Most of my wardrobe is from the thrift store, and I'm glad that styles are going back to basics and less gaudy (chains, cold shoulder, etc). Shopping at the thrift store means that my wardrobe is unique and like no one else's.
Anna you are so kind and diplomatic. Let's be real and admit all those tops that are out of style look well....cheap. Clean, classic, understated will always be in. You are so gracious!
I see people get a little triggered and say “wear what makes you happy” but I totally understand where Anna’s coming from and I even admit that sometimes even some of the things I wear become outdated and I’m quick to check my appearance and upgrade my style. Anna is a big help! ❤
My motto is wear what you love, don't follow trends or worry too much about what is in or out. If you love it, odds are it looks great on you. Confidence is almost a style on it's own...
Instead of feeding into trolls, just do what i do and report their comments to TH-cam and when they eventually get banned theyll watch their mouths@@cindykelly808
Me too. I only buy beautiful things. I knew better than to buy those trendy knot shirts, strappy necklines, etc. I look at something & say if I saw myself in a picture wearing that five years later & would be embarrassed, I won't buy it. I do occasionally mess up though.
The only items I will keep wearing are graphic tees. I never had logo tees or any of the rest of those tops. But tshirts plain or graphic will never be out of style.
I have never worn any of these. Never did the logo thing, even on purses and tote bags. Hate the bell sleeves, the cold shoulder and cut outs, the built in ties, and the criss-cross neck lines. I have always thought most of these looks look cheap. So far I don't and never have had any of these. I'm a pretty classic dresser though.
"It's just going to create clutter in your brain..." This is such a great phrase to describe clothing you feel ambivalent about. Not just a cluttered closet but cluttered thinking as well. Awesome!
I love when you made the comment about wearing logos. They should pay us. We’re advertising for them for free. Great video like always. Thanks for the input.
100% it is also seems like if a designer has to rely on you wanting to show the logo off.. it doesn’t have a unique enough style to hold its own without that
I’ve never worn anything with logos because I’ve always said it’s silly for me to advertise for a brand for free. 😂 Also, I was just out shopping with my grandmother yesterday and I swear almost every sweater had the unnecessary buttons down the sleeves. So maybe they’re not totally out? Lol. I’ve always hated that design and I was so frustrated because I was looking for sweaters specifically. Tacky design elements like that really ruin an otherwise decent garment so often. I have a very classic and minimalist style so I never liked any of these trends because I thought they were stupid looking (crisscross neck details, cold shoulder, giant logos, excess/unnecessary buttons, bell sleeves, etc) just give me a nice cashmere sweater and some trousers, nice accessories and quality shoes and I’m good. Glad to know my “boring” style is trending in the form of old money aesthetic. 😂
Wow! We were well off growing up, but my mother made us wear hand me down clothes from our cousins. She grew up wearing the newest latest clothes & got bullied for it, so she didn’t want to do that to us. So i’m really not surprised that what I wear (mostly) is out of style. My mom taught us that we don’t need expensive clothing. We were in band, choir, many national pageants, gymnastics, piano ect. So that where she spent money for us, experiences are much more important. 😊
I love your content and have been a follower since you were under 20K subscribers! I wanted to point out that a 'button down' shirt has actual buttons on the shirt to button the collar down (the "tips" of the collar have slits in them to attach to buttons on the shirt), and a 'button up' shirt just has buttons on the front to button all the way up. I loved learning the difference so I hope you and others do, too :)
All I really need is a few pairs of jeans, a few pairs of trousers, a few basic Ts. A few dressy blouses, and some GREAT accessories like jewelry, bags, and shoes. I'm decluttering my closet! My goal for 24 is to get rid of anything that looks faddish.
Bell sleeves were a pain! Remember the tops with the floral body and the striped sleeves? I moved and downsized closet space and was brutal with getting rid of clothes. I think leaning towards solids for me at 50 is the best way to look timeless. I may wear stripes or plaid but I'm done with florals and weird geometric tops.
