The creepy pic of Ashley on Ian’s pics is one he took of her sleeping. He broke into her house, it shows the progression: found you- her house, Made a New Friend- her cat, that’s him getting closer, then you see a pic of a door, that’s to her room (if I’m not mistaken) then her sleeping. Basically taken inspiration from real-life cases, where the stalker shows the victim that they can do whatever they want, but “I didn’t, because you’re so special to me” sorta thing… a “If I wanted to hurt you, I could’ve done it, but I didn’t cuz I love you! Don’t you see that!!!”
LSS: dude be crazy stalker from Craigslist, fell “in love w/teenager that got something, stalked her social media and located her through her pictures. This was/still is a huge problem! So if anybody is curious, the game has a few real life details that translate fairly well if you're familiar with the area.
The address shown (on Yonge Street) isn't associated with a specific building (for good reason), but is indeed correlated with the city of Toronto (which works as you can certainly read the location). Ian's stated to live in a district (Scarborough) and it is likely a 20-30 minute drive from a home in Scarborough to TFS (Toronto French School, if I am remembering correctly).
I would suspect this draws a lot on the creator's childhood to get these little pieces of information right. But it's little things like this that can make games feel a bit more "real" in a sense.

    _Social networking safer than meeting_
The most interesting part was that the guy was your average, perv stalker she met thru Craig's List when she bought his mother's dresser. Maybe the mother died, he's alone, and free to hyper-focus on the first young girl he met. Each message he sent escalated horribly and were increasingly scary. Commenting on every photo every post it's like holy moly. The last one of course was the worst.
The horror here is not just his crazed stalker story, but the fact that a younger sibling read all this. Also horror because the police were "looking" for 5 days but had NO ONE that could look in her computer? Pretty well done with the cringe of the late 90's early 2000's on full display including the gun/cassette tape riddle.

    • @emstink
      @emstink ปีที่แล้ว +67

Likely has nothing to do with the mother. Clearly the dresser didn't belong to his mother at all, it's bright garish pink and he lists it for "TEENAGE GIRLS" - the dresser is a hook, teenage girls his aim, and thing about it being his deceased mother is the camouflage that makes him look more sympathetic and approachable. Creepy men like this don't suddenly start hyperfocusing on teenage girls just because they have more free time, it's something that often begins when they're a lot younger and stays that way. Likely Ashley isn't the first girl he's gone after, just the first one that's successful. Might not even be the first one that's successful either, unfortunately.

@@emstink Actually the game mentioned nothing about a deceased mother - that was my assumption. I thought if he did have a mother, that dresser might have been hers from when she was a girl. If she passed away, he'd be selling all her possessions. And I'm not saying you are wrong, but it would mean he actually purchased stuff like the dresser deliberately to resell on Craig's List to lure teenage girls. That's a lot of trouble to go to in order to get ONE girl to respond to the listing and buy it.
No, I think she "smiled" at him and was polite to an older man when she bought it. Anyone being polite is somehow the trigger for these creepazoid types who think it is a come-on. Then he watched her, messaged her, and wound up at her door. He might have done it before, who knows? Agree, that these guys are an ongoing menace.

I just want to post this information because in the event this ever happens to you, you need to act fast.
If you think someone is missing, report it immediately.
Don’t wait 24 hours or more because the first 24 hours are the most crucial. After the 24 hour period, that person is usually never seen ever again, or found dead. This isn’t true for everyone, but it is the majority of cases sadly.
If the police say “sorry, you have to wait a while before reporting”, then they’re not only horrible at their job, they are breaking the rules. You hammer it in that that’s not how it works and show the statistics and facts why. It’s the stupidest thing to make someone wait and statistics show this.
Making people wait is a myth, or was spread around by police because they don’t want to deal with wasting resources in cases someone just left for one reason or another. For example, let’s use this case.
The police will most likely argue that “well your daughter is probably an angst teen and is going through a rebellion phase. I’m sure they’ll be home in a day when they cool down or think they’ve proved a point.”
This is a likely argument that will be made, but what they think doesn’t matter. They must still do their job. If it turns out they were right, then oh well. It means you’ll have to punish your child and let them know if they continue, then you won’t go to police after a second time. From there, they will suffer the consequences.
But the police still have to do their job because that’s usually NOT the case.

