Kudos to the rider and her mates who managed to contain a young horse's energy while on duty! I have every faith that the comfort of the horse is paramount and that the rider knows perfectly well how to use (and not abuse) the bit. Did you notice she has very soft hands and barely resists the horse at all? These are ceremonial horses: it's their job. They have to be trained to the work and exposed to many situations over the long term in order to make them 'bomb proof'. While the *idea* of a bitless bridle might be attractive to some, the reality is that the horse is working at close quarters with the public and the rider needs to have complete and absolute control of it. Before you say 'it's time they didn't use horses for this work' - just ask yourself what would happen to all the military horses who would lose their jobs. While we all know that horses *evolved* to 'run wild and free', the fact is they can't any more. If you want horses to remain relevant in this modern world, they need to have jobs. For myself, I'd much rather see a lovely thoroughbred carefully and sensitively trained to ceremonial work rather than being ridden at speed on a racetrack for most of its young life and then being tossed aside like rubbish. And then there's rodeos and the bull-ring...

A curb bit is a leverage bit, meaning that it multiplies the pressure applied by the rider. If a bit is causing pain or discomfort, communication breaks down and your horse’s performance, as well as his mouth, suffers. The biggest problem causing bit pain doesn’t necessarily have to do with the type of bit used or the specific horse. The problem, whether through lack of experience, frustration, or deliberate abuse, is often in the rider’s hands.
I like how the handler grabs the halter instead of the reins (as some tourists are want to do). Keep in mind the horse is wearing a double bridle. Hence why it can be painful to just grab at the reins, especially near the mouth. Rider is doing a superb job. Interesting colors on the guard. Foreign assignment?

Well it certainly does not prevent the horses from tossing their heads now does it. These artificial gadgets are unnecessary if the horse is properly trained and the rider is sufficiently skilled. If a horse tosses their head back and bops the rider in the face, it could cause a broken nose, a dislocated jaw, and even knock the rider's ass out cold. All easily avoidable with proper training, which the British army seems quite incapable of.

Have hoped the soldiers would know to stroke horse in the direction the hair grows. Not fidget its coat and tickle it with scratching movements. Its very noisy for them !
The horse is keeping it's head high. That is the body language of a horse that has not yet accepted what people want it to do. It keeps tossing it's head up. The horse is not ready for what is being expected of it. Grabbing the bridal as was done can at times cause a very violent reaction from the horse. The horse is very stresses. As well as not accepting what it is being asked to do. Which is against the natural nature of a horse. The horse needs more training before putting it in that situation
@Hazel B you're correct about most of that, but the 'King's Troop' is a troop, not a regiment (in full 'King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery') and the part of the Household Cavalry (H Cav) that does public duties is the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR).
Perhaps the horse is trying to get feeling back in his face. Sometimes nose bands cut off circulation to the face creating numbness. The horse then rubs its face to regain feeling. The head tossing may be a shake awake.
What is the meaning (for lack of a better word) with the different uniforms, other then the warm ones for the cold. I’ve never seen these. I really like them.
Standards have dropped somewhat since I completed my 22. Those two 'creatures' in the MTP camo need to get their hair up into a tight bun, the only ponytails on parade should be on the horses.
That's one bad tempered horse🤣 The poor girl.on the ground is trying her best while the one on the horse is trying absolutely nothing to calm the horse
Horses are not meant to be forced to stand on concrete all day long. Horses naturally graze 16 to 18 hours a day and they like to be together they are herd animals. They also don't like confined spaces. Making them stand there with too much metal in their mouth also is aggravating for that horse. Horses have different shaped mouths inside some horses have low pallets some have high pallets. This is old-fashioned treatment of horses where you just stuff the bits that you've been using for hundreds of years into their mouths without considering whether the bit is comfortable in the first place. The other thing is horses stomachs produce acid on a continual basis. This is because they're meant to be a grazing animal and they are meant to eat all day long. People produce acid when we eat not all day long. So you have a horse that's standing there unable to graze or eat and his stomach is continuously pumping acid. This horse guard stuff is stupid it doesn't take into account how the horse is feeling physically it doesn't take into account the animal not wanting to be in that confined space so it's ignoring his mental well-being. The whole thing is not in the horses favor or best interests. You're expecting that animal to stand there for I don't know how many hours the heavy weight on his back in a confined space that they don't like with nothing to eat. You're separating him from the other horses and they don't like that either they instinctively want to be together. I'm surprised that some of these guards haven't been launched off of these horses backs. These horses are long suffering and putting up with way too much and after a while they figure out if I act up enough I'll get taken back inside. Back inside isn't a whole lot better but at least they get the rider off their back and they don't have to stand there. Why is back inside not a whole lot better I've seen some of the Queens stables the horses are in what are known as tie stalls so they're forced to stare at a wall all day. Because they are tied in a row and they're facing a wall. Once again they can't raise they get fed a certain amount of hay per day and they're stuck standing there. This is why horses get stomach ulcers can you imagine being forced to stand there for I don't know how many hours with your stomach burning. With various temperatures having a weight on your back and having a bit that may not fit your mouth stuffed in your mouth. Stand there all day what you're seeing is a horse saying I'm not doing this today and I know how to get out of it and I don't blame them and good for the horse.
It's an hour before they are taken back in what about when there is a Royal ceremony they stand there longer then they are trained to do this job and they stand linger in a field the guard and horse are together for most of their working lives so read up about what goes on and how the horses are treated before you spout off such rubbish
What nonsense - the horse has been trained and does need to learn to cope. He has a very empathetic rider with extremely kind hands so is not being yanked in the mouth or abused in any way.
@@leazatobias2878 You need to watch other video to see this kind of incidents happening to the horses many times and read what other viewers' comments to learn what happened. The abuse is when they don't even set up the horses' gears correctly and it pains the horses in that situation. Thus, they need to pay more attention to avoid this from happening again and again.

