Superior Spider-Man is one of my favorite comic runs, and to see all that be undone with these new issues, having Otto regress back to villiany, it frustrates me.
Marvel complains about the "Status Quo" yet that's all they do. They're not pushing anything they're keeping things more stagnated than ever. Superior Spider-Man was the point they could have retired both Peter and Doc Ock. With that company they could have geared up all the younger spiders and let them take over patrolling. But NAHHHHH
I can see how it would piss off fans. Superior spider from what I heard is pretty dang decent. As a casual fan of recent stuff Atleast. What would be better redconing doc or creating new enemies they could have faught together maybe? (I don’t remember if doc died as a good spider or got just reset by mafisto or something like that) I feel like that could 100% work and actually progress Peter more obviously but it would probably piss long term fans off in a similar way. But it’d probably do better than this in my opinion. They just really wanna keep the og villains no matter what I guess
One of my biggest problems with current run is not Zeb Wells but the editorial cause marvel seems to want to make everything connected to their movies etc but also treat everything as a big event
I’ll never forgive them for throwing flash Thompson character development down the drain in that one scene. Peter doesn’t even care that he’s back just that oh he’s back and he’s just a jerk again even though he knows Peter is spidey
Idk Peter working for the man who killed his girlfriend, kidnapped his baby, is responsible for so many other deaths, killed his brother, his friend (flash thompson), and so much more just does it seem spicy to me lol. And I think Zeb deserves a lot of the Criticism as well. It’s obvious that there’s a lot of editorial mandate here, but Zeb was the one who pitched this story to them, and his writing of the characters has been way off as well
I’m not trying to change anyone’s opinion about Well’s Spider-Man with this video. The run for all it’s weird choices it makes definitely deserves to be as controversial as it is. With that said, I haven’t seen a lot of(if any) complements on the run so I wanted to dedicate a good portion of the video doing so. Zeb Wells, though maybe not a great Spider-Man writer, is most definitely a good comics writer and wanted to make my main complaint about the overprotective companies that own the characters of Spider-Man and not an individual writer.
There's a LOT to unpack with this run, and I didn't even want to give it a chance due to the rest of the community being so disillusioned in recent with Ben returning as Sensational Spider-Man in the Beyond story line and the Chasm ending. With all of this run being so back and forth, combined with all the tie-ins and side plots, I've been scared to give any of it a chance. When I saw the reveal of "what Peter did," I was even more upset than ever. Your video is giving me another outlook on all this, and helping me put feelings to print whilst showing that there IS good with the Wells run. For that I thank you.

I gotta give you credit for making a review/ analysis on Well's run putting the facts, the feelings, the plots in a honest opinion without toxic hating or fanboy rage. You set out to express your thoughts and be respectful, and almost every point you make makes sense to why you feel like that. It's hard to find someone these days that do this, especially on something so controversial that almost everyone is hating because of the same reasons. So It's nice to see someone to go against the crowd and put everything on the balance. Great video man!

About Vulture I don't shore how it in modern comics, but during Stan Lee runs I think he was 2nd most important and dangerous Sinister Six member (Electro, Kraven, Sand Man, Mysterio, Vulture and Otto as Leader), he also was 1st Spider Man villian who appeared more then one time and in their 2nd encounter he literally almost kill him.
I did not know that. When talking Sinister 6 in current times, I think of Otto and Kraven before Vulture just in terms of big stories but I don't think I'm familiar with Toombes enough to know how strong he is. Thanks for the insight!
I mean, Spidey overcoming incredibly impossible odds while the world is constantly beating him down for it is empowering, but it’s gotten REAL old by now. And I think I’ve heard some people say that the best Spider-Man stories are when “Peter Parker wins, Spider-Man loses. And vice versa.” And if you ask me, that seems dumb. Why can’t they both win from time to time? I just want to see my favorite hero be happy. I want to see Pete and MJ be happy together. I hope maybe some other stories in other media can do that, and maybe in the comics too, but for now, that doesn’t seem likely.
I hope we get to see happy Peter Parker in 'Across the Spider-verse' and maybe Marvel will feel pressured to push the character towards that direction but I think thats just wishful thinking on my end.
Unfortunately to stop another version of Green Goblin from the Spider Verse crossover Otto made a deal with Mephisto, reverting himself to before his character development. Yes they resorted to THAT again.

