Hello Amy & Maggie, I was really glad I got to take a picture with you two at Dice Tower West. Also I got a sticker from Amy YAY. But the funny thing is I got home from the airport, went to my local game store and bought this.

Great review! We enjoy auctions and trick taking games, plus the "theme" would appeal to us as well. The illustrations look appealing, anyway. Added to the wish list! (Bonus points for Amy's delightful nail choice). :)

I ordered this from the publisher on Feb. 1, the day preorders opened up. The game arrived quickly in the mail. Last night I played it solo twice in preparation for a short trip later this week, when I'll hopefully be teaching it to a couple of friends. I like the art and the clever mechanics of the game. Once you get the hang of it, turns go very quickly and as you mentioned, the different goal cards look to keep things interesting. The challenge of how and when to move cards around in your vault to score more points is a good one! Glad to see you cover this little gem. Very pleased with this one.

Hi Amy and Maggie! I grew up playing a lot of themeless trick-taking games like Hearts, Spades, Euchre, etc. Strangely, I don't have much of an affinity for abstract games these days, but I still do enjoy those three card games! Maybe it's just due to nostalgia. They're kind of like comfort food I suppose.
But I do like the look of Goblin Vaults. I've been hearing some good buzz about it. I think Steph Hodge (is she affiliated with bgg?) and Alex @BoardGameCo had nice things to say about the game. It actually gives me a kind of Nidavellir vibe with the bidding and tableau / set collection. I may pick this one up. Looks like fun!
And if Maggie does want to know how the theme relates to the game, she should give Roll Player Adventures a shot. It's got a lot of story, and my understanding is that this game is set in the Roll Player universe. Maybe it links better to Lockup? Hmm....

Great to see a game that isn’t being covered elsewhere. It’s probably a pass for us because we play most often at 2, but I love the artwork. Reminds me of the Too Many Bones Loot cards!

Wow, thanks for sharing this one! I've been thinking I'd love a new auction game - this looks so simple(ish) and interesting!

I already love Thunderworks Games and this game sounds awesome. I'm buying it.

Agree. Preordered it because I like Thunderworks, and wasn't disappointed. Since it plays up to 5p and relatively quickly, it's an ideal "weekly meetup" game

Thanks for the video! I also was intrigued and immediately pre-ordered & obtained the game. :)
Goblin Vaults could be considered a "fictional game"-games that appear in works of fiction (per a recent Jamey Stegmaier video). Games like Dejarik (holographic chess in Star Wars), Quests of Yore ("Onward" film), Triple Triad (Final Fantasy VIII), and Three Dragon Ante (Dungeons & Dragons).
Goblin Vaults itself is sort of a spin-off to the Roll Player Tale area-control, hidden-information game Lockup. As said, what can inmates do to pass the time? :)

I have all things Roll Player and had not gotten around to looking at this yet, for some reason. Just ordered it while watching you talk about it. Love the sound of it. For those who love Roll Player Adventures and Lockup, any chance there's at least the slightest thematic vibe to the game? :)

The whole backstory for this one revolves around how the goblins play a card game in prison in secret to pass the time, using gears that drop from the automaton guards as the only currency they can find. And *this* is supposed to be that very card game that they play. So while there's no theme really in the gameplay itself, the backstory is what makes it for me.
      Hopefully, that makes sense

We finally agree on a game! We love this one ;) Have you tried the game that this one is themed inside? (Lockup)

Looks fun! Have you tried Hats? It's different but I wonder if it produces the same feeling. 🤔

I'm hoping to be ordering this game on Thursday which is payday for me, and the day I usually order my games.
This one looks like a great game, but there's just one teeny weeny fly in the ointment, something that's petty and stupid on my part, but it really does bug me; any idea what it is?
Well, it's the fact the tableau is only ten cards, leaving two columns looking like they're one card short. I know this is a silly little complaint, but it just irks me when I see the thing looking like it isn't complete, why didn't they design the game so it would let us play twelve cards into the tableau instead of ten?
Mind you, I'm still buying it, it looks like a fun game, but those ten cards are just... Grrrr 😖😤
