una delle colonne sonore piu belle del firmamento cinematografico diretta e scritta da uno dei piu grandi compositori del genere young si esalta in questo capolavoro fatto a misura per questo capolavoro di film immortale ch rimarra nella storia---..
Victor Young's 'Samson and Delilah' is a great soundtrack and several years ago, I was lucky enough to find it (a 10 inch 33.3 rpm record with cover) at one of my local thrift stores. Thanks for posting this, Soundtrack Fred. :)
dunno if anyone cares but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all the new series on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend for the last weeks =)
Beautiful and exciting performance of this Romantic suite with typically film-musical sound of all the instruments. The solo violin sounds particularly beautiful. The brilliant composer/conductor leads the functional orchestra in an inspiring tempo and with utmost effective dynamics. Truly worth listening!
“The immortal story about the strongest man in all history! A masterpiece of big-screen entertainment! […] For shattering thrills, for earth-shaking excitement, for savage drama see Cecille B. DeMille’s Samson And Delilah” - those were the words in a trailer to promote this 1949 adventure of one of the greatest directors of his time, starring Victor Mature, Hedy Lamarr and a young Angela Lansbury. What rounds this spectacle off is the musical score by Hollywood veteran Victor Young, who put the needed emotional depth to it with great, desiring and tragic themes, dance numbers and an all in all great soundtrack, preserved in great condition through the years. Interestingly this score features the same (let's say) 'danger motif' (mostly heard in horns) as Mario Nascimbene's 1958's "The Vikings". A coincidence? Decide for yourself. Enjoy!
Excellent essay. Cool biblical epic sounds. C. Demille's theatrical sets always amused me. Love Alfred Newman's The Robe and Miklos Rosza's Sodom & Gomorrah. Reminds me of sunbathing atop a big flat roof in Yaffa, high, listening to Disney's Alladin soundtrack in 1993.
I watched both movies Samson and Delilah and Scaramouche. Both soundtracks fascinated me and they both come from the genius Victor Young! Somehow this soundtrack indicates the story is a romantic and epic tragedy.
The reason Hollywood made so many Biblical epics was because they were profitable and they didn't have to pay for the copyright on the written material. It's why we have so many movies based on Grimm Fairy Tales and Greek Legends today, no copyright payments. Thank you Fred, you come through with some beautiful uploads that cheer me up. Cheers to you, bruv.
@@Michaelbos I'm sorry but I don't think it's matter of morals. Hollywood is the place where moral doesn't exist. And If you think golden age of Hollywood films are clean, that just because the Hays Code. You could watch Pre-code films and you'll know what I mean. ( and I'm not criticising, I'm silent films and golden age of Hollywood's films most obsessed fan.)
@@Michaelbos Hollywood had to do something to get people away from their TVs and back into the theatres. Movies based in biblical times allowed Hollywood to bypass some of the strictest censorship guidelines: spend most of the movie showing them sinning, then make them pay for those sins in the final part of the film. Sins shown in modern times censors could object to; with the pretext "It's based on the Bible" you can get away with a lot more. How kinky is it that Samson gets tortured by dwarves and midgets in S & M gear? Love this movie, love this soundtrack! Ironic that in Sunset Blvd. Norma was criticized by Joe for wanting to make a creaky Bible Movie based on Salome -- but the great DeMille was making this Bible movie at the same time, which they included in Sunset's plot.
Aha! I've never given that a thought. And the Bros. Grimm collected all those oral traditions, but they edited and collected, so, still no copyright problem?

@Zachary Bo definitely, I've been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself :)
Excelente película, muy buenos actores y la suit extraordinaria de Víctor Young....
Cecil B. DeMille did an amazing bringing the story of Samson to the big screen. I can see why is was so popular back when it came out.
Wow - this music's exhaustingly delightful! Really makes you want to see the movie. Thanks for posting.
No one else but Victor Mature could play Samson.
This is true. No matter how many times they can make this. Mature is Samson, as Heston is Moses as Steve Reeves is Hercules. They own it.
Steve Reeves was originally cast but he didn't want to lose muscle mass as was required.
No One else could play Delilah .but Lamarr she brings such Extacy to the role .....
I've been collecting Victor Young because of you. This one goes on the list too. It is a pleasant dilemma. Thanks Fred.
I feel happily guilty about that and take full responsibility with joy!
Have a great weekend, Morlock!

Sensational, Epic, beautiful music.
Incrível
Great movie from the days of old Hollywood and the days of great written scores. And love the ending fade out of the video 👍.

Maravillosa música de estos grandes compositores
Recorded on an Ampex tape machine at 30 ips, loaned to Paramount from Decca! Burned up in the Universal fire, sadly.
Sansón no tuvo suerte en el amor del mundo, pero si tuvo el amor de Dios ❤

And just maybe they wanted to tell the story to people who then had morals.

Forza bruta e amori fatali💪🏼💔
This is a beautiful theme. The introduction of the movie I mean.
Did Bing Crosby write the song to the film ..?? Is that why he is in the FOTO ??
He only appears besides the composer Victor Young, because they worked in Paramount at the time. Nothing more.
I hear echoes of Camille Saint-Saens Samson et Dalila.
Folks, we love us some Khachaturian don't we? Yes, we do!