There are some things you can't bring a character back from. This is one of them. The amount of disrespect Mary Jane has dealt him and let the self insert, ntr bait, smug prick baby daddy punch Peter for no reason has made it impossible to respectably do without retconning everything. Think of Peter and gwen being a believable thing after her hook up with Norman...i doubt you can without thinking of another universe.
This is a question I've always wondered about the JMS run in the second half of the run where the OMD stuff happened was that mainly editorial forcing him to write that because it didn't seem like something he wanted to do
Civil War really changed the direction of that run but JMS worked with what he was given(which was having to tie into an event where Spider-Man was heavily involved in). I think while yes, Peter is not beyond forgiving his rogues, the fact he IS forgiving Norman isn't something HE would do. Not because he shouldn't, but because HE wouldn't. Sure, he may realize Norman isn't a bad guy anymore and that's fine and dandy, but Peter shouldn't and wouldn't form a relationship with someone such as Norman. Not even Brock got that treatment and he's both a good guy now and done a TON of good as well. Peter isn't holding grudges against Brock, but he isn't a close friend or anything of the sort. (But they both know they can ask for eachothers help.) He wouldn't with Norman. That is what feels out of character, and his reasoning is such a flanderized version of his motto it hurts. "I need to help and accept him because its my RESPONSIBILITY" And that's not at all the motto or how he acts in these scenarios. And, again, specially Norman! With how much evil he's done to him it's OK to realize he may not be evil anymore, but one just CAN'T shrug those actions off.

Great analysis of the story. I like that it's very objective. IMO the idea of Norman realising how horrible of a person he was and trying to do the right thing is good, and it's clear that Peter ISN'T over what happened. It brings tension and it's good stuff. But the characters, the tie ins and quite honestly the whole series of events/reason for Peter's isolation doesn't feel good to me, but forced, especially after the last issue. But like I said: overall agree with lil 90% of the stuff you said. BTW You heard the leaks about what will happen? Where? I didn't catch them....
Twitter has a field mine of supposed leaks so if you want possible spoilers, I found them there(something about Peter and mutants(?)). This story is gonna get a lot harder to defend if these “leaks” happen. Also thanks for the comment! I can definitely see that perspective with Peter’s isolation in the beginning feeling forced(which it kind of is) especially after Spencer and the Beyond comics.
I’ve never owned a comic book. I don’t follow them, I’m not interested in owning one and I really don’t think I’m missing out too much anymore. But all I can say is, we Spider-Man Video Game enjoyers are eating well the past few years.
honestly I found this entire run to be a complete trainwreck from the very beginning and frankly it still drives me insane that marvel won't just pull that trigger and give us back the marriage between Peter parker and Mary jane yes but also a bonus have both of them becoming parents to their daughter mayday parker spider-girl is the best course of action to see this character move forward at least in my opinion, unfortnately we all know the answer why they won't pull that trigger because they believe peter being miserable 24/7 is the best course of action for this character to get any development to which I say bullshit that's not character development that's the exact opposite and makes the character not being able to mature and move forward with his story which is just sad and depressing to see this happened to my favorite hero 24/7 it ain't even funny but just sad at least in my opinion. That being said though I am glad you're enjoy this interesting run on amazing Spider-Man more then I am right now because at the end of the day we all have are own opinions. :)
It is heartbreaking seeing Spider-Man not being able to grow for almost 20 years. Especially since other comic characters were able to take that next step and still be just as relevant as their former selves(an example would be Superman). We will have to see if marvel will ever give Peter the chance to have stability back in his life. With that said, that’s my problem with the ASM title as a whole and not this new run specifically but for a continuation of a 60 year+ story, yea this Zeb Wells story is the biggest spit in the face to Spider-Man fans. I just wanted to defend the story as someone who returned to reading comics with this run. More importantly I’m happy that I’ve been able to have good discussions about this run where there is a mutual respect so I thank you for that :)
@@ooshersego indeed it's heartbreaking to not see Spider-Man grow up and mature and become a great family man to his daughter mayday parker spider-girl alive and kicking in the mainstream marvel universe because that would've been really awesome and badass to finally to see happen in the comics at least in my opinion, especially because like you mentioned we see other characters like superman batman The flash wally west and finally Green arrow all have kids named Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self Damian Wayne robin Irey and Jai west and finally Lian harper and Conner hawke and you know what all 5 of them have common they are kids to big heroes and guess what 5 of them are great, so by that logic you think marvel would finally pull that trigger and finally let Peter parker and MJ finally become actual parents given all those other characters you mentioned before, but for some strange reason marvel refuses to pull that trigger which is just sad and depressing to see my favorite character Spider-Man to be in this sad state its not even funny but just just sad and depressing to read at this point but that's just my opinion. That being said though like you said I am glad you are having good discussions on this Spider-Man run even though I may disagree with this run and hate it with a burning passion I do respect that some people do like this run more then I do because that's good we need more positivity for Spider-Man more then ever at this point but that's just my opinion. :)

