Looked at the SKX007 for years and never pulled the trigger then it was discontinued. This December I will graduate with my Masters and bought the SKX007J today as a gift to myself… My how things come full circle.
The SKX wasn't my first "serious" watch, it was my last. I did the research; all of the videos about how it was out of date with a old movement. How it wasn't worth the money. I had no interest in buying one. Then they stopped production. Then the prices started to increase. Then they started to make homages. Homages? To the SKX? WFT? I figured if they're selling SKX replicas, then why not just buy the real thing? When I got it and took it out of the box, I realized the mistake I'd made. The mistake I'd made 5 years ago, when I didn't buy an SKX then. If they ever bring back an updated SKX (NOT a 5KX). I'll buy another one.
I picked up a Seiko 7548 (the quartz version of the SKX007) in a thrift shop in Hilo, HI years ago. It's unique because it has a Japanese Kanji option in the day wheel instead of English abbreviations for days of the week. I have bought and sold multiple pieces since then, but this one has been a constant.
That is very cool 👌🏼 I would of liked to have the skx007j just because from what I’ve read they were built a little better than the K variants. But the aesthetic of the skx is universal
I got into this hobby some years ago when my daughter was just a little girl. My first automatic watch was a Tag Heuer Carrera and I still love it till this day. My daughter and I went to a father/daughter dinner date with her school and we had pictures taken and in the picture you can see me wearing that watch and one day it will be hers to have and pass down and share with her children her experiences during those times. Since then, I've collected the 007 and many other designs and to quote Kevin O'leary, "collecting watches is a disease..." Now that my daughter is grown, I'm slowly introducing to her the hobby. I have an heirloom of a watch that belonged to my grandfather which is a 1951 Hamilton windup which he wore everyday. A watch that was given to him from a mens club that he was apart of and it was dated with his name engraved professionally on the caseback. I have memories and pictures of him wearing it and there really is a strange connection that comes with these little time pieces when you hold and wear them. Likely my collection will be passed on to not only family, but also friends. Great review, please keep the videos coming. ✌️🙂
Thank you for sharing. Apologies for taking so long to reply. I wanted to read it in full. This is what it’s all about. These watches will live on after use and we need someone else to be custodians of these gems.
A co-worker traveled to Romania in the 1980s and I asked him to bring me back a Seiko quartz dress watch because the currency exchange was favorable. He vetoed my selection and instead brought me back a Tissot Ballade mechanical that I still have to this day. I was immediately smitten by mechanical watches and many years later bought an SKX007 as my second mechanical watch that I wore every day for many years. At some point I started collecting and now have an Oris moon pointer and chronograph, a Tissot Seastar 1000(the early 2000 version) and couple of quartz oddities. The SKX007 will always hold a nostalgic place in my collection and remains my go-to watch for camping. It's a true beater that I don't worry about abusing or dunking in the lake and the long lasting bright lume can be read all night in a sleeping bag.
Man. This one spoke to my heart. My first watch was a skx009J Pepsi bezel because naturally I couldn’t afford a Rolex Gmt. That was about 7 years ago. I just got my Rolex Gmt Pepsi a month ago and it has made me respect my Seiko all over again because of the journey. Keep up the content my guy 👍🏾
Like you said the SKX is ISO certification, 200m, screw down crown, beautiful engraved case back with The Great Wave of Kanagawa and even love the jingle jangle super comfy bracelet that’s made the skx loved by so many collectors. Bought mine so many years ago for $180 from LongIsland watch and several watches later it’s still one of my favorites in my collection.
You’re too nice Britt! Your production is something to strive towards, absolutely love your flat lays and B rolls. Thank you for watching. And definitely, we all need to slow down and appreciate what we have.
Love the SKX. I bought one in college for like $190 on sale. I've since bought other watches, but it's the one that I wear the most. It's really blown me away after they were discontinued how much they increased in value because they are that GOOD. Seiko made a mistake by discontinuing them.
Great video...I have a very similar journey and time frame with my love for mechanical watches. I've had a watch on my wrist from the days in elementary school starting with a Freestyle Shark watch (that I still have) and moved into various quartz watches until the recent love and affection towards mechanical. I was able to purchase my SKX007J model at retail before soon after it was discontinued and added the same Seiko jubilee bracelet as I wanted the stock look and feel and I'm glad I did. I have gotten alot more attention and compliments on this watch that I have ever imagined and it has been on my wrist everyday since. Thanks for sharing your journey and thank you for your service! Your To-Do list cracked me up btw...lol!!!!
Back in the 80's... I have a classmate who has a Seiko SKX007 and I'm just dreaming to have one. Well, it took 30+ years before I finally pull the trigger, because I got into the swiss automatic watches first. I will say that this is truly a classic and still looks good to this day.

