Sarah, your videos are great! I brewed my 2nd APA yesterday... and I wish I had seen this video before... Not only the filter is better to be that side up... But also it should be in the manual.... We assembled it the convexe side down... And not perfectly straight. When we started to recirculate, the malt became heavier as soon as it isn't floating... So the filter passed throug the malt Pipe!!! We had to remove all ... Re-assemble and go-on... Thank you for your videos! Regards from Argentina!!!
Very useful, there's a few things there I've been doing wrong! Thanks very much! What's the actual function of the half-threaded nut/pipe? I haven't been using it, and the overflow just goes down the central pipe... Am I missing something?
I've not seen that on my one the bottom nut holds the plate in place very firmly. Is the hole on your bottom plate too big or does the bottom threaded piece not screw into the pipe properly?
Strange, I've never seen that issue as my bottom plate is always sandwiched tightly between the bottom nut and the malt pipe. In fact it can be difficult to undo it sometimes.
@@DaftCatBrewing THANKS- ITS SO FUNNY BUT AFTER I SENT MY MESSAGE I HAD A EUREKA MOMENT AND THOUGHT EXACTLY THAT. Thanks again. By the way I did try your method of lowering the power wattage but this resulted in the kettle turning itself off. I have the Guten Nano Brewery System and wonder if reducing the wattage makes the power unit overwork and then the failsafe kicks in. I now leave on 2500w all the way through and no probs. Back to my Cherry IPA. Bye
The first and only video I've seen, where the bottom plate is mounted the right way. Even the official manual is wrong. Well done!

Thanks very much, I'm glad you find them useful. Hope your next brew is less problematic.
Some good advice on the pipes
and the overflow. Cheers
Great advice as usual thanks sarah, im doing my first allgrain brew this Saturday and would've put the bottom plate the other way up.
I did myself the first brew and quickly regretted it, turned it around the next brew and it was much better. Been doing it that way ever since
Im not sure what side I have used to put down when I'm brewing, but from now on I will make sure I'll do it this way 🙂👍 Thanks! 🍻
Thanks, the manual for these is rubbish, you have sorted it for me.
Nice vid! Cheers

It isn't necessary but it raises the level before it overflows. If you want it to overflow 1/2 inch lower then you can leave it off
@@DaftCatBrewing Ah, brilliant... That's pretty much what I've been using it for!
Have you had any issues with the pipe coming loose on the bottom end. It keeps happeing to my set, not sure how to solve.

@@DaftCatBrewing it screwes on perfectly and sits on there tightly. But comes loose during stirring.

you have got the wrong screen as the one with the two legs goes at the bottom, not top
They are handles to place and remove the screen not feet.