Everyone's an expert.
Fly proofing the guard stall/post would help, big one buzzing/biting the horse. No time to clean Iooks like.
Horses have bad days too.
Watch his ears, can you imagine trying to process that many sounds at once….

The use of hackemores is recommended in this situation, the the comfort of the horse is paramount importance.
They are too inept to use Hackamores they would end up breaking the horses nose .
@@debbiehollis5711 I have been using a hackemore since 1969,and to date have never broken a horses nose or seen a horses nose broken by a hackmore. It is impossible. The point of the hackemore is to get a horse to respond leg and voice inputs.
@@phillipmaasdorp9491 yeah but you probably know how to ride and they don't. I've watched a lot of footage the riders all seem to be novices .I hunt my shire cross thorough bred in a snaffle .He's 18.2.take him out every day and hunt every couple of months .He has a good life these horses don't. The horses are miserable and so are the riders.Shut up in those sentry boxes standing still for an hour with double bridles and martingales. Why they're hardly going anywhere .I wouldn't let them anywhere near my horse .
@@phillipmaasdorp9491 And spurs .why? All to look the part its got bugger all to do with the horses comfort .When I brought my horse over from Ireland I turned him away for three weeks and then loads of lunging and round pen ground work .I got rid of the pellham and running martingale and I've never ridden in spurs .I'm only 5ft 3 inches so he's too big for me .I was going to sell him on and get something around 15 hands .But I love him too much to part with him .He is such a character wish you could meet him .Can't mount from the ground only disadvantage other than this just perfect .
@@debbiehollis5711 The soldier has only one hand to handle the horse. Spurs sparingly used can be helpful in getting the horses attention
There is a piece of chain or leather strap that connects from the bridal to the breast chain that keeps the horse from tossing it’s head like that.
Hmm, don't see any martingale that connects to the bridle. Or a breast collar.
Nothing is restricting this horse"s upward movement of it's head.
It's not used to the crowds. Can't fault the poor horse or Kings Artillery Mounted troop
God luv em
First day of a new job is hard.
Blessssssss I would go over and calm the horse.
I’d be playing up too if I had a steel bit in my mouth and having to stand still in that heat and all that noise. Cruel cruel cruel, all in the name of antiquated tradition. Please stop this cruelty.
Have hoped the soldiers would know to stroke horse in the direction the hair grows. Not fidget its coat and tickle it with scratching movements. Its very noisy for them !
Its alot for the horse to deal with ,guard and soldier did very well
Clearly posted by a person who has never seen a horse negativly reacted, 🤦♀️🤣 they did the best for this young hose x
yes nothing worse than an immature hose.
Yes I do agree with you❤️
The horse is keeping it's head high.
It is its first day as stated in the video title. Its not used to it, so is showing its confusion.
Obviously a new Horse and they knew he/she might play up, that's why the trainer was there.
I think the bit is hurting his mouth. He look like he’s experiencing pain of some kind.
The poor horse knows its an emotional time and probably needed that extra reassurance of that it's ok.. 🥀💔🌈
Yes, the Queens horse was saddened of her passing.
