I want to recreate the hem or piece of trim fabric than runs around a loose top. Is it best to overlap and sew or to use a fold/hem technique.. is there a difference? Also, I have tried the hem fold technique and taken the mesh into a 3d program for higher Res render. The fold of the hem in my case a t-shirt neck, is low res. It has just one fold line for the curved hem edge.. can I increase the smoothness in Clo3D do you know?
For hems, especially in 3D, the rule would be only fold it back if it’s a straight edge. If it’s curved at all, make a pattern piece that is the same shape as your edge. (Don’t mirror it like in real life, make it identical). This is a good idea for a video. I’ll try to make you one if this doesn’t make sense.
This method should work the same if the pattern edge is a straight line. But if the band is already folded, do you need a hem? Or is the band your finishing?
Good question. I usually add rendering thickness to belt loops. That plus topstitching looks real, so I don’t bother with layers. I never thicken pockets usually, unless there’s an actual reinforced piece. But I always turn back the top hem on patch pockets, so that edge does look thick👍

Hi, how do I add a hem to a folded band such as a kimono finish line along the front?

Useful tips on puckering. Good for drawcord hems
Awesome! Thanks!
For the belt loops, is it 1 layer of fabric thickened? or was it folded? Also did you thickened the pockets?

Thanks so much!
