Very nice video. Sorry to point that the Rhine river is not the border in Basel. Basel Bad is still Basel, in Switzerland. The border is a few meters before the station of Weil am Rhein. The station Basel Bad itself is managed by the DB, but it's still on swiss territory.
You are correct. However, there is a D/CH border within Basel Badischer Bahnhof. Taking the SBB train from Basel Hbf to Base Bad, you will even see sometimes some customs personal. Within Basel Bad itself, the boundary is clearly marked but usually not manned. Schengen makes crossing border easily -- a few years ago, however, some Swiss issued visas were not Schengen visa and I have watched some scenes where people were caught illegally crossing, be it in Basel or in the Neuchâtel -- Paris TGV.
@@alphanet72 The Basel Badischer Bahnhof is build on Swiss territory and only leased by the Deutsche Bahn. Customs are still located at this station but no marks anymore. The marks they had on the ground did not mark the boundary between German and Swiss part of the Station. They only marked the control and waiting points for border and custom control.
Nice video! I happened to be in the panorama coach on this trip as well, I was the guy in the blue shirt diagonally opposite you on the right hand side of the train after Basel :). I was on the train from Zürich all the way to Osnabrück to go home in the Netherlands, ending a trip that took me all the way to Sicily. I found the seats and the ride to be very comfortable, even on an 8 hour long ride like I did. The train was a bit late as we were stuck somewhere between Mannheim and Mainz as you showed, but my connecting train to the Netherlands was late as well in classic German fashion, so that was not an issue. I"m very glad I took this Eurocity instead of the fastest route from Milan to the Netherlands! It is actually possible to reserve a seat in the panorama coach, however that is only the case if you reserve a seat online at DB itself. There you can select a seat using a seat map. The panorama coach is coach number 263. I did it this way, also so I could get a reservation on the IC from Osnabrück to the Netherlands on the same itinerary. Your comment is true for other operators/booking services than DB, they do allocate you a random 1st class seat which might not be in the panorama coach.
I arrived in Basel after a journey from Calais in 1948, bound for Lugano. The contrast after war ravaged France was startling, Switzerland was a pleasant shock, clean electric trains, as much food as you wanted, no rationing…..and Lugano- just perfect. If you have watched the Burt Lancaster film The Train, a lot of the stations in France were those we passed through.

It's amazing to see you ride this train and route! I bought this train as a set for my model railway including the panorama coach and really want to ride it in person. Unfortunately, riding a train as a wheelchair user is not that simple. During your tour through the train I only spotted seats for disabled persons/ a spot for wheelchairs in the second class. Maybe one day I will get the chance to ride this train to Hamburg with my girlfried to see the Miniatur Wunderland and meet with some friends there. Thank you for the video! :)
I travelled on a few Eurocity trains, including some that no longer exist such as the Venice-Budapest one. As far, my best experiences on these trains were on the Basel-Milan via the Gotthard basis tunnel, and the Munich-Bologna one. Lovely sceneries. Definitely need to travel once on the rhine valley
👏 Nice travel report ! About the Rhine river: Towards Germany it's a border water - roughly between the two Schaffhausen(Schaffhausen-Switzerland and Schaffhouse-près-Seltz) ... more precisely between Constance and Lauterbourg. Thanks to the Rhine the ancient Council town of Constance was spared in WWII - in contrast to Schaffhausen ... Also Kleinbasel was not spared by the Allied Forces. Kleinbasel hosts some of the tallest manmade structures of Switzerland - St-Chrischona(tallest tower) and Bau2(tallest building). Many places left of the Rhine waters have a strong roman/catholic tradition(Cologne, Mainz, Koblenz for example). The Panorama coach is - as mentioned in numerous comments - also available on the Transalpin train. Not less scenic is the classic Gotthard route - though just available during the summer season.
It's not so long ago that I took the EC Transalpin (Graz to Zürich) also in a panorama car. In this train the restaurant is operated by DoN (Austria) so a bit more affordable. And it's also a spectacular line, with the valleys of Enns and Salzach, the line along the lake of Zell am See, passing several skiing areas close by and then going up the Inn before going up the Arlberg and down on the other side, after a short unspectacular section through Liechtenstein rolling along two wonderful Swiss lakes (Walensee, Zürichsee) before reaching Zürich. I can definitely recommend this one as well. By the way on the site of the Austrian railways (ÖBB ticketing) you can reserve a seat specifically in the panorama car. Where did you book this one?
The car reminds me of Amtraks sightseer lounge. I didn’t realize Europe had anything like that. On Amtrak though, you can sit there for free, open to everyone on the train. Unlike this, where you have to buy a ticket for it.
16:32 - there's an IC(E) train every hour on the left side of the Rhine (Frankfurt/Mannheim-Mainz-Köln) plus regional trains at least every hour. On the right side there's a regional train every hour Frankfurt - Wiesbaden - Koblenz. The coaches are at Koblenz railway museum.
Wow very beautiful. I like to take one of those trains to enjoy all of this beautiful nature in Germany. For me, that I never taken one of those trains. Must be a unique experience. 👌👌🤩🤩
It is most interesting, Thibault, that your "Panamanora Wagon" that you rode on appears to be quite similar to Amtrak's sightseer lounge cars - great that the railroads provide these opportunities for sightseeing.
Beautiful train. I have to admit that I don't have such a happy memory of it though. I took this train last June from Basel to Cologne. It was a boiling hot day and the air-conditioning in the Panorama car didn't work. Almost everyone (including me) sought shelter in the adjacent cars. On top of that, engineering works on the route meant that we were diverted off the most scenic part of the line in the Rhine valley as well as travelling very slowly at times. We arrived in Cologne about 2 hours late. So much for German punctuality. Glad you enjoyed it though.
Did I get this right ? The air condition in the Swiss car was broken and there were planned construction works at a German section of the railway tracks. And you blane Deutsche Bahn for it ?
@@keahnig164 Herr, schmeiß Hirn vom Himmel ! Natürlich braucht der Zug länger, wenn er eine Umleitung fährt. Die Bahn baut schon genug Mist. Aber da kann sie zur Ausnahme echt mal nix für.

