Thanks for sharing the new exciting song! Clicked, viewed and liked!
So glad I'm not the only imperfect one, as much of a perfectionist that I am.
And then watching adorable Ziggy catching mosquitoes I realize that animals ARE perfect, aren't they?!

Here is a quote from Master Sheng Yen’s “The Method of No Method: The Chan Practice of Silent Illumination”:
“There are many methods of meditation one may practice, but one practices true Buddhadharma only in the light of correct views. Any method can transport our narrow sense of self to one that is unified with the universe. However, when guided by the correct views of Buddhism, we can go beyond this great self and unity toward no-self and liberation. The principles that should guide our practice are impermanence, emptiness, and no-self. By applying these guiding principles to our practice we can realize liberation. …”
That is how Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi is reached.

Even shorter: “Nothing is always, and everything depends.“ (Murphy's Law) - As I understand Master Shenyan, he proposed the “classic“ holistic methodology of “entrance by thinking, entrance by doing“ (li ru, xing ru), only, his Dharma-talks are far more “ad cathedram“ than Master Dogen's, who rather prefers a kind of “twilight-language“. Well, is this insight and/or oversight? Hermeneutics seemingly are asymptotical. Makes me also think of M. McLuhan (paraphrased): “We look at the present through the rear-view mirror; we march backwards into the future.“ -Regards

This is nice. I haven't been on a retreat, I haven't been on a monastery. I've only done meditation for about 20 years now. I used to like those long Buddhist check lists. I felt that they're giving me a sense of where I am. Now I think you're right. It feels just like awakening, like going out of a room and looking at yourself from memory being there inside behaving in the silly way you behaved. It mostly feels funny sometimes pathetic. I don't know if it can be perfect. After all you always sleep and you always dream, so you always get caught up in things ...Maybe it is just making these realizations more of a consistent rhythm of your life.

The dream ladder analogy is right. In my case i had all this terror of annihilation and death, my whole system was in the grip of these agonising horrors. Suddenly it clearly dawned (somewhat dramatically because it was like everything dissolved the sensory world and the mind) it was somehow absolutely clear that i was never born, so i how can i die. Everything appears and disappears in Me, but i never appear or disappear. It dawned in a most unmistakable way and the previous fear drama fell into unreality. A kind of death that ends death.
Prior to that id come to a lot of clarity through mediation and discrimination and a series of mystical 'experiences' followed that undid my previous way of thinking.. it was like everything was put the right way up.. instead of considering myself as a localised bodymind subject, the bodymind was localised in my unlocalised presence, instead of thinking there is a me and an other, everything appearing in this Me that is the same in all, instead of thinking I'm an individual doer, actions are happening but I'm the pristine awareness that does nothing.. My teacher Ramesh confirmed it face to face, then then even published my 'declaration' in one of his books.. and i have a letter of his telling me how happy he is that ive received the teaching.. but I didn't quite think it was over and it was a little embarrassing a few years later when i was reeling with all this existential terror haha. .
So I'm not sure i understand it, but whatever insight, obviousness and clarity there was it still took a little while to unravel this center of fear it seems. Ive had people contact me who are dealing with existential fear and i don't know what to tell them. I generally say take a step back, discriminate between the seer and the seen, get established in the witness consciousness or impersonal I am, its the best basis for when the shit really hits the fan and one is facing something that feels like death or ultimate dissolution. Faith or trust is necessary that there is an intelligence behind it all that will reintegrate just as it disintegrates.. Or all will be resolved into its ineffable source which lacks nothing and is complete fullness/emptiness. So what is there to fear. That's my experience, even if the whole world disappears nothing is lost.. The essence of beauty, love, peace that we seek externally, we are that so can never lose it.

A recent phenomenon which drives me crazy is "enlightenment *experience*". I think the last thing we need is an experience: life's experience after experience, and it all gets in the way. I mean, sure everything is kinda an experience in some way, but when you've got two words and you choose that as one of them, my heart sinks.

It is said there is no self in the Dharmas. I don't mean to confuse people. So what does a Buddist like me mean when they say authentic self rather than imaginary self. Well isn't it obvious it is just means for practical purposes a changing area of location e.g ' pass me the salt', that one feels comfortable with and is wholesome with trouble abandoned. No pretence no stress - authentic.

The perfect etc, etc, makes itself known, despite all the previous ruminations about it, should they occur. Up until that moment there was just wrong view or striving, for right view, if that's what your intention was, because it takes your intention for perfect etc etc to set yourself on the path. Such enlightenment cannot arise without the path and your intention to follow it. Sooner or later, you get a big surprise. Whatever you call yourself, Brad included. C-L-I-C-K-E-D O-N L-I-N-K B-R-A-D