I stoped reading Spider-man Comics when this new run started so I don't know the context of comic #6 but, Flash Thomson died in the Red Goblin story ark. Correct me if I'm guessing wrong but maybe it's a flashback comic?
I likely have a much more unique perspective than most when it comes to this run. This is my first Spider-Man run and just series from Marvel set in the Marvel universe. (I specify that cause I've read the League of Legends comics which were made it partnership with Marvel) I took interest cause I saw he was with Black Cat and got curious as to what was happening. Upon learning what was happening I gave it a shot, I enjoyed more or less the same issues you did, but I also found some enjoyment in 6, 19, and 20. All 3 cause of the Black Cat and Peter stuff, but also I enjoyed the main Villain of 6 along with the pallet cleansers 19 and 20 were after Dark Web. Without all the baggage of reading past Spider-Man runs the story was overall good and interesting. My main issue was basically just like yours with the crossovers being awful (at least from the Spider-Man side of things, Black Cat and MJ Dark Web spin off was fun imo). Even learning all the stuff from past runs I am still fine with him not being with MJ for 2 reasons. First, to see if they actually attempt something long term with Felicia since that hasn't really happened yet, and the more important second reason, if Mephisto is forever gonna ruin 616 Peter's relationship with MJ I'd rather him just be with someone else. Peter can't grow if Mephisto's existence constantly causes his relationship with MJ to get ruined. The only solution to this would be to tackle the Mephisto problem, but since they don't seem to want to do that, a soft reset of Spider-Man makes sense logically. (I do realize this current thing with Felicia could get ruined too, really all depends on how the arc of chapters 21-26 goes.) It's not like there aren't other universes like Peter B. Parker in Spiderverse where you can still consume their relationship if that's what you want. Ironically enough Peter B. Parkers daughter looks like the supposed 616 daughter that would stop Mephisto and with how the Spiderverse works it could legitimately be her as a twist of cruel irony.
Maybe I'm being cynical but they will ruin Felicia. Again. Because it has to be MJ and Peter. Editorials hav shown this since OMD. Because ad much as I loe tem as a couple I agree that he should have moved on. Characters like Silk were there to give him that chance an while it could be fan reaction I think it's more likely that Marvel is TERRFIED of making lasting changes in th story. I won happen because they can't risk that their star hero wouldn't be relatable even tough he's less relatable then ever. I think that a OMD retcon would be better but thate fine. I'm glad you enjoy it.
Y'know I never looked at issues 19 and 20 as palette cleansers, makes me appreciate them more. I think I mentioned it in the video once but this was my big reintroduction into the 616 canon(I had done the research and reading after) so I also have fondness toward this run. I think this new era appeals to new readers because of the switch up of the cast(like Black Cat being an even more prominent character) along with it building up the world around Spider-Man from the ground up. I think its too bad that it also had to constantly halt itself to address MJ and Peter's relationship or do events like Dark Web(I also agree the tie-ins were pretty cool I liked the X-Men ones). The thing with Felicia, MJ, and any other relationships Peter has been in, for that matter, is the editorial decision that he can't grow out of the highschool/college on-and-off "dating" schtick, a typical angle of the "young" Spider-Man they want to push. That's why Peter isn't allowed to keep his long term relationship with MJ, and it is also why Felicia wouldn't do any better, and we would end with whatever goes on between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, except Peter is broke instead of a multi-billionaire. They may pay some lip service by giving Peter a happy ending with a family in another universe, but they can easily relegate those to the corner and touch upon them every ten years or whatever. Main canon Peter is their punching bag because they desperately want to keep the "status quo"
@@sparking023 I know ultimately they will probably break them up. I am just saying if they were gonna stop playing around with Peter and have him marry/have kids properly, that it can't be with MJ unless they resolve the Mephisto stuff.
You know what could easily have made all of this better? If Mephisto had a bit more involvement in everything that's happened since One More Day. If it was made clear that the deal made between the three of them was still being tightly upheld by Mephisto and he has been manipulating all of these events then fine, at least we'd have the eventual pay off of stopping Mephisto for a time be worth the hardships. What makes it even easier is that with the purposal coming up in NIck Spencer's run, two of the three things MJ tried to stop when she whispered to Mephisto and made another deal would've come up. The first being MJ remembers, which was already kind of outted back during the Kindred Storyline. Peter can never purpose to her again, thus we get Zeb Wells run setting everything to zero and Peter being back at rock bottom. This run should end with ether one of two things. First MJ and Peter do get back together, which at this point would be absolutely pointless honestly. The second thing which could be just as controversial but understandable in the greater effort of getting rid of OMD for good, the girl that MJ has right now is Peter's daughter, and the second child was one she had artificially with Paul to hopefully throw off Mephisto. When Peter came back for her it kind of ruined things because now Mephisto would have his eyes on her and she cant be with Peter. This would tie in to the last part of her deal with Mephisto which was that she and Peter would never have a child. The fact that they finally have a daughter would mean the deal with Mephisto is finally being broken. Tie it into the Avengers Coucil of Red story and that being the means by which the deal was at least weakened, and then the next run of Spider-Man or the next big event for Spider-Man could be him going up against Mephisto and finally getting rid of his influence in his life, leaving him to be a dad and with MJ. This would at the very least be reason to forgive the last decade of spider-man comics.
@@ooshersego It's such a ridicious thing too. Like I in part agree with them Spider-Man should be single and alone. But here's the thing, the Hero as in the masked identity of Peter Parker should be that way. As Spider-Man he has to worry about a lot of people and if he had Black Cat or Mary Jane riding shotgun on his heroics, he'd be more worried about them than all the civilians or himself. Proof of that is him nearly dying trying to save Black Cat while being attacked by Vulture. Sadly one of the more traumatic lessons learned from Gwen's death. But Peter Parker should not be the same loner that Spider-Man is. Marvel Editorials act of holding back Peter Parker is what is damaging both aspects of the character. So long as Peter Parker doesn't grow, Spider-Man can't grow because there would be such a huge disconnect between the two sides. Why is Spider-Man doing so well and has all these friends? If Peter Parker is barely making rent, can't hold a job, or a conversation. They need to let go of this gorilla grip they have on the idea that Peter must always be this one way. I just made a post over on the spiderman reddit about how they could walk back OMD continuing from the Wells run and other books with the other Spider-People they could put out to bring in an even larger audience. I was discussing with some commenters about how Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Arrow, and so many other superheroes have their own cast and families of superheroes. It would be in the best interest of Spider-Man: Peter Parker, the fans, and Marvel's wallet to(not to copy these examples) but try to branch out and let the Spider-Man character and mythos grow.(If you can send a link to the reddit page that would be appreciated)

