    I’ve viewed hundreds of TH-cam videos about lambing. Linessa Farms is by far the best and most comprehensive source of information!

    From Australia, thanks Tim...once again, useful and informative. Don't mean to pry, but I'm interested in your professional background - one of my sons is an ICU (intensive care unit) RN (registered nurse) and he speaks with a similar careful confidence and understanding about matters medical (veterinary too - he's pretty handy around the farm). In any case, always happy to see your vids pop up on TH-cam. Cheers then,

      Hi, Ross. Yes. I also work in healthcare. I have an associates in aerospace maintenance through the US Air Force, dual bachelors in both business administration (marketing) and applied science in nursing (RN). My graduate education is in nursing as well. I am board certified in advanced vascular access and credentialed at a local hospital for advanced line placement (PICC lines, etc..). I am the director of a cardiology and pulmonary screening program at this same hospital as well as a genetic screening program. I see patients in clinic side ~4 days a week. I am still in the Air Force as a reservist (I need to retire) as well. In my free time, I run the farm 😬.

      @@LinessaFarms Thanks for your response Tim...I really appreciate a solid and legitimate science-based response to agricultural questions (or indeed, ANY subject-matter enquiries)...there is so much unsupported "I reckon this..." or "I reckon that..." around the social media environment that causes good science to be masked by a mire of irrational delusion. Cheers then...

    Had triplets 24 hours ago, it seems the mom favors one , and she definitely head butts one, this one tries to nurse the mom will stop , smell baby's butt, then head but baby away. I had assist holding mom and letting baby nurse for 5- 10 minutes, I then made replacement milk, baby stands shakes has great appetite and good sucking . Don't know if I should keep trying to get the mom to take her, mom's bag is huge, this morning

      You could consider a head gate, or you may have to pull the baby she is butting away. I would be hesitant to leave her alone with him because she might injure him.

    Thanks for the video! For babies that might not have gotten enough colostrum from mom or that may have missed the 24-hr window, approximately how long before their bodies start making their own antibodies? Or will they not last that long, even with close monitoring?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually won’t survive. The thymus usually doesn’t start kicking in for antibody production until around 4-6 weeks and then has a slow start. There is an injectable antibody serum available in case you miss the 24 hour window. You can find it here: www.premier1supplies.com/p/ovishield-antibody-supplement?criteria=OVIShield&species_id=0&cat_id=0
      It is usually back ordered. I will see if I can find another source.

    I'm not sure if I heard it or not in the video. But how many times would you give the vaccine?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      CDT vaccines are given once at birth along with penicillin to protect against tetanus and navel ill. They will receive their actual CDT vaccine at 6-8 weeks of age followed by a booster 2-3 weeks later (directions will be on the bottle). After the initial CDT series, annual boosters are given once per year (single shot).

  • @McCoyFamilyFarm

    How soon do you give the BoSe Shot? I usually dont mess with the lambs the first few days if they're looking good but it seems like maybe I should be

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We give ours at birth. If you’re going to see problems, that’s usually when it is going to be. You don’t have to, really it’s up to you.

    Will the mom make more colostrum in the 24 hrs if you milk some out for freezing. How much colostrum is needed for the babies if the mom pushes them off?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ewe or doe will make more as long as you don’t go overboard. Common sense should prevail. If you have triplets, you might not want to push the issue. Moms with singles are your best bet for harvesting colostrum (assuming she is a good milker). If babies are rejected, it is advised to give a minimum amount of 4oz per baby every 4 hours for 24 hours.

    I have a question, can a newborn lamb also drink water or only the sheep milk ? If not, what age can they drink water? And is sink water ok?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. Lambs should be given access to clean fresh water from birth, however they will rarely drink water until they are multiple weeks old. There are isolated incidents where you would want to consider giving them water through a bottle or drench due to problems such as dehydration. Otherwise, they will start to drink on their own when they are ready. Any water safe for you to drink is acceptable for them.
