As a teenager and young man, I was a deckhand on some of those headboats back in the 1960s and 70's. Back then we called Grunts "Grey Snappers." That seemed to impress the tourists more than "Grunts." Although it was hard work, I was young, adventurous, and met a lot of Yankee girls who put out more than the locals.

The big ones are in 100'+ of water. If you are in 35- 65' depth you will get mostly Grunts, endless sand perch, occasionally a Lane snapper will pop up and many porgies. The trip to get the big ones takes extra travel time. You will spend 3.5 hours of a 4 hr trip just getting there.

Youre forgetting that it depends where you're going out of

Wow, that brings back memories. My grandfather had a twin brother in Clearwater. We came down from the Carolinas every summer to visit. My dad took me out on the old Super Queen in the late 60's early 70's many times. There was a really fast catamaran party boat at the marina we went out on once, but I can't remember the name. Dad passed two years ago, but I have great memories of fishing with him those summers. I still have photos mom took holding up fish from the top deck as the boat docked. Thanks for posting.

If you’re not driving for an hour or more, I’d recommend taking Dramamine. I don’t get sea sick but I’ll take it and feel sleepy than vomit all day, Great video.

Take Dramamine (or Bonine) the NIGHT BEFORE as well as the morning of your trip. Also, popping ginger candy in your mouth is a pretty good bonus pick. (I get sick watching Titanic). Taking Dramamine as your boat leaves the dock is pretty much useless.

I've been on the Super Queen half day once back in '99 it was fun even though I didn't catch anything. I've also did Dolphin Deep Sea Fishing a few times over the years and Hubbards too which I caught a few grunts. Looking back and realize it isn't about catching fish it's about the overall experience and spending time with family.

I own my own 20 foot boat, and I cannot fish any cheaper than these boats do. My only recomendaitions would be to upgrade your bait........it would be nice to have some live green sides and some live porgies, as well as some live shrimp. Most heas boats only provide cut squid and mayb some cut porgies. Some cut bloody bonita strips would take it up another level.

    Question:
    1. Can I bring my own baits on board?
    2. Can I bring back my catches home?

Own bait, most likely. Take your catches home? Yes as long as they're legal. They will let you know.

Most of the time it’s a boat ride and a show

They take you out “deep sea fishing” and you catch fish you can catch right under any single dock in the inter-coastal around John’s pass.

It is a little pricey, but being on the boat is fun. It's a great thing for tourists to do who just wanna say "they went deep sea fishing in Florida!"

@@SunshineStateInsider I've NEVER been on a charter fishing boat where it was worth the cost versus the fish I caught (I live in Southern California). But it's all about the fun! And as nice as it is sitting on a dock, it's a lot more fun being 10 or 20 miles out with a bunch of strangers, eating "passable" burgers or burritos that somehow taste incredible, and the "WHOOP WHOOP" as someone shouts "COLOR' or "FRESH ONE"! Feel free to fish the dock at John's Pass, I'll take the company of a bunch of loud mouthed tourists ANY DAY!😁😁

I would hate to pay $80 to catch a stringer of grunts

    • @maxsdad538
      @maxsdad538 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I've spent thousands (not counting the cost of my motorhome) to catch native brown trout, ALL smaller than 8 inches, at a myriad of lakes and streams along the length of California. It's not about the value of the fish, it's about the value of your experience.

It sucks sometimes just to catch grunts, but they are delicious. And if wanna do that trip of trip I suggest the 8 or 12 hours trip. Like they say, you get what you pay for

Ah heck it's a good day mostly ! They are tasty though ! If you want good fishing go on the overnight boats that go out 120 miles or more ! Thet aren't cheap ? But it's better fishing !