The fact that Marvel Comics insists on Peter Parker being the family man he should’ve been years ago being regulated to alternative universe, for the sake of keeping him relatable for a younger audience is saddening. Especially when the majority of younger people are all in for that if Mayday in Across The Spider-Verse says anything.
I would say most(if not all) of the younger audience of Spider-Man comics are down to have Miles Morales as the main line Spider-Man and have Peter be "Spider-Dad" so this active decision the company makes is so dumb. Also I loved your video on this new Spider-Man run!

Perhaps I bias, but I do try to set it aside when I criticise something like this. I don't like the current run of Spider-Man. But I like some of it, and I know it can be better, I've seen it. I can tell that Zeb Wells cares about Spider-Man. 100%. He wants to write stories that people will enjoy, and some do, but for me it has all been very unsatisfying. Most stories come across half-baked, rushed, with little enough set-up to pay off the next big thing leaving the time and money given to a book (that's honestly too expensive for the amount of mistakes that occur with misspellings or continuity errors pages apart from each other) making me feel like I've been cheated in some way. I wanted to like it, I was actually enjoying the series up until issue 26 where I just stopped reading it altogether. I've been reading this book since 2014, and in that time I hadn't seen anything that really upset me like this has. What I mean to say is that nothing has been given the time it needs to develop or breath, leading to most of it feeling superficial.
I never had a problem with Vulture messing up Peter so bad, mostly because he literally catched Peter off-guard and destroyed his web-shooters. Without them, Peter has no real way to beat Vulture. So he needed to either escape (with Vulture still chasing him) or go and get the Oscorp suit to beat him.
If you wanna see an actual mystery in comics happen at the start and move at an actual interesting pace look at the new fantastic four run. Let’s you in on the mystery by issue 4 NOT 26 ISSUES LATER
I’ve been meaning to read more FF and will check it out. Also, I do wish I’d gone deeper into why the MJ and Peter break up was so infuriating, especially the character assassination of MJ in the new run which most definitely feels like Wells’s decision(him constantly cutting back to her and Paul for no narrative purpose except pissing off MJ fans)

Alright rant time. I have collected Amazing Spider-Man for years. Every writer has done something right, and also wrong. IMO writers need to dive away from this whole Peter cannot be happy bs. A great ASM comic run has science, character arc (includes relationships), and consequence. Parker Industries was widely disliked but I loved the idea of exploring Peter with power, fame, and wealth since we have only ever seen him poor.
i haven't read Spidey in 30yrs. seems like i haven't missed anything worthwhile. Batman just crossed 900 from 1940, yet Spidey came out in Aug '62 and he's at 900? some stinks to high heaven.
they've been publishing 2 to 3 times a month for over 10 years that's how it caught up so fast . Only recently did they go back to monthly with this arc.
Why does anyone even read Marvel and DC anymore? It’s all so poorly-managed and whatever change or evolution the character goes through will be retconned out of existence and they’ll just be back on the same continuous hamster wheel of fighting the same villains. It is frustrating to see characters like Spider-Man who were great for the freedom they brought to writers but the comics in the big 2 are now being made by fans of these characters and I think many are doing a great job writing them with care(like Zdarsky’s Daredevil or alot of the Williamson stuff over at DC). But as for evolution, yea it sucks that that’s no longer an option the corporations are considering🫤.
Superior Spider-Man is one my favorite Spider-Man stories told in the past decade and I think Slott's run as a whole is fun, I just think he was on the book a little too long and he usually tells big Spider-Man stories so I think that's why we got stuff like Parker's industry. As for Wells? Well...I made a video talking about how I liked a good portion of the run sooo I think he's not the worst writer but I'm definitely biased🙃. Personally, I think the stories sandwiched between the Clone Saga and the JMS run are the worst But again, I'm biased.
The cherry od stupidity in dark web is that Jean Gray is show performing a memory share with Madeline. The only thing i like of the Spider-man part of the event, was Rek-rap, because is that silly and ridiculous that not feel out of place like nearly all of the other characthers.
Modern Comics feel stagnant. What progress do these characters have besides different outfits and powers? Not worth paying serious attention nowadays. Maybe 10 years later the comic will either die or improve. I’m okay with either at this point. Until then let me know if either happens.