It always makes me ‘wonder’ why people do not delete a video when they read a title that doesn’t interest or pertain to, in this case clothes, what they would or wouldn’t wear. It’s not always what WE want & WE are not the only person a video is made. Simply skip through or…..don’t watch.
If you know how to sew, put a cuff on your bell sleeve tops. If you’re going to really get rid of something in your closet, look at ways to upcycle or change it. Or turn it into something completely different. Or give it to someone who can. It’s fun to think out of the “donate to thrift shop” box.😅
My wardrobe is so pared down at the moment, but I'm having purchase anxiety. Is anyone else? The problem is that paying $100/$200+ for a top doesn't guarantee any quality, and doesn't mean it will last any longer than a $25 top. This is new - and wasn't always so but seems to be more and more common. It's making me afraid to spend any money, as I don't want to waste it. I'm a classic dresser, but even the cashmere (which is everywhere at the moment for around $50-$100) doesn't feel like quality. I am an older sub (make that old!) and I remember buying Merino wool which was softer and better quality than a lot of the cashmere offered these days. I hear that because of all this cheap cashmere , Mongolian grazing lands are becoming depleted. Sad. I have things in my wardrobe that are 15 years old, and things that I bought last year that I have already donated as they just didn't hold up. What's going on? Regardlesss - Merry Christmas to you and your family, and thanks for all the great videos!
Anna, ty for this, will wait excitedly for your jewelry one upcoming! I'm cleaned out, starting over this Winter '24, but with you, here's the no fuss no muss education. Love ya.
I don’t want “more affordable” slave-made, synthetic clothing promoted, I want natural-fiber, high-quality, eco-friendly and ethically-made premium clothing promoted. TH-cam is already flooded with Walmart, Target, etc., hauls that I never watch.
Thank you! Channels that push toxic cheap Chinese crap are a dime a dozen. I have unsubscribed to them all. No Walmart, Amazon or Target hauls. If you want a "go cheap" day, cover designer consignment.
My daughter worked for Francesca’s years ago when she was in High School and even with her employee discount never bought any items of clothing from there because even as a teen…she had standards! It’s not that we were wealthy either…she either thrifted her wardrobe or saved for the best she could realistically obtain. I sew, so I was able to teach her about fabric composition and clothing construction. She can spot wonky stitching a mile away 😉. Francesca’s clothing is definitely not made to last more than a few wears with the cheap cottons and high polyester and acrylics they use. The subpar construction is really evident in the blazer you showed and the dolman/batwing top is going to pill like crazy. I would also say that dolman/batwing tops are really dated now, but a raglan sleeve is always in style. I know content creators have to make a living, but this is really setting the bar low. Sort of like selling your soul to the devil 👿…
Yeah, I would never shop there either. None of their stuff ever impressed me. It all looked pretty cheaply made and definitely over priced for what it was. These YT’ers will shill anything 🤑.
I absolutely hate that the tees I bought from Maurice's, pill after one year! So while I enjoyed the tee or tank, I had to literally throw out. I learned
For once, I agree with what is considered out of style. And what makes me so happy is to see more natural fiber fabrics and such after so many years of poorly made, plastic clothing.
Well, I've a lot of band tees, but wear them only at concerts and festivals. Only sometimes I wear some of them on a day time and always with my leather jacket and jeans. It says - Rock n Roll, baby! 🤘😁🤘
I'm planning to wear a t-shirt dressed up for NYE...why? Concert and Vegas! I have a white GO GOs t-shirt with the album cover where they're wearing their face masks and dressed in towels. Black faux suede high waist strait leg pants, an oversized Purple blazer and my black leather Louboutin booties. And to "Vegas" the outfit a bit, a statement bib necklace, cocktail ring and my magenta jeweled clutch.
