I just became a below the knee amputee barely a month now. The video gave me a lot of answers about how these prosthetic legs are a pain in the ass but the wings by which I will come free and independent again! I’m only 36 and I’m starting from crawling and standing by myself. No one has the same experience with a major even in life, but this journey is becoming one that no one especially not me could have imagined

I am mesmerized. Not an amputee, not an OT, but I am a nurse practitioner and I am grateful for how you have donated your personal space for learning and development. Demystifying and 'normalizing' ..
    Great story, AmputeeOT!

@@frankdatank2529 Ur a clown. They aren't writing a book focused entirely on a prosthesis. Just that a character of theirs has one so they have to get some basic knowledge about how a prosthesis works, otherwise they're going to be ignorant on info for a character.
Oh and do doctors write about diseases and procedures they've never had to go thru themselves? They sure as hell do, and that's even worse according to your petty mentality right? Hell, just look up "famous authors", people write books that include shit they don't have all the time.
You sir, are the one who needs to get a life, stop spouting nonsense on the internet. It's a reflection of your IQ.

Thank you so much for sharing this info! I had an accident which destroyed my right leg way back in 2003. I still have an open wound which is a constant source of infection. I have been in the hospital more than I have been out over the last five years. To make a long story short, my doctors tell me the only way I will ever walk again is to have an amputation. I have scheduled the surgery three times and have cancelled all three times. Here it is some 12 years later and I now have gained over 100 pounds and am very depressed. I have a disabled sister and her son that I support. Both need me! My parents have passed away so it is just me and my sister and nephew. Oh my nephew is disabled also but can function to a certain extent. Watching your video has given me hope. I have subscribed to your youtube page. I can't wait to see what else you will share. I think you will be just what I need to get out of this depression and find the courage to go through with the surgery. Thank you once again!

The ones that cost 30k are above-knee. Below knee prosthetics don't cost that much unless you go with one of those new fancy-pants powered ankles. I got my first prosthetic 6 weeks after my amputation, and will get my final one in maybe a month or so. My health insurance covers all the parts. Whether your insurance will cover prosthetics depends on the insurance company and the laws where you live.

Hi Jae. I am a 55 year old below knee amputee. At first, I was seriously depressed. As time passes, it becomes easier, it really does. Now, it's not even an issue for me. It has become the new normal. Your dad is fortunate to have a daughter that cares. I wish you and your father well, and as long as there is caring people around, he'll be fine. Take care. It's not an easy thing, losing a limb.

I am rewriting an old story of mine and I had to look it up because my main character is a double amputee and the whole story starts off in her room in the morning with her cat waking her up. I had to look it up so I knew how to write it in the story.

I was hit by a drunk driver and crushed my heal bone ,the calcaneus . Well it's been two years and I am still in a lot of pain every day . The doc said I could have two more surgerys and maybe take some pain away. But recovery on the first surgey is like 6 months and some rehab.the second one will be 8 month recovery and more rehab. So I have been watching your videos and it seem to be not that bad, do you have pain when u have your leg on all day? I am thinking about taking to my doc about below knee ampution It looked like its not that hard is it?

a similar accident happened to me, they asked me in the emergency room whether I want to try and save it or amputate. I told them amputate and it's been ok, no pain after walking around all day, maybe some discomfort here and there, especially on hot days, its 3 years now and you adapt to your new circumstances. I am as active as I was before, maybe more because you push yourself. sounds like what you are going through is worse. watch amputee coalition on facebook for more advice the people on that are very supportive as well.

Thank you for responding, they didn't even offer or really tell me about long term pain I would have. I would love to do even half of what I did before , and I will check out that on Facebook, I think it's the right thing to do, I can't stand long vary long to work ,and it sucks just sitting around. But if they offered to amputate your foot it must have been a lot worse then me. But think if they will do it I will getter done. Thanks again

Does the prosthetic click all the time, or just until it's clicked into place? My mother just got a below the knee amputation.