this is one of the best trains i ve ever used in germany! but unfortuately the panoramic coach was always sold out! so i had to use the first class coach. but it was also comfortable as their panoramic coach! and the restaurant is much more better than the german provider db ag. especially the wines are very delightful! i feel always well in this lovely train. it was always a pleassure for me to use this fantastic train.
These wagons you asked for can be parts of the TEE trains. When the IC’s came up, these wagons were the first class. They all have these windows “steamed” with gold for sun protecting ( and broadcast protecting too😉)

At 20:59 (at Cologne Hbf) there is a connection announced to Wuppertal, my hometown. Have you been there? Might be worth a video, riding the famous 'Schwebebahn' or suspention railway. It is in operation since 1902. It is quite a special kind of railway, the train is hanging below the rails at a hight of some meters over the Wupper river.... Regards from Germany.

It´s a pity your video does not show the two key highlights of the line along the Rhine river. Those two are the Pfalzgrafenstein Castle near Kaub, situated on island in the river, and the so-called Mouse Tower near Bingen. Another highlight is perhaps the remnants of the infamous Remagen Bridege.

This is what I call swiss quality.
All train system shoud look like the swiss.
The windows are awesome. Great video as always.
Some great footage - well done! I have whiplash there is so much to see :)
Splendide ! Merci pour cette belle video. Cela fait rêver tous les amateurs de trains!
It looks like such a smooth train ride...certainly not what I'm used to on Amtrak!
The car reminds me of Amtraks sightseer lounge. I didn’t realize Europe had anything like that. On Amtrak though, you can sit there for free, open to everyone on the train. Unlike this, where you have to buy a ticket for it.
The Rheingold express line through the Rhein valley besides the Lorelei Rock is a beautiful landscape.
08:50 No, you are still in Switzerland. The River Rhine is not the border. Even the next station (Basel Badischer Bahnhof) is located on swiss ground.

Nice video! The ride along the Rhine river is breathtaking!! 😃
16:32 - there's an IC(E) train every hour on the left side of the Rhine (Frankfurt/Mannheim-Mainz-Köln) plus regional trains at least every hour. On the right side there's a regional train every hour Frankfurt - Wiesbaden - Koblenz.
The coaches are at Koblenz railway museum.
ya i have taken that ICE 1 from Frankfurt to Koln online the Rhine was quite pleased by the views
Such panorama cars should be even standard! It would help to draw more people from motorways to railways.
i did it in coach in summer of 1990 , lot's of waterfalls , cheers

