This is one of the most perfect composed musical pieces of all times and all l this without electronics. I can't imagine that this will ever be forgotten and probably still played in a very far future as we listen today to it from a distant past. timeless, beautiful and just superb and as close as you can get to perfection. I am glad Monteverdi created this everlasting piece and others
This was perfection! The tempo was right on... the way it SHOULD be performed; most singers can't handle the vocal dexterity needed to bring it off as these singers (and instrumentalists) surely did. Exciting and intellectually executed. Many thanks!!
This is probably the video that I keep coming back to most on TH-cam, I love everything about it, the voices, the instruments, the clarity and balance of the sound mix. I am listening on my new headphones and it is even better than I remember :-)
I am not being kind, as a fellow musician I appreciate and recognise the skills and talents of your group as well as the quality of the performance. ;-)
I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: We shall go into the house of the Lord. Our feet were standing: in thy courts, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem, which is built as a city: that is compact together. For thither did the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord: the testimony of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord. Because their seats have sat in judgment: seats upon the house of David. Pray ye for the peace of Jerusalem:
Perfection? Why did you leave out the bassoons that go with the bass duets? And aren't the choral parts for SATB? I think I remember that from the score... Lovely performance of the piece, nonetheless... I learned it at a concert in the 70s by the Paul Hill Chorale at the Kennedy Center...It's been a favorite of mine ever since...
I have this piece with Emma Kirkby I believe it Trevor Pinnock conducting. It is much slower and hence you get all the nuances. You don't feel as rushed. the dissonances sound a lot more. I encourage you to check it out.
I have a version with Emma Kirkby conducted by Frieder Bernius and there too the tempo is slower and, for me, better. But maybe it's just a matter of what we grew up with.
Complimenti!
Six minutes and forty-three seconds of musical heaven! So, this is what its like...

What a towering genius Monteverdi was !
Love the early Baroque and especially Monteverdi! Thanks so much for this!!! Soli Deo Gloria.
Splendid rendition of a great musical piece!
And kudos to the recording engineer for capturing the period instruments in balance with the voices.
Incredibly beautiful and serene.
Beautiful; love the rich voices, lutes, and instruments in general. Thanks SO much for sharing!
Joy, strength, humility, purpose . . .

That is so kind - thank you so much! We loved performing it, and we hope to offer it again sometime soon!

Thank you! We are so honored to be in such high standing with a fellow musician!
Absolutely beautiful music. And those two ladies are heavenly 🙂
Monteverdi blijft geweldig!
Deeply moving execution of this immortal, beautiful music.
This was perfection!
SO beautiful!
Merveilleux et bravo! Merci !!!
This is an excellent example of why Monteverdi is such a giant in the High Renaissance/early Baroque.
Clear, rich and beautiful! Bravi!
Beautiful, perfection. The best of humanity quite frankly. And I think I'm in love with both Jolle Greenleaf and Molly Quinn!

A wonderful piece and a wonderful performance. Thanks for posting the video.
Absolute perfection
👍🏻👏🏻
Marvellous!
there is a "ascenderunt" more of what is written, and is also a bit too fast, but it's a nice performance. Yes fantastic Monteverdi!

My favorite Monteverdi motet. With this piece did Monteverdi invent the passacaglia?
No, he did not invent the passacaglia. But we love what he does with it!

Fantatic Music, much too rarely heard. Nice to have a choir of soloists, but it's a pity the bassoon accompanying the basses is replaced by a cello.
Published in 1650? It certainly wasn't written in 1650.. Monteverdi was dead in 1643.
Charles Smith : Yes, that's correct. He set the same text several times so we noted the publication date.

Commento ingiustificata.
Too fast!
We respectfully disagree. :)
Tempo too fast !!!
We humbly disagree, but thanks for watching!
