The first guys in must have been incredibly brave/skilled, since there was no assurance you could ever turn around.
Now, as a cave diver myself and having viewed this numerous times, it's not so bad. You know the cave is short and there's space to turn around at the end.
(I just randomly happened to see the folks who videotaped this on a television show explaining the cave).

Imagine the three of you get to about 50m inside, where you approach a really narrow pass. The leader squeezes through, you follow after a couple minutes of writhing around. Theres just about enough space for you to crane your neck around to see the third member of the team completely stuck in the pass, one arm pinned to their side. Up ahead theres a dead end, and not enough room for the team leader to turn around. You're all trapped in a line, unable to move more than an inch forwards or backwards, less to each side, with no means of communication, left to watch an air pressure dial ticking to zero, before which someone will probably start thrashing in panic, kicking your mask off and ripping your regulator from your mouth.
    Suff of fucking nightmares.

Imagine those rescue divers in Thailand had to do it in muddy zero visibility water with much stronger currents to find those boys in the cave. Apparently it took them several hours to reach the boys. So take the fear factor of this video and multiply it 10 folds. That’s why people do it. So they’ll be ready when someone’s child is stuck in a cave. This shh--t is more heroic and ballsy than anything you see in the movies. Glad there are people like this in this world.

This, this is so, Incredibly “STUPID.” Both are, INCREDIBLY, members of the ever expanding village, idiots. You should see what some of the worlds absolute best underwater cave divers / cave rescuers have to say about this kind of diving.
Here is how dangerous this kind of diving is. There is, no mount cave diving. And then, there is flat out shit-for-brains insanity.
The chances of getting anybody out that dies in these type of restrictions?? 1 CHANCE IN 10. That’s it. Period. There is a channel here on TH-cam called, “DIVE-TALK.” and on their channel on a regular basis they have what is considered the law crème de la crème of extremely experienced under-water-cave-divers / cave-rescuers.
People like Ed Sorenson from Marianna Florida. (The names that you will read are people that are considered the absolute best on our earth right now. And you should see and hear what they have to say about it these type of restrictions.
Jill Heinerth Who is considered the absolute best underwater female cave diver today. There is no other female that can’t even come close to matching her.
Rick Stanton. His name, his underwater cave diving and rescuer prowess, speaks volumes. John Paul Volanthen. He is a British cave diver who specialises in rescues through the Cave Rescue Organisation, South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue.
And, the British Cave Rescue Council. In 2018, he played a leading role in the Tham Luang cave rescue. He cave dives as a hobby and conducts rescues as a volunteer.
And mounting an underwater rescue in places like this when some absolute idiot just has to go in there and he dies or she dies.
Sorenson began diving in 1995 and within a few years expanded to cave diving. In 1999, he joined International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery (IUCRR) as one of the original members and later founded Cave Adventurers in Marianna, Florida in 2003.
Sorenson became a local hero in 2012 after four rescues that year and was featured in the Duracell series Quantum Heroes. For his efforts in 2012, Sorenson was awarded the Diver’s Alert Network Hero Award, Heroic Merit Awards and the Instructor Trainer of the Year from the Professional Scuba Association International.
Due to his experience with the Vortex Spring cave system, Sorenson was involved in the 2010 search for missing diver Ben McDaniel. After an extensive search Sorenson believed that McDaniel was not trapped in the cave because of lack of evidence and disturbance to the cave commonly seen after a diver passes through.
He stated, "The last place I searched was pristine, without a mark that a diver had been there. It would be impossible to go through that restriction without making a mark on the floor or ceiling. He's not in there."
In February 2019 Sorenson, along with Mike Young, successfully conducted two body recoveries from Dudú Lagoon in the Dominican Republic.
In April 2019 Sorenson successfully rescued Josh Bratchley, a British cave diver who assisted in the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a Thai cave, from Mill Pond Cave in Flynn's Lick, Tennessee.
If there is about four more I could list but for me to do that and then expelled upon each one would take me a while. All of these people know each other very well. And all of them appear on the channel called dtalk on TH-cam on a regular basis. And all of them condemn this kind of underwater insanity

Been contemplating trying cave diving for a while. I'm an experienced diver and I took up caving a year ago. Done a variety of challenging caves in the UK. Still not sure if I'm brave enough for this. The visibility is excellent in this cave, and I suspect you'd NEVER get anywhere near viz like this in Britain, with squeezes just as tight. The thing about cave diving is this doesn't look fun. I love the challenge of caving, and diving for that matter, but the challenge is always rewarded with the fact you get to see cool stuff on the way. This is just a submerged tunnel and nothing else.

    • @YeahSureNoWorries

you think they'll get those Thai kids out?

    • @semanticsamuel936
      @semanticsamuel936 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Certainly hope so. I think they will, but it's one hell of a challenge given that the kids can neither swim nor dive. If you first experience of the water is a five-hour (probably longer) cave dive after you've been trapped underground for a month then it's going to put extreme psychological pressure on them. I think the key thing to remember is that the boys are in good health and they're all small and skinny. Given they play football I imagine they're all physically fit too, so there's no physical reason they can't do it. With full face masks (so no risk of regulators getting ripped from their mouth) and a slow and steady trip they should be able to. The killer in these situations is panic though, and I'm not quite sure how you train/prepare them for that when they're going from no experience at all to the most extreme end of an already dangerous sport.
From what I've read on the UK caving forums, the boys seem to be in good spirits. The caves are challenging, but the most difficult stretch is only 30 m long. Other than that very narrow squeeze they should be fine.

I'm a cave diver, but this doesn't look fun. This type of cave diving is on the extreme side. There are absolutely gorgeous caves with plenty of room located in places like Tulum, Mexico and Florida. If you have a chance, take a holiday to the Tulum or Playa del Carmen area in Mexico and you can do guided cavern tours in the cenotes. That's a good way to find out if you'd be interested in pursuing cave diving.