@@zeisselgaertner3212 He didn't blame the DB for the airconditioning, but for the delay.
You mentioned in the video the coaches you saw just outside of Koblenz. The location you saw them is Koblenz Luetzel which is where the DB museum is located. The coaches in TEE livery are part of the collection their.
Great video! I love railways in Europe, they're amazing
Excellent videography, Nice Narration, Good Story telling, Highlighting key places, giving useful information. Liked it. You got a new subscriber. Keep up the good work and Happy Vlogging. Thx.
5 Minutes in and I already want to buy a ticket. Great video- u outdid urself this time. Now u r in trouble bcuz u have to top this in the future!
18:09 the coaches belong to the DB museum in Koblenz. Well worth a visit if you are there for the next time! Lots of old locomotives (especially electric ones) and some coaches too.
Großartige Reportage! Gratulation!
I would love to go to Hamburg and live rest of life there...such beautiful and peaceful place
this is one of the best trains i ve ever used in germany! but unfortuately the panoramic coach was always sold out! so i had to use the first class coach. but it was also comfortable as their
panoramic coach! and the restaurant is much more better than the german provider db ag. especially the wines are very delightful! i feel always well in this lovely train. it was always a pleassure for me to use this fantastic train.

Nice route and good views from the panorama coach
Another classy video, keep em coming 🤩🤩🤩
Ah, I love this coach!
Swiss perfection
5:10 reminds me of the sightseer lounge on amtrak superliners with those panoramic windows
These wagons you asked for can be parts of the TEE trains. When the IC’s came up, these wagons were the first class. They all have these windows “steamed” with gold for sun protecting ( and broadcast protecting too😉)
The left rhine route is still crazily busy, just mostly with regional trains and cargo. But it's very much overloaded with trains.
That's super line across the my city. Well done friend. Need to colonge - Milan long way..
shoe lady looks to have her feet on her suitcase? fair game imo lol
Wunderbar trip! Dankishõn! Segen!
Great video !!
Nice video!!! I could take this train for travelling back home from Zwitserland to Amsterdam, after cycling the Eurovelo 15/Rhine cycle route. Largely the same route for train and bike. Or the Euronight, taking a sleeping compartment. What a choice to make🤔
belle video un beau train suisse merci sipli railway pour ce voyage et contenu
At 20:59 (at Cologne Hbf) there is a connection announced to Wuppertal, my hometown. Have you been there? Might be worth a video, riding the famous 'Schwebebahn' or suspention railway. It is in operation since 1902.
It is quite a special kind of railway, the train is hanging below the rails at a hight of some meters over the Wupper river....
Regards from Germany.
Bravo! Wonderful video!
Quite beautiful 😍 ❤
great train ride!
EC 172/173 "Hungaria" Budapest - Prague - Berlin - Hamburg is also a very looooong haul !
You should try the route Graz - Zürich with the „Transalpin“, this car also drives there and the view is outstanding!
Thank you for this! I actually have to travel from Basel to Mannheim in October. The timing of this train seems perfect, so I'll be looking in to taking this one.
Liam, I really reecommend it. An ICE usually services that. It will be a bit faster but the Rhine valley is gorgeous - take the panorama car!
@@TheEpicAppleEater01 I'm going to have a 1st class Eurail pass so I'll definitely be looking out for it. I looked at the schedule and it's (currently) well-timed for when I'll need it - my plan is to be at Miramar Weinheim for 6pm on October 31 - Tuesday nights are the best there ;) though not for everyone.
Hopefully they don't change the schedule much between now and October. This seems a lot better than the terrible ICE4, which I had the displeasure of taking for a 5-hour trip just before COVID.
When I went with the EC 8 to Düsseldorf last year in April, the train was going through the East Rhine Railway, instead of the west side. I do, however, miss the journey and I would really like to take it again.
18.07 The coaches are probably from the DB-Museum Koblenz. It´s a remote site of the main Museum in Nürnberg.
A very nice trip !!
23:41 rail fans who like running sounds will be gushing over this... interesting sound profile as the loco slows down from a relatively high speed.
Amazing as always
THANKS FOR SHARING💘🚅🚝🏞 BEAUTIFUL💘SCENERIES🥂
@ 18:27 you meet the Rhine once again … and several passengers staring down at their phone screens. Perhaps the scenery on their phone is more enticing than what’s out the window. 🤔🙄🤷♂️
riding the train allows for person to person interaction and communication, meeting other cultures and points of view
7:11 The most godliest sound in DB my favorite unit and it’s a special green livery.