I get what you're saying, but these little bits are just not enough to offset all the trash. It's not that Peter has to win every time, it's that after all those years, Peter is still stuck in that "relatable" limbo. He's been in and out of relationships for years, but he fumbles and acts like an awkward teenager with Felicia. He makes a deal with Norman effing Osborn, and gets his ass kicked by the Vulture. *The Vulture,* an old geezer with wings. He's back to being broke and depressed because the plot literally demands it, and of course, once again Mary Jane has her character assassinated because we quite literally can't have them be together and happy. It's been done before, ad nauseum, and every time they up the "throwing Peter into the concrete face first" game because there's only so much shock value these stuns can evoke in the fans As you said, perhaps, with the benefit of the doubt, this run could be seen as good un isolation, but honestly, why should we even look at it like that. Zeb keeps bringing old stuff back so there's no reason to see it as a standalone. It's just the same old narrative underpinned by "Parker Luck" and the worst part is knowing it is all purposefully meant to spite the fans. The editorial legit told Zeb to avoid cons, alluding to that's coming next. They know it will be controversial, and they want it that way. I guess it does work to keep engagement, but it's Spider-Man! That's the last marvel character that needs those cheap tricks to keep relevant. Also, I'm still of the opinion that Paul is a self-insert, to the tune of "I'm Not Starfire" and "Velma". I love to see Peter struggle, but the point of it all is that he *overcomes* it in the end. Life hits him and he gets up again, but when there's only bashing, what exactly am I supposed to expect from the story? To me it's mostly editorial and Zeb is pushing forward things he knows will be approved. Ultimatelly, everything Nick Spencer did to bring both Peter and Spider-Man back to form have been undone in some way. Even with some awesome art and a few good nuggets, that's not enough to save this run

Superior Spider-Man is one of my favorite comic runs, and to see all that be undone with these new issues, having Otto regress back to villiany, it frustrates me.
The Otto stuff most definitely frustrates me alongside seeing Flash Thompson regress from his decades of progression and his time as Agent Venom.
Marvel complains about the "Status Quo" yet that's all they do. They're not pushing anything they're keeping things more stagnated than ever. I’m not trying to change anyone’s opinion about Well’s Spider-Man with this video. The run for all it’s weird choices it makes definitely deserves to be as controversial as it is. With that said, I haven’t seen a lot of(if any) complements on the run so I wanted to dedicate a good portion of the video doing so. Zeb Wells, though maybe not a great Spider-Man writer, is most definitely a good comics writer and wanted to make my main complaint about the overprotective companies that own the characters of Spider-Man and not an individual writer.
There's a LOT to unpack with this run, and I didn't even want to give it a chance due to the rest of the community being so disillusioned in recent with Ben returning as Sensational Spider-Man in the Beyond story line and the Chasm ending. With all of this run being so back and forth, combined with all the tie-ins and side plots, I've been scared to give any of it a chance. When I saw the reveal of "what Peter did," I was even more upset than ever. Your video is giving me another outlook on all this, and helping me put feelings to print whilst showing that there IS good with the Wells run. For that I thank you.

About Vulture I don't shore how it in modern comics, but during Stan Lee runs I think he was 2nd most important and dangerous Sinister Six member (Electro, Kraven, Sand Man, Mysterio, Vulture and Otto as Leader), he also was 1st Spider Man villian who appeared more then one time and in their 2nd encounter he literally almost kill him.
I did not know that. When talking Sinister 6 in current times, I think of Otto and Kraven before Vulture just in terms of big stories but I don't think I'm familiar with Toombes enough to know how strong he is. Thanks for the insight!
I mean, Spidey overcoming incredibly impossible odds while the world is constantly beating him down for it is empowering, but it’s gotten REAL old by now. And I think I’ve heard some people say that the best Spider-Man stories are when “Peter Parker wins, Spider-Man loses. And vice versa.” And if you ask me, that seems dumb. Why can’t they both win from time to time? I just want to see my favorite hero be happy. I want to see Pete and MJ be happy together. I hope maybe some other stories in other media can do that, and maybe in the comics too, but for now, that doesn’t seem likely.
I hope we get to see happy Peter Parker in 'Across the Spider-verse' and maybe Marvel will feel pressured to push the character towards that direction but I think thats just wishful thinking on my end.