Thanks Mike! I appreciate you tuning in for my content. Yes definitely the memories are key. Nothing wrong with building a collection, but we all need to slow down a bit and enjoy the ride. I’m talking to myself mostly 😆
I bought my first skx about a month ago in a new-like condition, my issue with it is the accuracy, it’s gaining about 80sec/day! I tried regulating it couple of times but didn’t seem to get it right, now im stuck at +50sec/day. I don’t know if it’s normal but it’s not a pleasant experience.
The "10" on my bezel isn't just a straight vertical line. It's got that little hash mark at the top like this " 1 " as opposed to " I ". does this mean it's fake? everything else , including numbers on back check out...
Vintage skx will definitely demand a premium. Even the more modern ones are double the retail price that I paid for my original skx in 2017. They discontinued the skx a couple of years ago and they have since gone up both.
Everyone talks smack about the “rattliest jubilee”. I have a large collection and three Rolexes…. And it’s the most comfortable bracelet period. Change my mind!!! I even tried the upgraded fancy straco oyster and jubilee for the Skx and I hated them. The jingly one is for sure jingly but absolutely the most comfortable hands down!!
And ps- even with the great collection and everything my little heart could possibly desire…. I naturally gravitate to and still enjoy the skx013. It’s my daily and favorite of my entire collection.
Oh it may be rattly but it’s very comfortable 👌🏼 I agree 100% OEM bracelet over all aftermarket options. I too had a strapco oyster in the beginning, not a fan
I watched this video from Wristwatch Revival th-cam.com/video/la2ztR5askE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MS9vhSbWtx6s_wx2 , and this guy wore a Pepsi Rolex GMT watch since the 60's, and when he died he passed it on to his Grandson. The watch was full of history scratches and age Patina. I wanted to have a watch to become part of my history, so I tried some Homage watches of that same watch, but they were copies. I ended up getting the Seiko Padi Pepsi, and I wear it with love!
Im wearing mine right now actually, its up in rotation. So many people dislike the OEM bracelet, but not me. I bought a Strapcode replacement and my SKX at the same time because of what people said, but never changed it out because the OEM is so amazingly comfortable. Just be careful when putting on heavy jackets, like motorcycle jackets, because the links can catch on the cuff. I'll never sell mine.
2024 value for MINT new in box for SKX007J1 would be what? $2000? There's no new condition J version for sale on ebay only K version and they are $800-900. I see two used J for $1600ish from Japan seller.
Don't stress about J vs K - they're exactly the same. Same watch, same factory, same build quality but unfortunately sellers are good at separating money from wallets for the J. NOS SKX007K's can still be bought for US$400
So I bought mine for $180. Would you prefer the new Seiko 5kx? Your trade substance for pretty when you chose the 5kX. The SKX is ISO certification, 200m, screw down crown, has a nice case back design. Now it’s replaced with a piece of glass on the 5kX . I’m sorry but how is this newer watch better? Oh yes the movement! So the new one hacks? Why would you ever need hacking on a highly inaccurate movement? Hate to break it to you but both the 4R series and 7S26 aren’t the most accurate movements. So hacking is a moot point. Yes but you can wind the new movement! Really, you feel that having to wind the movement 30 times is faster than shaking the watch 3 times to get the 7S26 movement with the “magic lever” going is easier ? Seriously?! Yes the new 5KX may be prettier but so much has been lost. For $180 not sure I could’ve found a watch that offered so much.
Dont see the attraction of the skx. It was discontinued but there were also millions and millions made. Not worth 1000$ by far, not rare not made in Japan either. Seiko does not make those models in Japan. They are made in Malaysia in the same factories as the K models. They are just marked differently and labeled “made in Japan seiko is cagey for not clarifying this and confusing people. Had soo many arguments about this. Only the high end seikos are made in japan. The rest are made in Malaysian factories with Japanese factory management. This is a loop hole
The Made In Japan models were made in Japan, I'm afraid you're wrong on that. Certainly my 98 Japan was - I did a ton of research prior to purchasing it.

Negroni!!! BEFORE i subscribe to your channel does vintage skx demand a higher price than a modern skx thanks
Vintage skx will definitely demand a premium. Even the more modern ones are double the retail price that I paid for my original skx in 2017. They discontinued the skx a couple of years ago and they have since gone up both.
I have a 97 unworn 007k1 don't know value please advise thanks for commenting 🙂
@@seikoskx depends on condition. If it all original, runs well, has all paperwork. I’d say anywhere from 200-600 is fair value
Thanks

What branch of the service were you in Negroni ?
AF
I retired USA ARMY 2015 thank you for your service I was also USA Air force veteran went to Lackland along time ago 😀

2024 value for MINT new in box for SKX007J1 would be what? $2000? There's no new condition J version for sale on ebay only K version and they are $800-900. I see two used J for $1600ish from Japan seller.
No idea on pricing today my friend.
Don't stress about J vs K - they're exactly the same. Same watch, same factory, same build quality but unfortunately sellers are good at separating money from wallets for the J. NOS SKX007K's can still be bought for US$400
If you buy Rolex, there are different types of. but there is only ONE SKX007 (also look at the last three numerals ;-) )
no hacking or hand winding?! mineral crystal, stamped clasp. SEIKO are the kings of mediocrity.
😂😂😂 it was like 150 bucks. Cmon
For $180 not sure I could’ve found a watch that offered so much.
heimdallr and SM do it so much better and for LESS!!!
Skx009 owner and I love that thing
go mariners
Ok 👍🏼
Rose gold olive dial day date is definitely better than any royal oak
Interesting comment to make on this video
@ my brother in Christ I think you forgot what you talked about in the first couple minutes of this video 🤣
@ makes sense 😂
Dont see the attraction of the skx. It was discontinued but there were also millions and millions made. Not worth 1000$ by far, not rare not made in Japan either. Seiko does not make those models in Japan. They are made in Malaysia in the same factories as the K models. They are just marked differently and labeled “made in Japan seiko is cagey for not clarifying this and confusing people. Had soo many arguments about this. Only the high end seikos are made in japan. The rest are made in Malaysian factories with Japanese factory management. This is a loop hole
How do you know the j models aren’t made in Japan? I think they’re worth 300-400 based on the design alone. Which is what they go for on eBay today
The Made In Japan models were made in Japan, I'm afraid you're wrong on that. Certainly my 98 Japan was - I did a ton of research prior to purchasing it.
I don’t get why guys love the day-date. They look feminine compared to the Submariner.
LOL 😂
It’s a beautiful watch, mate.
When i heard "from seikos to rolex's" listening to nas, i bought the seiko first, rolex is the next step :)
