My pet peeve is when people insist on making a fire with wet wood so it smokes to high heaven. Invariably the wind is blowing away from their camp (into mine) so they don't care. Having to shut all the windows in 90+ degree weather and stay inside (so I can breathe) is no fun.

I lived in Tobyhanna for 3 years. Gorgeous area, terrible people. We ended up moving because most of the people there came from the city and didn't understand that people who live in the woods want peace and quiet. But I loved the state park there. I would hike around the lake almost every week. It's cool to see you guys in a familiar area.

This PA campground looks good. We've stayed at several state campgrounds that we barely fit. We're a 38 foot motorhome with a toad. Many times tree branches were not trimmed along the entrance roads which made it a tight squeeze or branches scraped the top. One time, in Kansas, we asked for a pull thru and they gave us what they called a pull -through. It was two campsites close together. We were supposed to pull thru the one and then make a 45 degree turn to get into the other one. And, we had to unhook our toad. This one too, charged us for two vehicles; the motorhome and the toad. I'm glad this PA was a good one. We've only had a few that worked for us in our travels.

Great video. I may not ever visit this campground, but I always learn so much from your reviews. Now I have to tell you a real story about Release and why I can't thank you enough for recommending it. We traveled 560 miles to a campground and were towing our Jeep. We stopped half-way here for lunch and a fill up on diesel when we noticed that the Jeep was covered in oil and the back of our 44ft Class A baby was also covered in oil. The cap on the fill tube for oil had come loose and was hanging there. Oil everywhere. Surprisingly, our oil pressure while driving had only dropped very slightly so I thought I would just check on it when we got the campground. Well, there was no way I was going to leave that truck stop with oil all over everything. So, I grabbed my Release jug, the sprayer I ordered with the Release, and a bag of 100 shop towels I always carry. A little Release and some water, and my telescoping ladder and I was on a cleaning mission. Not more than 30 minutes later, the RV was shining and so was the Jeep. I used about 10 shop rags and everything looked perfect again. Release is truly an amazing product!!! No hose needed, no pre-wash needed, just spray, wait one minute, and wipe off the oil. Insane! SO...big thanks to your channel for bringing Release into my RV life.

nice review, glad you have a good stay. We stayed at Tobyhanna a couple of years ago, in the summer. It was horrible. Campers across from us had a big party, played loud music most of night. Campers next to us also the same, talked most of night with loud music until 1 in the morning. Tobyhanna is off our list.

Only recently found you guys … so happy I did!! I hail from south Jersey … used to camp exclusively in state parks there … loved it (although I do agree that pa’s seem to be a notch above) … totally miss it … there is nothing like ‘local’ camping … lived in the midwest for a couple of decades and now in Texas … they try but not quite the same … thanks for giving me a taste of home!! And keep those campfires burning!

Nice review. Since I'm from Pa and do most of my camping in PA State Parks I just want to comment on some of your comments. No worries.... Most of our State Parks are in very remote areas where cell service isn't reachable. It is getting better but not there yet. Also because our State Parks are funded mostly by taxpayer dollars the dollars only stretch so for. There are a lot of parks that are getting some full hook ups but it takes time. I remember as a kid camping in these parks and we really roughed it, no electric or showers. The creeks we camped along helped us kids keep cleaner. We have it so easy today with electric. Still love the roughing/boondocking. Looking forward to your new adventures, tips and news.

Conserve & preserve. If you can’t Boondock then you shouldn’t be out there! You are camping! That’s the point!

Used to camp at tobyhanna every year growing up. It went through some changes, more sites were added and more electric sites. Growing up it used to be tent heavy. Those big bathrooms weren’t there, the one in the middle used to be a big playground and the bathrooms used to be primitive.
Garbage cans used to be every hundred feet a pod of 4. Great bass and bullhead fishing as well.
We went back for the first time two years with our Rv in over 20 years. Only thing we didn’t like was a certain smell in the air from other sites. You need to check out Lackawanna state park. That’s our favorite.

I'm puzzled why someone would use a generator when there is electric at their site. We have been tent camping for a long time and almost all the state park sites in Michigan have electric, and you mentioned that there is electric on the sites in that campground also. Are there some sites without electric? Does the park not have rules on using generators?