This was filmed two months ago, before the Queen passed away.
They all need to watch some Steve Young videos and ser how proper training and bridling results in calm, relaxed horses.
It’s obviously not ready
Perhaps the horse is trying to get feeling back in his face.
Sometimes nose bands cut off circulation to the face creating numbness. The horse then rubs its face to regain feeling.
The head tossing may be a shake awake.
That horse is not having any of this, it wants to go back to the stables.
Well he can't go back he's on duty and that's what he does. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
The soldier jumped in too early. No-one gave the horse a moment to settle at the start
Like me on a monday morning!
Love Animals and Help Animals please 🙏
that armed copper is hot xx muscles in all the right places .
THE GIRL NEEDS TO LEAVE HIM ALONE!
That's one bad tempered horse🤣 The poor girl.on the ground is trying her best while the one on the horse is trying absolutely nothing to calm the horse
I have seen footage of this horse playing up before. I recognise the white marking on the rear leg.
Looks like the bit is bothering him.
I think the horse just wanted the soldier to leave him along!
The next day, that horse was pulling a plow at Buckingham Farms.
What uniform are they wearing ?? I think i have only seen it once before on state occasion
Roxanne, excellent comment ! i agree with everything you said.
Watch " why the Queen was an animal abuser "
Agree or disagree ?
Would be interesting if you would do some research on horses.
@@MsShoosh1 do you think everything is done in the best interest of the horses ?
It's for an hour before the guards change read the other comments plus they stand all day in a field
It's an hour before they are taken back in what about when there is a Royal ceremony they stand there longer then they are trained to do this job and they stand linger in a field the guard and horse are together for most of their working lives so read up about what goes on and how the horses are treated before you spout off such rubbish
"Where is everybody?" Comes to mind!
I don't want to work today. Said the horse.
It's a royal guard horse not the queen's personal horse either.
All the horses used to belong to the Queen now King Charles has inherited them .
There was something irritating that horse. They should check underneath him & under the girth & saddle! He couldn't make it any clearer!!!
An already stressed horse shouldn’t have all those tourists passing by.
This looked like happening too often. The guard boss needs to rectify these situations. This is abusive to the horses.
Lol. I just noticed the sign. Horses bite people? Shows how much I know about them.
👍👍🐴🐴👍👍❤❤👍👍
I feel so bad for that horse, it's miserable🙁☹️
I just felt sorry for the poor thing. I hope that it wasn't punished?
I couldn't agree more .And I'm waiting for some pompous ass to disagree with me .But they don't seem to be doing so at present .
@@alisongodden4500 they put it in jail and gave it shit jobs to do for a week, like they do with regular soldiers.

@@debbiehollis5711 I disagree. Horses in the Army are some of the best kept in the World..
That horse seems to have a problem with the saddle band. They should have checked the saddle. It's quite possible a wisp of straw or something was under there.
The flys are bothering the poor thing. Doesn't help there is dung in the gateway attracting them
