Cyril Northcote Parkinson, writing in the 1950s said "Work expands to fill the time allocated to it". I've found this out many times... very similar experience to yours, D4D. I've spent 7 years on my own animated film (a THANKLESS effort that was), and have recently abandoned a 7 year long project, and frankly felt nothing but relief.

Ten years ago I completed my first feature film. In so many ways it broke me, and I am still recovering from its fallout. I haven’t gone back to the well of feature-filmmaking mainly because of my personal circumstances, but also because I don’t know if I have the reserves to contemplate such an undertaking ever again. So your talking about your relationship to filmmaking & life truly resonated with me. I hope we both find a sustainable way forward that nurtures us - whatever that might be. Take care x
I was just thinking about you the other day. Glad to see you are still alive! There are a lot of interviews with A-tier directors where they talk about how movies for them are 6-8 months usually of long days, 4ish hours of sleep a night, and the stress and misery and work and pain and.... I think, if a director doesn't feel, at least a modicum of what you've been feeling, the project won't have the same impact. Your videos, your films, have an impact because you put yourself into them quite heavily. Heart and soul make Art. Add hard work and stress and sleepless nights and chest pains.... you get Art that lives forever. You're awesome! And as best as we can, we are all giving you big sweaty electronic hugs and cheering you on the best we can.

For what it's worth, you and your work have inspired me more than any other on YT. I'll never be a film maker (too old now) but I've fallen in love with the process enough to know I wish I'd found it when I was young. Life may have been very different. In advance, I'd dare to say that UNSOUND documentary deserves an award - yes, that's even without watching it yet because there's just excellence in the way you tell your stories and I know it will be ace! D4Darious, you're an inspirational filmmaker and I am happy you're taking a healthy perspective to your passion in film making. I totally agree with seeking balance amidst all the 'madness', and I echo this from an experiential viewpoint. People can only work when their health is intact. When health depletes, all the 'passion projects' goes along with it. That, to me, is the greatest misery! Stay healthy my friend!
I 100% relate to what Darious talked about. Don't get me wrong, I haven't tackled these kinds of film beasts as he has, but man, seriously, the burn out recently IS real. And it really sucks to, for whatever reasons, have something you love and care about so much deform into something that stops bringing you joy and at times, even if you recognize it as turning out okay or really good, makes you got at the end, "Meh, alright". wow... this honestly spoke to me. ive been working on my own film projects (mostly one man band) since 2018... havent stopped, havent been able to enjoy things i used to. Example being I cant enjoy playing a video game because my mind is in work mode. There’s always something to do, always something I have to prep etc. I should have realized this when I tackled my first feature back in 2019... heh... i’m almost done with my second feature film and yeah i have a production assistant and extra hands, but i still ran myself into the ground... 2 full weeks of jusr 20 hour days back to back to back... ended up in the hospital to finally realize what ive been doing to my body. physically and mentally... tbh i almost died on my first feature and now on this one because im wearing too many hats, dont have much money so dont have much time etc. I hope you’re doing well Darious, take as much time as you need. Your health and wellbeing is definitely more important than uploading content for us. ❤️
We missed you fam. I know it’s not much, but if it’s any consolation at all; you inspired me to become a filmmaker and it completely changed my life. I can support my family doing something I love and it pulled me out of a dark place man. Took a lot of work on my part; but I don’t know for certain that I would’ve taken the steps to do so without you. So… thanks bro.
Been watching for years and the effort you’ve put into your projects always shows love and attention to detail. I actually understand that process of wanting things just right for my films and it does tax my mental state. You are definitely right when you say you have to take care of yourself. One time I got so burned out I got brain fog for a week. I’m excited to see this trilogy come to a close. I’ll be sure to watch.

I missed seeing you around here! Glad to have you back! And I get living with a project for so long that you just want it to end. I had a film project I started in 2006 that ended up stretching on for years and years due to every setback and obstacle in the book. There were times I woke up on certain days and just considered giving up because I was so sick and tired of it. I eventually finished it because I made a vow that I would before production ever began on it. So, trust me, I know about getting in over your head, and trying to avoid doing it again (only for you to end up right back in the shit later on). It takes far too much for filmmakers to learn the right lessons, sometimes.
I learned a lot from your Journey and I pump the brakes when I hear more wisdom from you and I truly believe and know you are gifted and I also see that I’m not as good of a filmmaker like you and see it’s hectic. D4darius is one of the best TH-cam channel for me and if I can help you I would but I’m in prison with a film project of my own. Don’t give up but go back to short films that are simple. wow... this honestly spoke to me. ive been working on my own film projects (mostly one man band) since 2018... havent stopped, havent been able to enjoy things i used to. Example being I cant enjoy playing a video game because my mind is in work mode. There’s always something to do, always something I have to prep etc. I should have realized this when I tackled my first feature back in 2019... heh... i’m almost done with my second feature film and yeah i have a production assistant and extra hands, but i still ran myself into the ground... 2 full weeks of jusr 20 hour days back to back to back... ended up in the hospital to finally realize what ive been doing to my body. physically and mentally... tbh i almost died on my first feature and now on this one because im wearing too many hats, dont have much money so dont have much time etc. I hope you’re doing well Darious, take as much time as you need. Your health and wellbeing is definitely more important than uploading content for us. ❤️

We missed you fam. I know it’s not much, but if it’s any consolation at all; you inspired me to become a filmmaker and it completely changed my life. I can support my family doing something I love and it pulled me out of a dark place man. Took a lot of work on my part; but I don’t know for certain that I would’ve taken the steps to do so without you. So… thanks bro.
Also, no matter how big or time consuming or painful these projects were, you managed to finish them all. That's some grit man!
Been watching for years and the effort you’ve put into your projects always shows love and attention to detail. I actually understand that process of wanting things just right for my films and it does tax my mental state. You are definitely right when you say you have to take care of yourself. One time I got so burned out I got brain fog for a week. I’m excited to see this trilogy come to a close. I’ll be sure to watch.

I wonder if also the fact you're working with footage from a time when you were very stressed and overworked is also bringing back the same emotions you felt at the time, adding yet another layer to the burnout? Any job where you can look back and say: "I made this." is worth pushing it almost to the breaking point. I highly respect and admire people willing to go all their lives through the grind of an 8 hr. plus office or factory job. We depend on it, so - as you say - any creative endeavour is a privilege. Wishing you ALL the success you definitely deserve! P.S. frequently render out and make backups on separate drives!!!!

And I get living with a project for so long that you just want it to end. I had a film project I started in 2006 that ended up stretching on for years and years due to every setback and obstacle in the book. There were times I woke up on certain days and just considered giving up because I was so sick and tired of it. I eventually finished it because I made a vow that I would before production ever began on it. So, trust me, I know about getting in over your head, and trying to avoid doing it again (only for you to end up right back in the shit later on). It takes far too much for filmmakers to learn the right lessons, sometimes.
I learned a lot from your Journey and I pump the brakes when I hear more wisdom from you and I truly believe and know you are gifted and I also see that I’m not as good of a filmmaker like you and see it’s hectic. D4darius is one of the best TH-cam channel for me and if I can help you I would but I’m in prison with a film project of my own. Don’t give up but go back to short films that are simple. Your day is already here. Hollywood needs you and we all love you❤️❤️❤️ you rock💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿unsound was a phenomenal piece and should go to the big screen so we can understand about Mental health. Rewatching this now, I relate to this now more than ever. I've been working on an animated documentary for the past two years, I think I'm getting closer but there's always more ideas to add to it that it gets bigger I can't get myself to take month long breaks anymore. But I remind myself, I'm not the only one struggling.
