    I'm a retired lawyer and know nothing about raising sheep. But I do know this, you are doing fine. If you price your life for perfection you will never be happy. I like the baby sheep too. They are so cute.

      @Any One In the best run places there is death. If you don't like seeing that than maybe you need to not watch any kind of show that has animals. How do you figure they are being killed? How many Human mothers do you know go thru their pregnancies and die in the end? It's horrible that there is death at the same time there is or should be life but there is no need to be negative or rude.

    Here is something that I use for my puppies to keep them warm on a trip to the vet. It is a disk that heats in the microwave and stays warm for a long time. It is called a Snuggle Safe Pet bed Microwave Heating Disk. This would be ideal for you to warm up a lamb as it doesn’t use electricity and can be used with a wet animal. Of course you want to warm up a chilled animal slowly but this stuffed under your jacket would work perfect for heat delivery directly to the lamb. Amazon carries them.

      Can any vet tech or animal caregiver shed some light on this for me...
      have a question re:farm animals. As an RN, I'm quite familiar with giving dextrose, etc. But when prepping the solution for the baby lamb injection, after drawing the dextrose, she seemed to then also draw water from the bucket into the syringe. However, the bucket and water was clearly NOT STERILE. How is that safe to injection non-sterile fluids into an animal. Is that not an issue?

    • @rmoenmjea
      @rmoenmjea 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I am not familiar with veterinary care for farm animals but in pet veterinary care that would never happen! Not saying it is not possible, animals can take a lot more than one would think but having the dog drink out of the bucket and then injecting it... Idk. I wouldn't do it, especially because some sterile saline literally costs a few cents. Also wielding the open needle around like that.... Well. She is not a vet, it obviously worked so its okay. But would never happen in a professional setting

    Phew, thank God. She's been on my mind for a couple weeks now. We are cow/calf, and it has been heartbreaking watching this lambing. There are just years that are like this though. If not calving, and caesarians or pulls, we had our favourite 1st calf heifer hit by lightening. Lost a bull to what the vet thought was an aneurism, lying in the sun looking happily asleep. We couldn't believe it. Some years leave you walking around in a daze. Others are so fulfilling and rewarding it gives you faith and satisfaction in your many efforts

    Sandy, I so feel for you. When we were raising cattle my husband had a "rule" No calf no stay. I thought it was horrible, But when I sat down and put a pencil to things, 11 months of feed, medicine and all that goes with it, the bottom line is that it is a business not a charity. Anyone that doesn't pull their weight has to go. If you can prove that it is a feed issue and adjust accordingly that is one thing but if you can't isolate those that aren't pregnant it doesn't make dollars and sense to keep them. Better to cut your losses and at least get something from them. You are doing a GREAT job in a difficult situation. God bless

Had it half-typed & canceled it because i didn't want my nick-name for her to be seen as ....'uncharitable.' I caved today & used it in another comment but i'm SO glad to see someone thought along the same lines! _Albeit_ i _do_ realize mine's a bit more...'crass.'
      As an old OB nurse, i woulda soundly reamed anyone i heard talking about a gravid uterus that way, but i couldn't help it: THAT was her name in my head...
      Of course, we should remember the camera adds five pounds..

    Sandi, when drawing fluids from a medicine bottle, typically you draw air into the syringe, and then push that air into the medicine bottle, then pull out the liquid. For example, if you are going to give 10 cc, you'd pull 10 cc of air, inject that into the bottle and then draw out 10 cc of the liquid/medication. Makes it easier.

      Nice little unsolicited advice that nobody needs.

    • @sabrinaramos1435
      @sabrinaramos1435 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I didn’t read the comment and think they meant any harm. Tone is really hard to read over text like this. Just from experience putting air into the bottle really does make it a lot easier. If it’s a new bottle you don’t have to do it it may even be more difficult to inject air in because it’s already pressurized but the more you’ve taken out the harder it will be if you don’t start injecting some air back in just to equalize things.

    • @maddiehill2702
      @maddiehill2702 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, as long as you make sure you don't have any air bubbles and that you aspirate before injecting it doesn't matter how you get there. Definitely know where you're coming from though! I've had a few hand workouts trying to draw fluids without breaking the syringe seal. Probably just a weakling. 😂