😂oh my! All those tops you’ve mentioned really need to go! I feel like I bought those in the early 2000’s when I was really young and even then I thought they look a bit cheap
For the last few seasons, trends have gone steadily towards plain, quiet, laid back style. The trouble with that is, the cost. Busy prints, frills and chains and knots make it easy to hide poor quality of fabric and manufacturing - to the delight of cheap stores and market stalls. Plain has to be good quality. Anyway you are right about puttng things away rather than getting rid of them. I predict a swing back to romantic fashion with frills (not bells and whistles I hope) and prints, before too long
Most likely due to the economy? In my opinion, it's quite hard to make the pieces with chains, prints and logos on them not look cheap.😮 I think with the logo shirts, it makes it look like people are trying too hard. Such as, Ralph Lauren, I have a couple of button up blouses with the "RL" in the corner. They're made with quality fabric, have lasted awhile, and still look good. It doesn't scream "Ralph Lauren," but the quality of the shirts look a lot classier than the ones I find at Banna Republic.
I still like a graphic tee & blazer, but never went for the "quotes" on clothing, at all. In that same vein I'm OVER the home goods "word" and quotes items too! I have only one Christmas pillow left that says "Merry & Bright" (so overdone now) but kept it because it goes with a throw I love and still use.
Hi Anna. I totally agree. All of the clothes you mentioned are a definite NO for me. I was just talking to a friend of mine about the cold shoulder and those tacky lattice crossed front tops. You can't convince some people that there's better " options. " 🤷🏽♀️
Not gonna lie, i adore the bell sleeves, they’re just so feminine, beautiful and remind me of my goth days. Same for the right kind of cross cross top, it’s still fun and sexy to me. But I make sure I style it in a different more modern way so that it still looks good.
For once I did something right! I never wore those slogan tee shirts, big logos, criss cross, chain detail tops, cold shoulder and tied shirts. I always preferred basics, or what I thought was basic. I'm still wearing the cropped linen pants with sport sandals and carrying one of my huge collection of Baggalinis tote bags, but now I can feel just a little smug! Yay!
I liked this video! I am working slowly on cultivating my own personal style, and honestly this helped me see that I don't care what's on trend much at all anymore. Thanks :)
Okay. . . great video-AGAIN. I’m not much on trends, really. I’m not going to wear flair or barrel leg jeans. I can tie my own tops. The “bell sleeve” was a nightmare (for the reasons you mentioned. . . ) and someone else mentioned no more cheaply made or fast fashion clothes, and I agree. One of the things I’m completely swearing off is Amazon clothing. Unless it’s a specific tried and true brand I can’t find anywhere else, I can’t trust the materials. I just got two sweatshirts and the only way I can describe the fabric is SLIMY. (Shudder) I need to physically TOUCH the item. Yeah, I’m weird about textures! HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!♥️
@@doricetimko5403 Glad I’m not the only one. We’re finding out (mainly because of our children) that my cousins and I might have some autistic traits that we never knew about. It now makes so much sense.
I’ve always wondered why we feel compelled to wear these big companies’ logos. How ridiculous. They can charge a lot because we want to pretend we can afford them. “Guilty “
All of your "out of style" pieces were never actually "in style" for real fashionistas. They were/are "suburban mommy wear" and many of those mommies will continue to wear them for decade to come because it was "in style" during their heyday, before babies and family.
You can update that sweater with an awesome wide silver buckled western belt wide leg jeans or blue jean maxi skirt lots of turquoise jewelery.... Dont forget the cowboy boots....
What was Francesca's thinking when they put that white care label at the bottom of that knit dress?!? 🙄 That aside, great video as always Anna! I really dislike brand logo tops, and to a lesser extent the "words" tops. I do love a good graphic t-shirt though, if it's a graphic that resonates with me. I describe my personality style as classic, unfussy with some unexpected edge. I'll wear a graphic t-shirt with a business suit (ie pants or skirt + blazer) and edgy footwear. It's one of my classic work looks and I love it!