      @feliciaroseantonia ปีที่แล้ว

For real!! Though come to think of it, I think I can see how this story would play out and have a truly good ending.
The intro stated Ashley's been missing for five days, so unfortunately it seems like, given everything we know by the end, she must have been kidnapped in that creep scum's house for that amount of time.
I know Manly said that one photo seemed like it could be a "dead Ashley" and I can obviously see why someone would think that, but to me it actually seemed like he was stalking her as she slept in her home, having a sleepover with her friend (or with her little sister AKA the character you play as).
So it doesn't seem like there's enough evidence to point to her not still being alive. Now as for the mother, unfortunately it seems like she must have been severely wounded during the home invasion/kidnapping and wound up in the hospital. I come to this conclusion because it doesn't say she went missing, and it also doesn't say anything about her having died, either, leaving me to think she must end up making a full recovery, but is still not yet fully recovered by the time Ashley's sister goes through her laptop.
My guess as to how the father and sister didn't notice anything about an invasion, and why Ashley's sister didn't look for clues until five days later? Their parents must be divorced, and Ashley is the one who lives with their mother, whereas Ashley's sister is the one who lives nearby with their father.
The intro states that Ashley and her sister don't talk as much, and of course if the mother is in the hospital then she probably wouldn't be able to tell the father and main/player character what happened. Meaning unfortunately the two of them wouldn't learn about Ashley's disappearance until it hit normal news.
But, still close to her in age and close enough to her sister to have insight into what would be going on in her personal life, I bet the reason the player character was able to get into Ashley's laptop was because she was able to correctly guess her password. I imagine this would happen when her father goes to Ashley & the mother's house looking for them, since there's no reason for it to happen otherwise.
Thus, Ashley's dad would be there seeing the entire events of the game play out (aka looking through Ashley's computer with her sister/his other daughter), and of course they would put the pieces together and promptly contact the police.
The predator lives nearby (by his own self-admission), and his Myspace profile makes everything ridiculously obvious as to him being exactly that. All that has to happen is for the dad to call the cops & for the sister to charge the laptop back up while they're on their way to come speak to them at the home, then log back into the computer when they get there and show them what's on it.
The only obstacle left would be for the cops to find out where the predator's address is specifically. But considering how much he frequented the area, it shouldn't be difficult. He didn't mention having a car when he said "30 minutes away", which leads me to believe - especially given the way he said it - that he meant "30 minutes away by walking distance" more specifically. Meaning it would not take as much time for the cops to drive there once they determine where it is.
Given the last message at the end, it leaves the impression that the predator intended to force Ashley into some messed up "daughter"/"wife" role rather than straight up kill her right away. Leaving me to believe she'd still be alive, and, considering the evidence basically gives itself away, thankfully promptly found by the cops on December 17th 2004 (5 days after Ashley's last login, which makes me think she went missing the day of her last login, and thus the 17th would be the day her sister looks through her computer).
Of course I imagine Ashley would be taken to the hospital as well and thus see her mother there, also having mostly recovered, to which the other half of their family would meet them there, and the abusive creep would be put away.
I imagine it might be more complicated to be able to pursue legal action against Jason the abusive ex, considering he's also Ashley's age and sent those messages through email. But it does thankfully seem like Ashley's been able to successfully get away from him, and the cops I imagine would surely take that sort of thing seriously too, considering everything that's happened.
I know cops irl are usually, um... less than helpful to put it lightly I suppose, but I like to really give them the benefit of the doubt in general when they're fictional characters. Different universe = different police force, perhaps.
This got so much longer than I meant for it to, but yeah. This game is short, and the ending seems pretty abrupt at first glance, but when you think about it, this definitely seems like what would happen as an ending. Horrible situation to have to be in in the first place of course, but still.
I like how the game handles everything realistically while also maintaining a sense of respect to the victims by not glamourizing anything for shock value like some cheap horror film that probably has a super creep for a director or something. (Bare minimum, I know, but still.)

So, like... I don't think the guy kidnapped her. It's kind of impossible? The narrator (the sibling) says she hasn't been seen in 5 days and is investigating her computer, and the messages from Ian (the stalker) is happening in real time. Thus, Ian has no idea where she is and is getting ready to commit a crime but isn't the perpetrator of Ashley's disappearance. The biggest suspect is actually Jason, the spurned boyfriend. He stops messaging her rather abruptly after threatening her a bit. There's also the chance that she ran away (she literally stated that she would on the page), but Ian, though a horrifying stalker, couldn't have done anything more than what was showcased already (except maybe against the investigative sibling).
Still, a great mystery and horror game, but sadly with no real resolution as to what happened.

I love how manly is reacting to all this, he’s cringing so hard at the breakup letter thing, and getting upset at the guy for being a creep, saying “don’t you dare comment on that cat photo” or something like that, and I love it, this game was so well done super spooky

It’s because of people like Ian that I believe we should teach children how to be safe online and how to spot the red flags.

Well, if there was anything terrible to happen to anyone, it would definitely involve using myspace. *Edit I messed up the wording... brain melt from to many "XD"s

"because people DO write like this, see that is the problem-" i love when manly goes out of character just to give his input 😭❤️

This was so unnerving to watch and the lack of music/sounds besides the computer and A/C just kept me on edge.
Nightmares to be had for sure.

Creepy stuff aside...this really hit me in the nostalgia feels. I kinda miss the days of Myspace.

*Yikes* this game actually scared the frick out of me. Namely because, I've had a few encounters, let's say, with these types of gross not-good-enough-to-be-men "men"... and yeah, one of them was a few years back when I was 22 and the stalker was some 45 yr old guy *shudders* .

the dev definitely nailed the y2k scene kid vibe, but even more than that they really captured the horror of gross situations like this. was actually kind of hoping that there would be an ending where we save ashley but,,this kind of ending makes sense being that its a horror game

God this whole MySpace and AIM style is crazy to me. Also the pixelated picture of the main girl I'm pretty sure was a super popular scene girl at the time.

As a 25 year old man, I felt so uncomfortable with the way Ian was writing and it is completely dumbfounding that there are people out there who can think this way it’s just so horrifying in a way that jumpscares or gore cannot compare to