Okay, MJ, you asked about pet pigs. True story. Irina & I usually go to Carmel, CA, for a week to celebrate our wedding anniversary (Actually M-F so we miss the insane weekend tourist rush). When we go we stay at a fantastic pet-friendly hotel a few blocks off the main drag (Ocean Blvd). The rooms are really neat, have "dutch doors" and it's a very cozy and wonderful place. So the first night we're there our Service Dog in Training is fascinated by the room directly across from us and just keeps staring at the opposing door. The next morning, Irina takes our pup for her morning "hurry" (our command for toileting) and comes back in with "There are two pigs in the room across from us!" Sure enough, two porkers, both about 50-60 pounds. Quiet, clean, and (MJ, you'll LOVE this) when the folks took them out to the toileting area, they had them on harnesses. Gotta admit, they were sweet and well behaved four-legged kids. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Pigs make very good pets, but you need to be smarter than the pig. Not sure how they'd rank on an IQ test, but their intelligence level is pretty high. Once you let one in the house it will never be happy outside again.

As avid campers we travel now with a large 5th wheel & are not willing to go solar. We need power & will run a generator as needed. A barking dog can be tuned out, but miss behaving children are worse. Also adults that over drink. At least these are not permanent neighbors, we all move on. Try to ignore these things as each family has different circumstances.

In Ohio and Colorado (and in between) we typically see around $20 for electric only... maybe upper $20 range for electric and water... then a free sewer dump in the campground. I get irritated at the people who don't teach their kids to respect others' camp spots. One time we had 3 boys running around and between us and the next site over. Their parents were a part of a large group at the end of the loop. We were all outside and they didn't care. then they ran through out site and actually between us an our camper which was just feet behind us. I had had enough and yelled at them to not run through our campsite. The last boy apologized and changed direction. They ran around the are for a bit more. The couple next door told us they were shocked at the kids did this. We were all saying we never would have done this as a kid even without our parents telling us this. Many actually teach them to be jerks. Years ago there was a large group and their kids were extremely loud and some were even cursing. They were playing away from their group and then a guy was walking by and heard the parents actually telling them to go play around other peoples' sites. He told a ranger and they got in trouble and were told to keep their kids in their area rather than other people's site or they would be kicked out. Later that day some thunderstorms started rolling through and most people left the campground. It was so peaceful after that. Many apparently lived close by and came back the next day to get their gear.

I’ve been watching you guys for quite a few years now. You should check out Ace campgrounds there’s some not too far Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia course they are inexpensive and have everything. The last one I stayed at was just south of Nashville on the lake most places where the army engineers built a dam, they built campgrounds and their federal. You should check them out, so are you still counting the days till you retire? Take care of you you guys are great!

We always camp at Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro, MD. The bathrooms are full of stink bugs and spiders. Never soap in the dispensers. Never have updated it. 2 showers with just a curtain side by side. But since we have had a travel trailer we haven't needed to use them. I'm very OCD too and even do the sqeegy thing at home. Then use a towel to get any spots I missed and all the things in the shower lol. There is only electric hookups unless you're a camp host (they have full hookups). There are 4 loops. Only one has electric. One is mostly big RVs but no electric there. It's right off RT 40 and surrounded by the Appalachian trail. And has a large lake with beach. They closed the Nature center and stopped all the interactive programs when covid hit and just never opened them back up. They are currently doing construction and have the first 2 loops closed. Check in at the moment (and we're told for the next 2 years) is a nightmare. You reserve online but you have to go to the camp office which is usually a walk up window in the parking lot at the front. But now it's down near the beach. You have to park on one of the beach parking lots then walk up to what used to be the nature center to get your gate pass. I like the fact that without the code you can't enter the camping part. They have one dump station with dumpsters at right over the gate. What I don't like is the drinking water is 5ft away on the same side of the clean out. Most of the spaces are spacious. Not like the one here. But better than a KOA. There is tree cover/shade in most of them. The RV loop has less space. It's very quiet in the school months but during the summer you have lots of kids playing in groups. No breed restrictions. Great price. Electric loop is $30 I think (I reserve every Feb for the season and don't pay attention. It's our 14th year because it's within 40 min of our house). It's a few minutes away from antique shops and only minutes away from Hagerstown where there is drag racing, baseball, the Arts, restaurants etc. We like it because it's familiar and close. We did go to Rocky Gap state park in Cumberland, MD a few years back a few times. But there is nothing close. Love the campground and bathhouse there though. We'd like to find some more places close to us. The worst one we have been to is Blackwater Falls in WV. The sites were so close together that our TT was on the road and the picnic table and fire ring outside the door. Woke up the nest day to tents just popped up in various places. Horrible!

I grew up camping in Stokes State Forest and High Point State Park for all 4 seasons. Both of which were wonderful. Of course this was 50-65 years ago and things were different. I left NJ to join the military at 18 and aside from being stationed there one tour, I never looked back. It is not the same. Due to their current liberal stance on many things I hold near and dear to myself, I will not camp there ever again. Sad.