It's funny that you say buttons on your shirts that don't do anything. Just a couple videos ago you were wearing sweaters from sezane that did just that. Lol maybe it's just how it's executed I suppose. I agree that it looks cheap. If it doesn't serve a purpose I feel it takes away from the garment (exactly how I felt about the ones from Sezane too actually)
I'll keep wearing graphic tees I still like but I already decided not to buy more. My new ones are solid colors in a cotton hemp. I still like prints generally but there's hardly anything that actually looks good lately... thrift finds, perhaps.
I too, love the out of style videos. Personally, I’m waiting for the “white sneakers” with everything look to pass. I know I’m the only one and that’s OK!
White sneakers in general, or with certain outfits? Such as, a white top, black jeans and white sneakers? Or an all white outfit that makes it look flowing in one piece? Or white sneakers with everything regardless of the outfit? I can see where the pet peeve is. White sneakers get dirty quickly, and they look very casual. I have an off white pair that has a platform colorful sole I wear with a more "fun" outfit. They add a touch of color to the casual pieces. 😊
I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s and white sneakers were so embarrassing to wear because everyone would remark about how you got new sneakers and then they would step on them with their dirty muddy shoes.
@@ladonnabarker2983 Funny! Reminds me of a marathon training group I was in. You’d go through a few pairs of shoes during training and whenever one of the guys would have new shoes we would mock them mercilessly. Hey, new shoe boy! They learned quickly to rub dirt on them. We never made fun of the girls though.
Ms Anna, How do you get your head around getting the styles that are out of styles? You are guuuuud! And giving a little help, twist of what is ...fresher, really is fantastic! You are genuine and spontaneous Ms Anna, we LOVE it! Happy Christmas...really! Get some zen times and keep on laughing, life is beautiful! (with you around!!!) helene :) 💌
I don’t like reading peoples clothing, or having them read mine, anymore than i like walking into houses full of signs ?! I don’t need to be told to LIVE LOVE LAUGH. I don’t need signs to read in bathrooms telling me what to do, or living room, or kitchen or laundry rooms. Good Grief
Always love your videos. You know that chain of stores based in Florida? No, not Chicos. lol. The one that shows capri’s and shark cut hems still…….and long shirts that cut off legs…drives me nuts. Yeah, I live in Florida. When I first moved here I thought that was the store to shop. Thank goodness I found you. 😅
I know exactly which store you are talking about, lol. I moved to southwest Florida 3 years ago, and there are so few choices for quality, weather appropriate clothing. Tired of going to major retailers and seeing heavy winter items this time of year.
So the bell sleeves - I think they're still around, but they've calmed them down a lot, and they're nowhere near as dramatic. I just bought a gorgeous Banana Republic sweater that has what they're calling a "flare" sleeve. Also have you noticed that the flashy tops in general are on the outs and it seems to be all about the pants now? I'm so drawn in by cute pants, and I'm totally bored with tops. I'd rather just wear a plain tee and something like those Saint & Sofia ponte pants with the stripes down the sides!
OMG, yes, I have a bell sleeve sweater and it looks great on but try to reach for something at the dinner table! It's ridiculous! Between that, the criss-cross front and the general look of some of these items, it seems like we were living in a Rennaissance, queen for a day, fantasy of life!
I've only shopped at Francesca’s for accessories. I know they have clothing, but I wasn't into "boutique" stuff. I'm now bring on the small boutique!! and forget those big box stores :-)
So THAT'S what they're called: dolman sleeves! 🤣 I've always loved this style and have several. I especially love the look on sweaters. I've never been a fan of huge logos and won't wear them. I agree: I don't want to be an unpaid walking billboard/advertisement. I LOVE the bell sleeves. I'm going to keep mine and wait for them to come around again, if I'm still not wearing them. But, yeah, simply trying to wash my hands without also washing my sleeves is a bit ridiculous. 🤣 Okay, so apologies in advance, but I'm going to be THAT person. Please say jew-WEL-ry, not jew-LER-ry. 🙈🙊😁
hi Anna! Love your videos. I asked you in previous video if you could share the brand and color of the red lipstick you are wearing in a lot of your videos. You didn't reply. Maybe you're keeping it a secret?
