@@_levandre_Oh, I can answer that from experience! My AirPods are crap for wearing under a helmet because all the noise cancellation is active, aka done electronically. I have Jabra 75t’s that have both active and passive (they literally plug your ears lol) and they work fantastically and I can still hear the bike and my music great. They don’t work for phone calls though, the mic gets fucked by the wind noise.

As a newer street rider (dirt for years) One piece of advice i could give to everybody it to please learn to ride in the rain, obviousley not a huge downpore but from basically light mist to a nice rain so you arent caught off gaurd if it starts to sprinkle on the way home if you're caught out. its better to learn sooner and be "comfortable" in rain or on slicker roads then only ride in the bone dry and be caught way off guard. Stay safe out there guys 'n gals.

As a former Naval Aviator I can attest to the fact that wearing ear plugs actually helps you hear BETTER in a noisy environment. They block out all the background noise - engine, wind, etc. - and let you concentrate on what you need to hear. Having said that and having worn earplugs EVERY time i flew, I still have significant hearing loss at 68Hz which is the frequency my aircraft's engines put out. Spend enough time in a noisy environment and you will have hearing loss. You will just have less if you wear earplugs.

Adding to the beginner vs "advanced" bikes, I came into motorcycling and was told at MSF that 250s or maybe 500s are the biggest you should ever go to start, but they didn't explain the difference between sport bikes and cruisers. I ride a 750 Shadow which is a "big" displacement engine for a sport bike, but I've done about a 6-7 second 0-60 on my bike. A 750 sport bike is probably more on the range of 3 seconds at that size. Cruisers are like the pickup trucks of the bike world and I thought I was doing bad getting a "big" 750 for a first bike.

I absolutely agree with the ear plugs. I started using them years ago when i was communicating 35 miles to work one way at Interstate highway speeds (70+), with a halfface helmet. Now, i work in a different place, and my commute is way less and back road speeds (55mph limits), the wind isn't has bad that a pair of Bluetooth ear buds actually help out alot with the wind noise.

Amen brother! I started riding street in 1986 and didn't start wearing earplugs until 15 years ago. My ears are shot, after ridding well over 250,000 miles my left ear is destroyed. Sometimes it gets so painful with them in I have to call it a day and head home. Summarily surfers get what's known as surfers ear. So if you are a new rider listen up ware earplugs and don't suffer when your older.

When it comes to improving your skills, I started riding in 1978 and try to do something every year to improve my riding. A course, track days, a challenge, something, anything to keep improving. If you don't think you can improve or have room for improvement, sell your bike because you have no business riding. That is the thought process that gets you or others in really bad situations.

You hit a VERY important issue with wind noise. I went to ENT and Allergy and had them make molds of my ears and then the labs make them a perfect fit. They’re made of a silicon like material. They cost $250 but last years if you don’t loose them. The generic one size disposable are garbage. As soon as you turn your head to look for traffic they come out of the canal or fall out all together. Bikes cost $6k- $30k+.
Factor in $250 with the bike. I have tinitus and partial hearing loss and it sucks! It’s possible i was told I may eventually loose my hearing permanently.

I wonder how good noise canceling earbuds would work for riding.... they suck for half helmets because the sound of the wind rushing past them is very loud even at only 40 km/h (about 25mph or so, i don't know, I'm Canadian).
i got a set of concert earplugs from my local music store. They let you hear the music cleanly, just at a lower volume, so it should be good for riding, too!

Guess i have that to look forward to lol cause i prefer 0 clipper length for maintainance, less than a full shave but no length by anymeans, its like our heads turn into snow tyres.

I wish I hadn't listened to my mechanic who told me it was okay to start on a liter sport bike (SV1000S). I have not been hurt riding it for 1.5 years, but the thing is huge, uncomfortable to ride under the speed limit or do long runs on the straight roads and really a pain in the ass to ride slowly in the parking lot: requires a lot of counterbalancing and really tires the hands.

I use airpods pro when I ride for longer time, however it is a pain to get them out when you use a full face helmet like a Arai that is more tight, you need to also wear that head mask thing to keep the airpods pro in place when you remove the helmet.

Funny story; I forgot to put my earplugs in before a race 😂😂😂
Just leaving pit lane, I already wanted to pit straight back in 😂… then I hit the back straight… and I knew I had to keep the tyres warm so I pinned it. Let me tell you something; I had an SC Project end can (emphasis on the “can”) and a header-back pipe. From 9000 to 13000 RPM, it was excruciatingly painful…….. FROM 14000 TO 16000 RPM!!!!……. It’s like my bike flipped a switch and said “I am going to make your head explode now”. Literally, the change was easily noticeable at exactly 14000 RPM.
Now obviously I didn’t have enough time to take my helmet off and put my plugs in on the grid. So I’m sure you know what’s coming next 😂… Everyone revved their bikes up ready to launch, and then the lights went out………….
BRO!! I. Wanted. To. Die. I genuinely thought there’s no way I don’t go deaf after this. Then we all reached the back straight as a group, with our bikes all around 14000 - 16000 RPM and I was just waiting for the moment where I’d suddenly hear nothing.
But that was the longest race of my life. I struggled to concentrate from the noise, my lap times were all over the show, and it was just a nightmare. My ears were ringing for a week straight, no joke.
