I think my favorite part about this remake is that they added more music to the game and added dynamic music to certain areas such as the shop in rogueport
I noticed this too. While adventuring through Hooktail’s castle, they added a new arrangement to the battle and victory themes. So much detail in this game.
Nah, they did. You spend more time listening to this song more than any other than the game, except maybe battle theme. So it’s appreciated that they’re both excellent songs.
I'm conflicted on how epic they made almost all of the redid tracks sound, with the really cool drums and all... On one hand, it gives the remake a different feel than the original, for sure, but on the other hand, I think the redid tracks in conjunction with the new tracks do make the remake's Soundtrack the better one overall. I really enjoy what they've done with this remake, almost all good changes and additions. Of course, it's all up to interpretation, who likes which way what version did it, and all that.

@@clouds-rb9xthow would they mess up the dialog? From what I know of the TTYD they just made occasional changes to be nicer to more groups of people (i.e. Vivian is trans in English, Luigi’s bridal moment is treated as something funny but normal rather than weird and off putting, stuff like that)
@@JuneNafziger But they went too far in their changes. Faithfulness to the original script is great. Everybody's talking about the part at 1:09 (and for good reason), but can we give some appreciation to the part at 0:35 too? It fits the vibe of a town full of rogues and outlaws so well
YES, I love that part too. It puts emphasis on how grimy and sleazy Rogueport can be before working in that heroic melody there. I think it did a much better job portraying that element than the original did (which already did it really well-)
I think my favorite part of this new remix is the part at 1:10, when it really starts to sound grandiose as the melody works away in the background. It’s almost as if the song itself is saying “That’s right, we’re back! We’re back and BETTER than ever!” Which is very apt for this remake as a whole, I feel
@@chippypills the opinion is how you view rogueport. Honestly, if the of played first in the prologue and the new one played later on it would be perfect. Surprised they didn’t do that
Rogueport was already in contention for my favourite hub in a Paper Mario game, but this theme alone has pushed it above Flipside for me, it's so good.
Finally, a clean loop of the new Rogueport theme (and hopefully the rest of the soundtrack). Great first song to hammer in that this game is just so back. The bagpipes fit perfectly.
My favorite part of this entire rearrangement has to be the little flourish before the loop at around 01:46. It beautiful and ties the whole piece together. Made me cry the first time I heard it. What phenomenal remake of an already amazing theme.
Sure, the original song had a better vibe but this one has really grown on me since I first heard it. Whereas the original had a Detroit kinda vibe to it, this has more of a New York or Chicago vibe, more bustling than sketchy
I actually can't listen to the original of this without cringing omg. Like not to say it's bad, but this version goes so fucking hard by comparison. Rogueport's an awesome hub area!
Ok, so here starts a common complaint with people who don't like the remade soundtrack: "it sounds too grand, too lively for Rogueport, it doesn't fit at all", and while some points I can understand, like yeah, admittedly some parts of the song are a bit much, like some instruments at 1:09 kinda drown out the main melody here, sounds really good but it is a little noticeable. However, saying "it doesn't fit"? Yeah no, I disagree. While I do think some instruments are a bit much, the actual instruments they use, imo fit perfectly! I know some people say that because Rogueport is a rundown city, therefore this remix is too much, but honestly? Even the OG theme sounded kinda grand and upbeat, if anything, this remix is just amplifying that, making it feel like the start of a grand adventure! The (what I assume, correct me if I'm wrong) bagpipes at 0:36 still convey how Rogueport is a rundown, mysterious city, and I like how that instrument keeps popping up from time to time, to remind you how Rogueport really is! There's also the violin at the end, which some could also see as unfitting, but I beg to differ, to me, this part of the song sounds almost kinda sentimental, to reminisce of what happened to Rogueport all that time ago, and it being what ends the song feels pretty perfect, so I see it as an amazing addition. Interestingly enough, this is one of the new songs that isn't extended, tho its probably because the OG was already a pretty long song, but still surprising they didn't add more to it, but not a bad thing at all. Overall, the original I will always remember, but this remix is just as good as the original!
I, for one, actually really like that this version of the song has a louder feel than the original did. This one just screams "We're back, baby!" at the top of its lungs. Perfect for our grand return to Rogueport.
Love what they did with this remix, this track backing the sleazy streets of Rougeport does a great job at setting this place up as the core central hub of Mario's adventure. It's given a new, heightened level of grandeur, excitement and mystery that the speakers of the GameCube just weren't equipped for. It really does accentuate the feeling that you could go anywhere in the world from the place wonderfully. The same very much applies to innumerable other tracks in this remake, they did a killer job with this soundtrack!
How could anyone possibly think the old version is better?? I haven't played the original, but I listened to this song in the original game soundtrack, and it is honestly so bad in comparison to this. There's no way anyone who likes the original better likes it for any reason other than nostalgia.

it definitely sounds more battle theme-esque/grand compared to the original's more relaxed or eased tone, relatively speaking; I love the way the original tells a story in its progression: it starts triumphant and filled (0:00 - 0:35), as if to signal arriving in a strange new crowded place filled with strange faces on an adventure, then eases itself into being less pronounced (0:36 - 1:08), as if to evoke the feeling of finding yourself in the shady, quiet, scummy corners and back-alleys of Rogueport that didnt initially reveal themselves, and then suddenly that triumphant, adventurous feeling suddenly kicks back in (1:09 - 1:27) to remind you what you're here for, the reason you began this adventure, and finally ending with the quietest, most reflective part of the track (1:28 - 1:42), which makes me think of the things you do in Rogueport that are aside from your grand adventure: playing slot games, resting, speaking with the locals, relaxing by the fountain; the reminder that Rogueport is really a humble little town with inhabitants that mean well all things said and done. Its quite beautiful in that way along with being catchy and memorable as a whole. I think that this version only has the spirit and not quite the execution of the original, with its constant drums and the generally more abrasive intrumentation not creating the same atmosphere. thats certainly the musical direction since sticker star instilled into ttyd, but despite whether or not you believe it belongs/works for the setting specifically when compared to the original, I will say it sounds damn good in a vacuum.