I've never liked graphics on a T-shirt, I have a top that's not tied up but it kinda wraps which I like. I have tons of black pants all different styles so they are in style always! I've never like to wear name brand logos it seems pretentious to me.
I love cut out shirts and dresses but only in solid black! My son calls them my Bono shirts, I have a tattoo of our late cat Bono and he pops up out of it). But the trick with shirts that have a knot, cut out or some form of tie or anything, not to wear anything to different or bizarre with it, otherwise it gets too much and that looks horrible.
Most of my wardrobe is from the thrift store, and I'm glad that styles are going back to basics and less gaudy (chains, cold shoulder, etc). Shopping at the thrift store means that my wardrobe is unique and like no one else's.

I got many cute clothes from Francesca’s. I have a green tunic with keys all over it from Francesca’s and get a lot of compliments on it 😊
Love that! I have a skirt I bought 15 years ago I still wear to this day 😄
Okay. . . great video-AGAIN.
Texture is a priority for me too!❤
@@doricetimko5403 Glad I’m not the only one. We’re finding out (mainly because of our children) that my cousins and I might have some autistic traits that we never knew about. It now makes so much sense.
Hey, sometimes I want an animal print, chain outfit I can wear with big hair as I chomp gum. Viva la Nanny look!...sometimes 😂
I’m with you on graphic t shirts, feels like high school
I’ve always wondered why we feel compelled to wear these big companies’ logos. How ridiculous. They can charge a lot because we want to pretend we can afford them. “Guilty “
The exception to “minimal details” is contrast-color piping or edging, this classic looks very fresh right now.
Ralph Lauren kind of stuff.
All of your "out of style" pieces were never actually "in style" for real fashionistas. They were/are "suburban mommy wear" and many of those mommies will continue to wear them for decade to come because it was "in style" during their heyday, before babies and family.
I passed the test! I don’t have/never wore any of the “dated” pieces.
You must stick to the classics! 🤩🙌
You can update that sweater with an awesome wide silver buckled western belt wide leg jeans or blue jean maxi skirt lots of turquoise jewelery.... Dont forget the cowboy boots....
I’ve got a question for you… What do you think about velour joggers??? Are they in or out??? Frumpy or not?? I have seen both options 🤷♀️
What was Francesca's thinking when they put that white care label at the bottom of that knit dress?!? 🙄
That aside, great video as always Anna!
Nothing is out if style. Wear whatever makes you feel good
It's funny that you say buttons on your shirts that don't do anything.
I love the one shoulder sweaters/tops you did include on the approved look .. where are they from ?
I have one top that has to be tied at the bottom. Comfy and I’m thinking just making it to a straight hem ( yes, I can sew)
This year has brought me to a place of… fashion has wore me out. Happy with basics that I accessorize. Done!
I'll keep wearing graphic tees I still like but I already decided not to buy more. My new ones are solid colors in a cotton hemp. I still like prints generally but there's hardly anything that actually looks good lately... thrift finds, perhaps.
Bell sleeves are back in fashion#hippievibes ❤
Love your videos ❣️❣️❣️Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours 🎉🥂❤️
I do agree on almost all of these.
But, I wear the wide sleeve tops to collect as my ketchup as I can! That really made me giggle! 😅
Oh, and I never understood oversized earrings..
Same
@@Leo-mr1qz I like white sneakers for an athletic event.
The red lipstick really lights up your face!
Thanks so much Anna! Merry Christmas!🎄🎄🎄
Ms Anna,
How do you get your head around getting the styles that are out of styles?
You are guuuuud! And giving a little help, twist of what is ...fresher, really is fantastic!
You are genuine and spontaneous Ms Anna, we LOVE it!
Happy Christmas...really! Get some zen times and keep on laughing, life is beautiful! (with you around!!!)
helene :) 💌
Love this, Helene!! Merry Christmas! ❤️
Wish Francesca’s had some plus sizes. Very outdated not to offer more sizes. Just saying!!
