@@adrastos8401 The Subjugator itself is intrinsically ugly and I think that was a deliberate choice on the part of the SW:tCW art team. She's meant to look like something that was built around the super ion cannon with all other considerations secondary to that.
I wish there was more information on the Malestrom cause it’s A) a cool name for a ship and B) the portrayal you and the artist came up with looks awesome
The Maelstrom and the Mandator look excellent, I want to have proper depictions of them as well as other relevant battle cruisers and battleships. It seems to be a recurring thing that novels mention such ships and then we never get any proper visuals for them.
This is a really amazing video, you guys really killed it. The art and music is beautiful and I honestly can't sing your praises loud enough. Seriously, keep it up this is a simple and straightforward video yet it is really quite brilliant and awesome. Crew numbers and some real world object comparisons would be a great addition. Thanks for the great content.
I like the Maelstrom a lot, even knowing that we haven't a lot of information about them, it has become one of my favorite battlecruisers, along side the Mediator battlecruiser
Hey Eck, great video as always dude. I would like to personally thank you for inspiring me to start creating Star Wars and Halo lore videos. It’s what’s been really getting my channel up fast and I can’t thank you enough for the inspiration, once again, thank you dude, your awesome
i love these videos and EckhartsLadder senapi's commentary makes it even better. Star ship designs are some of my favorite things about any science fiction or science fantasy setting
Best ship, but for what? It definitely is not good at gunfights - that's why Victory SD was created. Also Venator is heavily dependent on good logistic support, as it has very high fuel consumption. Amount of effort to keep ship in combat-ready status is comparable to larger ISD. I consider Venator as pretty good carrier (however I'd argue about compliment size), but as somewhat jack of all trades, is not fully optimised for specific task
Love your videos, thanks for sticking with the narration. I know the voice over is extra work for you, but it makes the video more accessible and adds that little extra.
Is the Mech able to be in a Steiner Recon Lance? If yes, you need look no further. If no, please report to the nearest training yard to be demolished by Atlases.
The Victory and Venator complimenting each other, with one being a proper combat ship and the other being more of a carrier, really reminds me of the Nebula and the Endurance from the New Republic as well.
You know what would be a super cool video? A comparison 9f ship design between the Old Republic and Imperial eras with some conjecture about what the new High Galactic stuff might look like.
Fantastic job man, literally my favorite type of videos. Soon as I get some xtra bread I’m throwing some your way, cause these videos, like you said, are very costly but very awesome as far as being able to really put into perspective size and info on ships.
Nice vid! I enjoyed it so much, i put it on a loop as i binged Wookiepedia making an expanded, Cliff Notes version based on this list! Nice exploration of the Maelstrom! While i enjoyed that, i did however find some 'Elephants' in the room. The first is a small one, RotS gave us new ships, and Wizards of the Coast gave them Game Stats informed by the Visual Dictionaries which are Canon. The Capital Ships blew me away with their incredible Atmospheric Speeds. Having some of these huge ships able to keep pace with Y-wings and in a few cases even X-wings wasn't too much of a stretch so it didn't bother me. Retconning the ISDs to be as fast as the Venator again, didn't strain my sense of believability too much so i rolled with it. Having every new Big Ship of the Clone Wars as fast as an X-wing, that does begin to strain credibility but doesn't break the game, until we get to... The Providence-class Dreadnought (Length: 2,177.35 meters, Maximum atmospheric speed 2,000 kph) and the Subjugator-class Heavy Cruiser (Length: 4,845 meters, Maximum atmospheric speed 1,050 kilometers per hour), the Big Ugly Elephants that DO BREAK THE GAME. 2008-2012 i was still running a D6 SWRPG campaign, and i made a revised Speed Chart where i figured out the curve of the 1st & 2nd edition charts so i could extend the chart accurately and not just randomly throw down numbers willy-nilly. That done, i simply plugged in the ships not covered by WEG but by other canon & Licensed EU sources. There were Two contradictory