    I have modelled and exhibited in N gauge for some 25 years..sadly now I can no longer go out. This and the magnificent Fencehouses are every reason why although N gauge is superb and ever improving, it is near impossible to improve on hand built Finescale. I have followed this layout for years and I never tire of it, nor ever will I.....sheer excellence.
    Thanks for the interview and film....please go back again soon.
    Cheers, Bob

    Got to be one of the finest model railways I’ve seen.

    I've seen this incredible layout many times at exhibitions over the years and seen the developments that have taken place, the scenic elements are just mind-blowing and yes, "The Ladykillers" film is definitely always in my mind when I see this. It's amazing to hear that the layout is still not anywhere "complete" - but then what model railways at this standard ever are! Keep up the good work.

    I love The Ladykillers film but the best bits are the railway scenes at the end. This layout is so evocative of that era. Fantastic stuff.

    Yes he mentioned the lady killers which is exactly what i thought when I first saw it, excellent! Why would someone dislike this? it's not my era being a deisel fan but it's certainly a beautiful job.

      Well said, who indeed would add a dislike? At time of writing, there are 4 thumbs down 🙄
      This is a beautiful bit of work and as someone who has enjoyed the Ladykillers film many times, I love the idea someone would recreate such a now-iconic bit of Britain's railway history 😀

    Glad to see you have changed the Ebonite chimney to Tylors. The lettering was red on a white background though.

    amazing.....it's more than a layout....it's a piece of art...an old turner..?...it really is like stepping back in time on a grand scale.....the thought of keeping (and getting) a layout like this going would give me sleepless nights.....:-)
    after giving up on em gauge, i am quite happy with H0 and 00.....

    World of Railway's, As Someone whose followed Copenhagen Fields from the very first articles in Model Railway magazine many many years ago to now. I think you are right from the early day's to now the layout is just starting to reach it's full potential. I saw the first section ( the other end of the layout) as a static unfinished display at a model railway exhibition at Central Hall. Back then who new scenary wise it would grow into this? Cheers, Chris Perry.

    Breathtaking, but why Copenhagen Fields? Allan from Denmark

    • @world-of-railways
      @world-of-railways  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Copenhagen Fields was an old open area used for leisure purposes before urban development came. Maybe the name came after the Second Battle of Copenhagen; the same as the Duke of Wellington's horse?

  • @markanderson9995

    Absolutely SUPERB layout !!!!. I've heard of Copenhagen Fields before. It's incredible to think this has been40 years in the making !!!!. I've only just started in N gauge using Peco Code 55 . This might seem like a dumb question so apologies in advance. Is there a major difference using 2mm Finescale ???. How difficult was it to solder wires to the track ???. Once again, i'm awestruck !!!!!

    The line left on the bridge at 9:48 - from having four rails and train seen later should be London Underground - according to track plan shown earlyer is dead-voltage and just end up at the front or is not finished yet?

    • @CaseyJonesNumber1
      @CaseyJonesNumber1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only London Underground in that area is the Piccadilly Line, and it runs underground there. They have modelled the Caledonian Road station street level building as well as the underground station and a train at the front of the layout. The electrified lines you see are the North London Line, which was not part of London Transport.

    Clang - Quote "You couldn't build the track as well in N scale as in finescale" Unquote !!! But I had German N gauge layouts with fully handbuilt track in N, including Double Slips and even working Dual Gauge (N/Z measurements), on exhibition layouts, that predate the previous "Chiltern Green" layout, and my layouts appeared at more than one National Show and others !!!! And Tim you should remember me, we've met many times in the past, although not by the name shown against this comment.
    Indeed in N scale I would go as far as to say that I was the one who seriously changed many peoples view of N scale. By introducing higher exhibition layouts, 4ft 6in above floor, which resulted in hundreds of viewers asking if my layout was TT scale ! Using British methods of construction to model German National Railways (DB). i.e handbuilt track, handbuilt working and electrified catenary, and even some handbuilt German signalling using track circuitry. All of which worked exactly as per German Railway operating rules. Indeed British N was just toy junk at the time, which allowed me (as Editor) to take the nascent German Railway Society from 55 members to over 2000 in just 18 months, all thanks to my layout (Zweibrucken). Which was back in the early 1980's. People have such short memories !!!!!

    Elephant in the room: DC or DCC?
    I suspect DC, with traditional 'loops'.

    • @world-of-railways
      @world-of-railways  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When this layout was started, DCC meant Zero One and chips as big as the locos - so it was designed around DC.

    • @markahomer
      @markahomer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Neither. It's 2mm Finescale. A fraction smaller than British N gauge.