The shirts with knotting or ties at the bottom were never flattering on anyone. Good riddance.
Good Grief
Those twisty knot shirts are heinous
I am interested in the dress (Francesca). Does it run through this size? Is there any stretch? Thanks for another great video!
You keep anything long enough it will come back in style!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Always love your videos. You know that chain of stores based in Florida? No, not Chicos. lol. The one that shows capri’s and shark cut hems still…….and long shirts that cut off legs…drives me nuts. Yeah, I live in Florida. When I first moved here I thought that was the store to shop. Thank goodness I found you. 😅
I know exactly which store you are talking about, lol. I moved to southwest Florida 3 years ago, and there are so few choices for quality, weather appropriate clothing. Tired of going to major retailers and seeing heavy winter items this time of year.
@@elainevogel2231 isn’t it nuts? lol. Now I mostly do online. Banana Republic., Loft, Chicos. Northport has some nice shopping.
I love your channel! Thanks for sharing! 💕
Bell sleeves I'm not sure about cause 70s is kinda in right now.... am I wrong?
Pleased to say I’ve never worn any of these styles, always plain t shirts & shirts for me.
A grahic t with a blazer is still very much on trend
OMG, yes, I have a bell sleeve sweater and it looks great on but try to reach for something at the dinner table! It's ridiculous! Between that, the criss-cross front and the general look of some of these items, it seems like we were living in a Rennaissance, queen for a day, fantasy of life!
I've only shopped at Francesca’s for accessories. I know they have clothing, but I wasn't into "boutique" stuff. I'm now bring on the small boutique!! and forget those big box stores :-)
All is this why I don’t like trendy stuff- I can wear classic clothes forever
Definitely! ❤️❤️
A lot of these styles that are 'out' are currently featured, still (a plenty), on Stitch Fix, and they are pricey, too - so, this is good news - lol!
And for those who still love their tees with writing, all over the Paris runways for Spring 2024. Will be very high-end.
I love your videos!
I love Francescas!!!
lol I have started weeding my graphic tees out of my closet but I refuse to get rid of my pumpkin spice t shirt
You should do some looks with the clothing brand vici. I’ve been finding the cutest stuff from there !
Nice tip. Thanks. Off to view that brand.
Yes! I get so many compliments when I wear my pieces from Vici. Great color choices too.
😊
Love Vici! ❤️❤️❤️
Okay, so apologies in advance, but I'm going to be THAT person. Please say jew-WEL-ry, not jew-LER-ry. 🙈🙊😁
A floral cold shoulder top, with crisscross, chains with a tie on the bottom, bell sleeves and a logo on the front would be outdated lol
Haha yes! 🤣
Couldn’t agree more. Being a walking advertisement has never been stylish in my opinion.
I love franchescas! Everytime I go I find something! These comments 😂
hi Anna! Love your videos. I asked you in previous video if you could share the brand and color of the red lipstick you are wearing in a lot of your videos. You didn't reply. Maybe you're keeping it a secret?
No gate keeping here!! I definitely didn’t see the comment. It’s Bobby Brown lipstick in redefined! ❤️
@@ANNAREID29 Awwww.😍 Thanks Anna. You're the best. You're my fashion guru. 😘
I love the styles you show but can you include the plus size community.
Brand logos like Ganni, Picante, and Jill Sanders are really in right now.
Enjoyed this video.
Where are your large gold half circle earrings from? Love them! ❤
Boring is on trend
I've never liked graphics on a T-shirt, I have a top that's not tied up but it kinda wraps which I like. I have tons of black pants all different styles so they are in style always! I've never like to wear name brand logos it seems pretentious to me.
The Francesca's clothes are also fashion😂
Hey Anna! Love your channel. I’d love to know where the bold gold statement earrings you’re wearing are from during the FRANCESCA’s ad please
I love these videos 💗