speeds given as "official" for the TIE Defender, so my way to reconcile the discrepancy was to make the slower ship a Type I and the faster one the Type II. Drafts of these charts are posted at d6holocron.com/wiki/index.php?title=Speed_Chart_Draft_2.X.4 and d6holocron.com/wiki/index.php?title=Expanded_Speed_Chart. I did not have the need to expand the chart further than i did, because there wasn't anything faster than that TIE Defender. I did find another expanded chart which looks promising but the Space and Atmosphere numbers do not match up, at holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/printthread.php?t=16907&pp=50. The First Elephant, the Providence-class Dreadnought. At more than TWICE the size and, being very conservative her, at least twice the MASS, is somehow twice as FAST?!?!? IF there was a plausible explanation of how this feat of engineering was possible, then i might have a chance of believing it. But there isn't. As far as i can find, no writer at all, made any attempt whatsoever to explain this. I think i can safely rule out Dave Filoni, as he is basically brilliant in every thing he does. So that leaves some uncredited writers in 2 media sources listed @ starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Providence-class_dreadnought. -sigh- Then we have A BIGGER ELEPHANT, the Subjugator-class Heavy Cruiser. More Than FOUR TIMES THE SIZE, ALMOST FIVE TIMES THE SIZE of the Carrier/Destroyer. And somehow by some Miracle is as fast as the smaller cruisers? Um, yeah... NO. Again, if they can't bother to try, i will not buy. So, writers dropped the ball, and Lucasfilm Licensing was, where? Not there, oh well... I find this dual lack of Competency and Due Diligence Disturbing. So i, for one, am moving the speeds of those two ships from canon to the bad fiction/bad writing bin. Again, thanks for making a fun, informative & thought-provoking video!
Just wanted to stop in and say thank you for all your content creation, I know how much time engery and money it sometimes takes to make these. And I and other appreciate your efforts here. I also wanted to say that I have been building an actual model of your 3D creation of the MaleStorm in the computer game Space Engineers, and I believe I have done it justice. I absolutely fell in love with this ship and your interpretation of how it should look like. Again thank you for your content and your efforts I look forward to watching more of your videos every night.
I do enjoy this style of video. I would like to see slower and more dramatic clips of each model like that final clip of the Consular class cruiser at 7:10 - that was awesome. Some shots of groups of ships or a fleet on a starry background (or just without the shadow) would be cool as well. Great looking models you had made; I'd love to see them showed off more.
One thing I really liked about both The Clone Wars and Rebels is the way it expanded the late Republic/Early Imperial starfleet beyond just the ISD and the vanilla TIE Fighter. We got the Arquitens, the Gorzanti freighter, frigate and SIGINT variants, the Interdictor, the Pelta and, my personal favourite, the Charger (armed Consular). Then there were the canonisation of the TIE Avenger and the TIE Defender as well as the endless array of mercantile and independent light freighters, shuttles and snubfighters. Personally, I would have liked to have seen one of the Mandator-IIs in tCW (Anakin remarking 'still not big enough' as a nod to the Executor) or in Revenge of the Sith as Palpatine's flagship.
Love that this had actual narration and some lore behind what was being discussed, but I felt the music overpowered your voice a bit. Like you would talk and it'd be really quiet then it'd go back to the music like bam up in your face like oh no.
Nice comparison. Cool designs for the ships we don't have official designs for. Fingers crossed we get to see some Victory-I's in the new Clone Wars season! :D
I always thought that the Subjugator was upscaled in "Destroy Malevolance" for the interior tram shots. In Legends the supposed size of the Malevolance is argued by news reporters in "A Galaxy Divided" and is a reference to the arguments made by fans over the size of the Executor Super Star Destroyer from the 1980s to the 1990s.
Love it. Hey, if you're looking to invent a star-ship, the CIS military could use a proper corvette. If you had the opportunity to hand craft a corvette for the separatists, what would you make? How would it look? What it do?

- Looks Heavily armed
It's funny they actually downgraded it, Mandator IV has a massive overexposed bridge and little guns.
