moments in the show.

    38:18 - 38:26 : Here's some info that I've picked up throughout the years after Samurai Champloo came out.
    Mugen is from the Ryukyu Islands (he says so himself in ep 1 and it comes up again during this two parter), which stretch from southwest Japan towards (and very close to) Taiwan, Okinawa probably being the most well know. Ryukyu was even its own kingdom (with its capital in Okinawa) and tributary to China for a time.
    The official artbook, Samurai Champloo Roman Album, further indicates that Mugen is from Miyako (itself a group of islands and also the name of the main island). This was a place where Okinawa/The Ryukyu Kingdom would exile its criminals (so not actually a penal colony and definitely not a Japanese/Tokugawa shogunate one; it already had an established native population that then had to deal with a criminal population being introduced to it). The mud and leaves covered people that Mugen has visions of while near death are also confirmed to be the Paantu, which are deities in Miyako religion. Typically, they chase away evil and bring good fortune, so why does he see them while dying? Shrug, maybe they're trying to help him rather than ferry him to the afterlife

      There's definitely a lot of historical context that makes that makes a rewatch all the more necessary. (ie. Fu and the sunflower samurai.)

    I was waiting for these two episodes. They were a window into who Mugen really is, and why he is the way he is. He is from, like you put it, 'crime island'. He isn't that bad of a person, or wouldn't be, but his life has been one of betrayals, survival and using or being used. That is all he has ever known. Relying on someone else has never ended well for him. If he seemed cold to his associates sister...its because he has always known who and what she is...and that she, like him, is a product of a place that has no room for real affection. Mugen never had any intention of being honey-potted, and was never really surprised by how it all turned out. At some level, he just resigned himself to being betrayed again, went thru the motions, then made the people who betrayed him pay...especially her...because with no one to protect her and no horde of gold, her life is back to the prison she hated most. It was also a cathartic set of episodes...Fuu and Jin now know him better than anyone else alive, and have seen what he came from and survived. Mugen has cut himself loose from his past. He relived one last episode of being betrayed by people that were supposedly his allies and business partners...and walked away from near death...again. He is now more free than he has ever been. In contrast to the people who was raised with, Fuu and Jin are more loyal, more trustworthy, and more his only family than anyone has ever been.

      Fantastic comment, you really get it. Mugen is a fantastic character and these two episodes really solidified that for me back in the day.
      I always kinda related to how Mugen acted in the first one especially when he was around Mukuro and Koza. I didn’t grow up on crime island, but it wasn’t a nice, safe place either. On the very rare occasions I see the people I used to hang out with back then, I always feel shut down emotionally, I just run on auto. I listen to them try to talk me into their latest scam and chuckle mirthlessly at their stories of exploiting people and feel pretty much nothing until I’m back out of that context. Like, I don’t hold much animus for them, excepting flashes of anger, I get it, but I’m glad I’m not like that anymore. I think Mugen was probably feeling similar.

  • @Ash95_12

    I get why you guys would feel sorry for her but i think the whole point was that from the moment they reunited she was already in cahoots with that other guy so pretty much most of the stuff she said to our main crew was a lie honestly,, she's just been in survival mode so she doesn't really care for anyone else 😭 so instead of killing her Mugen gave her the cruelest punishment which was to be alone with no one to look after her and no money to rely on

    • @nichescenes
      @nichescenes 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      I feel like they did what they said. They assumed she’s innocent just from vibe. Make her a man or weird looking and they would be like she deserves it. It’s weird. Like she did him dirty and they kept saying it’s not her. Good ep was starting to think they would drop it but they get the series now. It’s not supposed to be what they originally thought but it’s also not entirely trash nothing going on turn mind off. It’s high on mal for a reason.

    • @spiraljumper74
      @spiraljumper74 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      She was a consummate survivor, and she survived by attaching herself to whatever more powerful man was around to protect her. Given the historical period she was living in, and the trio’s upbringing, I can’t say I blame her anymore than I blame Mugen or Mukuro.

    Thadam movie reaction please. This movie is inspired by real events, comes across as a pretty straightforward urban thriller.. During the investigation of a man's murder, the police find two probable suspects, who look alike but do not know each other. However, the case gets complicated when new facts get unravelled. Original language is Tamil (Kollywood). Indian cinema.

    Also there was a penal colony that France used and maybe Britain if I remember correctly but the worst of the worst were sent there but also sometimes political rivals so it got crazy pretty quick and allegedly there was cannibalism. No real proof that like any one person did but people were found with pieces missing.

    It’s funny how men in anime are liked more by western demos when they appeal to the cool guy alof who is the opposite of say denji in chainsawman woman chasing wise and just comes off asexual. Not saying the guys here are asexual but they or he avoids real relationships and chases cheap quick thrills. And in anime women just fall over men but in real life even though men and women on paper have relatively close drives around the same age. Woman are the alof ones and men fall over themselves chasing one pretty girl in a room. Not all the time always exceptions but I think it’s like a power fantasy anime. Men are what a lot of these shows target and they appeal to the idea that guys who don’t talk much and whatever don’t worry women will notice and fall for you no matter your traits. Just seems funny since more often I’ve seen woman who can say nothing and men think she’s the greatest catch just off looks. It also could be that they wanna appeal to west puritans that get mad at the sanji one piece type lol or that’s just too much. Could be how they wanna make it. Just shocked the default guy in most anime is either asexual or comes off that way or is super unresponsive to women and on rare occasions over reacts for jokes at the mere bump into a woman. 😂

      I mean Westerner are a lot more outgoing and social than the Japanese due to cultural norms. The Japanese themselves even admit that.