This is a question I've always wondered about the JMS run in the second half of the run where the OMD stuff happened was that mainly editorial forcing him to write that because it didn't seem like something he wanted to do
Civil War really changed the direction of that run but JMS worked with what he was given(which was having to tie into an event where Spider-Man was heavily involved in). I love all of JMS's Spidey(except OMD) but his run is the best example of editorial mandates that a high profile character like Spider-Man is tied down with. Thanks for commenting btw❤️❤️❤️
I think while yes, Peter is not beyond forgiving his rogues, the fact he IS forgiving Norman isn't something HE would do. Not because he shouldn't, but because HE wouldn't. Sure, he may realize Norman isn't a bad guy anymore and that's fine and dandy, but Peter shouldn't and wouldn't form a relationship with someone such as Norman. Not even Brock got that treatment and he's both a good guy now and done a TON of good as well. Peter isn't holding grudges against Brock, but he isn't a close friend or anything of the sort. (But they both know they can ask for eachothers help.)
He wouldn't with Norman. That is what feels out of character, and his reasoning is such a flanderized version of his motto it hurts. "I need to help and accept him because its my RESPONSIBILITY"
And that's not at all the motto or how he acts in these scenarios. And, again, specially Norman! With how much evil he's done to him it's OK to realize he may not be evil anymore, but one just CAN'T shrug those actions off.

Great analysis of the story. I like that it's very objective. IMO the idea of Norman realising how horrible of a person he was and trying to do the right thing is good, and it's clear that Peter ISN'T over what happened. It brings tension and it's good stuff. But the characters, the tie ins and quite honestly the whole series of events/reason for Peter's isolation doesn't feel good to me, but forced, especially after the last issue. But like I said: overall agree with lil 90% of the stuff you said.
BTW You heard the leaks about what will happen? Where? I didn't catch them....
Twitter has a field mine of supposed leaks so if you want possible spoilers, I found them there(something about Peter and mutants(?)). This story is gonna get a lot harder to defend if these “leaks” happen. Also thanks for the comment! I can definitely see that perspective with Peter’s isolation in the beginning feeling forced(which it kind of is) especially after Spencer and the Beyond comics.

honestly I found this entire run to be a complete trainwreck from the very beginning and frankly it still drives me insane that marvel won't just pull that trigger and give us back the marriage between Peter parker and Mary jane yes but also a bonus have both of them becoming parents to their daughter mayday parker spider-girl is the best course of action to see this character move forward at least in my opinion, unfortnately we all know the answer why they won't pull that trigger because they believe peter being miserable 24/7 is the best course of action for this character to get any development to which I say bullshit that's not character development that's the exact opposite and makes the character not being able to mature and move forward with his story which is just sad and depressing to see this happened to my favorite hero 24/7 it ain't even funny but just sad at least in my opinion. That being said though I am glad you're enjoy this interesting run on amazing Spider-Man more then I am right now because at the end of the day we all have are own opinions. :)
It is heartbreaking seeing Spider-Man not being able to grow for almost 20 years. Especially since other comic characters were able to take that next step and still be just as relevant as their former selves(an example would be Superman). We will have to see if marvel will ever give Peter the chance to have stability back in his life. With that said, that’s my problem with the ASM title as a whole and not this new run specifically but for a continuation of a 60 year+ story, yea this Zeb Wells story is the biggest spit in the face to Spider-Man fans. I just wanted to defend the story as someone who returned to reading comics with this run. More importantly I’m happy that I’ve been able to have good discussions about this run where there is a mutual respect so I thank you for that :)

I stoped reading Spider-man Comics when this new run started so I don't know the context of comic #6 but, Flash Thomson died in the Red Goblin story ark. Correct me if I'm guessing wrong but maybe it's a flashback comic?
I likely have a much more unique perspective than most when it comes to this run. This is my first Spider-Man run and just series from Marvel set in the Marvel universe. (I specify that cause I've read the League of Legends comics which were made it partnership with Marvel) I took interest cause I saw he was with Black Cat and got curious as to what was happening. Upon learning what was happening I gave it a shot, I enjoyed more or less the same issues you did, but I also found some enjoyment in 6, 19, and 20. All 3 cause of the Black Cat and Peter stuff, but also I enjoyed the main Villain of 6 along with the pallet cleansers 19 and 20 were after Dark Web. Without all the baggage of reading past Spider-Man runs the story was overall good and interesting. My main issue was basically just like yours with the crossovers being awful (at least from the Spider-Man side of things, Black Cat and MJ Dark Web spin off was fun imo).
Even learning all the stuff from past runs I am still fine with him not being with MJ for 2 reasons. First, to see if they actually attempt something long term with Felicia since that hasn't really happened yet, and the more important second reason, if Mephisto is forever gonna ruin 616 Peter's relationship with MJ I'd rather him just be with someone else. Peter can't grow if Mephisto's existence constantly causes his relationship with MJ to get ruined. The only solution to this would be to tackle the Mephisto problem, but since they don't seem to want to do that, a soft reset of Spider-Man makes sense logically. (I do realize this current thing with Felicia could get ruined too, really all depends on how the arc of chapters 21-26 goes.) It's not like there aren't other universes like Peter B. Parker in Spiderverse where you can still consume their relationship if that's what you want. Ironically enough Peter B. Parkers daughter looks like the supposed 616 daughter that would stop Mephisto and with how the Spiderverse works it could legitimately be her as a twist of cruel irony.
Maybe I'm being cynical but they will ruin Felicia. Again. Because it has to be MJ and Peter. Editorials hav shown this since OMD. Because ad much as I loe tem as a couple I agree that he should have moved on. Characters like Silk were there to give him that chance an while it could be fan reaction I think it's more likely that Marvel is TERRFIED of making lasting changes in th story. I won happen because they can't risk that their star hero wouldn't be relatable even tough he's less relatable then ever. I think that a OMD retcon would be better but thate fine. I'm glad you enjoy it.
Y'know I never looked at issues 19 and 20 as palette cleansers, makes me appreciate them more. I think I mentioned it in the video once but this was my big reintroduction into the 616 canon(I had done the research and reading after) so I also have fondness toward this run. I think this new era appeals to new readers because of the switch up of the cast(like Black Cat being an even more prominent character) along with it building up the world around Spider-Man from the ground up. I think its too bad that it also had to constantly halt itself to address MJ and Peter's relationship or do events like Dark Web(I also agree the tie-ins were pretty cool I liked the X-Men ones). The thing with Felicia, MJ, and any other relationships Peter has been in, for that matter, is the editorial decision that he can't grow out of the highschool/college on-and-off "dating" schtick, a typical angle of the "young" Spider-Man they want to push. That's why Peter isn't allowed to keep his long term relationship with MJ, and it is also why Felicia wouldn't do any better, and we would end with whatever goes on between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, except Peter is broke instead of a multi-billionaire. They may pay some lip service by giving Peter a happy ending with a family in another universe, but they can easily relegate those to the corner and touch upon them every ten years or whatever. Main canon Peter is their punching bag because they desperately want to keep the "status quo"

You know what could easily have made all of this better? If Mephisto had a bit more involvement in everything that's happened since One More Day. If it was made clear that the deal made between the three of them was still being tightly upheld by Mephisto and he has been manipulating all of these events then fine, at least we'd have the eventual pay off of stopping Mephisto for a time be worth the hardships.
What makes it even easier is that with the purposal coming up in NIck Spencer's run, two of the three things MJ tried to stop when she whispered to Mephisto and made another deal would've come up.
The first being MJ remembers, which was already kind of outted back during the Kindred Storyline. Peter can never purpose to her again, thus we get Zeb Wells run setting everything to zero and Peter being back at rock bottom. This run should end with ether one of two things. First MJ and Peter do get back together, which at this point would be absolutely pointless honestly.
The second thing which could be just as controversial but understandable in the greater effort of getting rid of OMD for good, the girl that MJ has right now is Peter's daughter, and the second child was one she had artificially with Paul to hopefully throw off Mephisto. When Peter came back for her it kind of ruined things because now Mephisto would have his eyes on her and she cant be with Peter. This would tie in to the last part of her deal with Mephisto which was that she and Peter would never have a child. The fact that they finally have a daughter would mean the deal with Mephisto is finally being broken. Tie it into the Avengers Coucil of Red story and that being the means by which the deal was at least weakened, and then the next run of Spider-Man or the next big event for Spider-Man could be him going up against Mephisto and finally getting rid of his influence in his life, leaving him to be a dad and with MJ.
This would at the very least be reason to forgive the last decade of spider-man comics.
That would work as long-form story telling that ASM should aspire to be but I don't think Marvel editorial is wanting to bring up OMD.
@@ooshersego It's such a ridicious thing too. Like I in part agree with them Spider-Man should be single and alone. But here's the thing, the Hero as in the masked identity of Peter Parker should be that way. As Spider-Man he has to worry about a lot of people and if he had Black Cat or Mary Jane riding shotgun on his heroics, he'd be more worried about them than all the civilians or himself. Proof of that is him nearly dying trying to save Black Cat while being attacked by Vulture. Sadly one of the more traumatic lessons learned from Gwen's death.
But Peter Parker should not be the same loner that Spider-Man is. Marvel Editorials act of holding back Peter Parker is what is damaging both aspects of the character. So long as Peter Parker doesn't grow, Spider-Man can't grow because there would be such a huge disconnect between the two sides. Why is Spider-Man doing so well and has all these friends? If Peter Parker is barely making rent, can't hold a job, or a conversation.
They need to let go of this gorilla grip they have on the idea that Peter must always be this one way. I just made a post over on the spiderman reddit about how they could walk back OMD continuing from the Wells run and other books with the other Spider-People they could put out to bring in an even larger audience. I was discussing with some commenters about how Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Arrow, and so many other superheroes have their own cast and families of superheroes. The fact that Marvel Comics insists on Peter Parker being the family man he should’ve been years ago being regulated to alternative universe, for the sake of keeping him relatable for a younger audience is saddening. Especially when the majority of younger people are all in for that if Mayday in Across The Spider-Verse says anything.
I would say most(if not all) of the younger audience of Spider-Man comics are down to have Miles Morales as the main line Spider-Man and have Peter be "Spider-Dad" so this active decision the company makes is so dumb. Also I loved your video on this new Spider-Man run!

I also hate them bringing back Ben and making him evil again, just let them both be spiderman, pete amazing and ben sensational. Perhaps I bias, but I do try to set it aside when I criticise something like this. I don't like the current run of Spider-Man. But I like some of it, and I know it can be better, I've seen it. I can tell that Zeb Wells cares about Spider-Man. 100%. He wants to write stories that people will enjoy, and some do, but for me it has all been very unsatisfying. Most stories come across half-baked, rushed, with little enough set-up to pay off the next big thing leaving the time and money given to a book (that's honestly too expensive for the amount of mistakes that occur with misspellings or continuity errors pages apart from each other) making me feel like I've been cheated in some way. I wanted to like it, I was actually enjoying the series up until issue 26 where I just stopped reading it altogether. I've been reading this book since 2014, and in that time I hadn't seen anything that really upset me like this has. What I mean to say is that nothing has been given the time it needs to develop or breath, leading to most of it feeling superficial.

I never had a problem with Vulture messing up Peter so bad, mostly because he literally catched Peter off-guard and destroyed his web-shooters. Without them, Peter has no real way to beat Vulture. So he needed to either escape (with Vulture still chasing him) or go and get the Oscorp suit to beat him.
Miles Morales beat the Vulture now.

I’ve been meaning to read more FF and will check it out. Also, I do wish I’d gone deeper into why the MJ and Peter break up was so infuriating, especially the character assassination of MJ in the new run which most definitely feels like Wells’s decision(him constantly cutting back to her and Paul for no narrative purpose except pissing off MJ fans)

superior spider man second issue where doc oct is back and try to kills everyone, doesnt make any sense as in earlier issue he spend so much time to became a superior spider-man and save city and even sacrifice himself but still in second issue they just scrapped it!
Alright rant time. I have collected Amazing Spider-Man for years. Every writer has done something right, and also wrong. IMO writers need to dive away from this whole Peter cannot be happy bs. A great ASM comic run has science, character arc (includes relationships), and consequence. Parker Industries was widely disliked but I loved the idea of exploring Peter with power, fame, and wealth since we have only ever seen him poor.

Why does anyone even read Marvel and DC anymore?
It’s all so poorly-managed and whatever change or evolution the character goes through will be retconned out of existence and they’ll just be back on the same continuous hamster wheel of fighting the same villains.

It is frustrating to see characters like Spider-Man who were great for the freedom they brought to writers but the comics in the big 2 are now being made by fans of these characters and I think many are doing a great job writing them with care(like Zdarsky’s Daredevil or alot of the Williamson stuff over at DC). But as for evolution, yea it sucks that that’s no longer an option the corporations are considering🫤.

Superior Spider-Man is one my favorite Spider-Man stories told in the past decade and I think Slott's run as a whole is fun, I just think he was on the book a little too long and he usually tells big Spider-Man stories so I think that's why we got stuff like Parker's industry. As for Wells? Well...I made a video talking about how I liked a good portion of the run sooo I think he's not the worst writer but I'm definitely biased🙃. Personally, I think the stories sandwiched between the Clone Saga and the JMS run are the worst But again, I'm biased.

I get what you're saying, but these little bits are just not enough to offset all the trash. It's not that Peter has to win every time, it's that after all those years, Peter is still stuck in that "relatable" limbo. He's been in and out of relationships for years, but he fumbles and acts like an awkward teenager with Felicia. He makes a deal with Norman effing Osborn, and gets his ass kicked by the Vulture. *The Vulture,* an old geezer with wings. He's back to being broke and depressed because the plot literally demands it, and of course, once again Mary Jane has her character assassinated because we quite literally can't have them be together and happy. It's been done before, ad nauseum, and every time they up the "throwing Peter into the concrete face first" game because there's only so much shock value these stuns can evoke in the fans
As you said, perhaps, with the benefit of the doubt, this run could be seen as good un isolation, but honestly, why should we even look at it like that. Zeb keeps bringing old stuff back so there's no reason to see it as a standalone. It's just the same old narrative underpinned by "Parker Luck" and the worst part is knowing it is all purposefully meant to spite the fans. The editorial legit told Zeb to avoid cons, alluding to that's coming next. They know it will be controversial, and they want it that way. I guess it does work to keep engagement, but it's Spider-Man! That's the last marvel character that needs those cheap tricks to keep relevant. Also, I'm still of the opinion that Paul is a self-insert, to the tune of "I'm Not Starfire" and "Velma".
I love to see Peter struggle, but the point of it all is that he *overcomes* it in the end. Life hits him and he gets up again, but when there's only bashing, what exactly am I supposed to expect from the story? To me it's mostly editorial and Zeb is pushing forward things he knows will be approved. Ultimatelly, everything Nick Spencer did to bring both Peter and Spider-Man back to form have been undone in some way. Even with some awesome art and a few good nuggets, that's not enough to save this run
