The fact that you trade with him at Misanthropes really tells you a lot about his character right off the bat, and possibly explains why he doesn't want to get off the boat and talk to you face to face. (A misanthrope is someone who dislikes humankind and avoids human society)
Coastal Highway has been getting shadow buffed for a while with these DLC updates, between better beachcombing, settled mind solving the need for a cave in the region, and safehouse customization allowing more viable base locations that aren't wolf central garage. But the addition of Sutherland has sealed it as the absolute best region in the game in my opinion, everything you need is in the region or just 1 region over. Absolutely stellar location now in every way.
The biggest problem with coastal highway is the lack of any bigger stoves. You save soo much resources with 6 burner stoves, because you can make water and cook many times faster. It also directly correlates to both calories and wood usage, so smaller stoves can quite literally triple your overall resource usage.
@@peoplez129 That's true. However, I've never had troubles with multiple fires next to the car on clear days even on Loper. Thankfully coal is infinite and not too far away. Stockpiling wood isn't too bad either, done that multiple times fishing to cure cabin fever (before settled mind run).
I like that there are a bunch of resources that were (technically) finite before that you can now aquire from the trader. I wonder if the Fire Striker is available on all difficulties?
Yet another reason to use Coastal Highway as you main base's location, in addition to the combination of safe and fast travel on the ice, easy access to fish for vitamin C, a long shoreline for beach-combing, and being smack dam in between Desolation Point for the forge and Bleak Inlet for the milling machine and ammo workbench if you're playing with the firearms turned on. On that point, you can apparently cure fish now, so I wonder how that works with vitamin C. Also, the main problem with meat was that it smells when you carry it around, not that it doesn't keep for long, since you can still keep it around forever and then cook up what you need to bring it back up to 50%, or straight up ignore the condition once you max out your cooking skill.
A clear day on the ice and its very easy to avoid any wolves or even to lure a deer to them. Although costal has always been my favourite location so i may be biased

I think it can be explained through wintermute lore. I won't spoil it too much, and what I will spoil is in the first episode. The great bear island, as seen from the brouchures, is a slowly dying island even before the collapse. Makenzie and Astrid fly to the island to deliver some kind of stuff. That's being said. Trader most likely has the same reasons as Astrid and Makenzie in story mode
There has been a slight change in the interaction of you notifying the trader that the trade was completed. When I did my second exchange, I went through what should have been the notification and he basically said "going out" or something like that but the Trade Box was still locked when I went out the next day. I did report the problem and then went to Desolation to find the battery stash in Hibernia which I did but I left the batteries there as I had quite a few already (gods that was a struggle to lug them to the Quonset). I went through the notification routine again when the aurora activated the radio and THIS TIME I heard what sounded like a different voice and it also said that I should find my stuff in the Trade box. That was brand new to me. I do not believe I had heard that before. The next day the Trade box let me get my stuff. So that bug got fixed at some point.
3:25 I was a bit to hasty agreeing to one of his trades. I asked for two food items (which only require meat and water) and the wolfskin pants recipe. But now I believe it's gonna be too hard to get another three effing car batteries for that candy bar recipe thingy. Can I just add the tradeware for the two food items and conclude the trade without losing trust? Should be possible right?
You don’t have to wait for the next aurora to complete a trade if your fast you can run back to the radio, let him know it’s done, and run back to the pier and the trade items will be there
Also should have added you can agree to the trade the same night as well, so everything can be done in one aurora if you are fast. I did it myself last night just because I had no idea what I was doing and that’s how it worked out.
If the traderhas A BOAT... there could be "ending" to TLD, by offering him a lot of stuff in exchange for departure from the island. Or maybe building your own ship - for fast-travel? Or searching for Astrid? Or... or... So many options 🙂
Really excited for the trader, unfortunately I'm currently stuck at Bunker Omega. Since the update I can't access the secret room in the Bunker anymore...
Playing on Nintendo, the game crashes anytime you try to leave a region. It's pretty much unplayable. Waiting years for the updates and dlc and the game is busted.
Am I the only weird one who likes to find a little desk lamp and point it at the tradio so it can illuminate it while me and my boy Sutherland chat? It gets pretty dark and I’m not one to waste undue lamp fuel illuminating the surroundings with a storm lantern. And it’s some nice immersion 🥶
Yeah, my long-run voyager got stuck in the bugged bush in HRV so I started a new one to test the cougar and the trader and the grace period is a bit annoying.
I've found 2 of these radios in the far territory, one in the Terminal in Forsaken Airfield, and one in the little train waiting room in Transfer Pass but they don't seem to work, even during an Aurora.
@@gregoryholtorf7874 Gotta be a bug then. My 450 day stalker run had tales done and was at quonset CH when I loaded after the update and that night was an Aurora that woke my character up and you could hear the radio making noises before you activated it
One question, how long do you have to collect and bring all the items to the locker? Does the trade "time out" or does it just start active until you add all the required items?
Do you have to fix the transmitter to talk to the trader. Some people have said you do and others don’t mention it so I was just wondering if you have to or not. Unfortunately I have not gotten the update yet because I am on ps4 so hopefully it will come out soon.
so wait do you have to repair something to get the trader active or does it just start like the cougars just without the cutscene? ive been finding both answers
One of my saves got screwed from the update lol, every time I leave the camp office it says it couldn't load save, then makes me go back to the main menu lol
I think if that really cool and unique gun in the thumbnail is one of the trader’s offers that’d definitely be worth the hike. But for some dried apples or canned pineapples, yea I’m not sure that’d be particularly worth it
anyone know yet if there is any sort of time limit? like once you agree / initiate a trade can you take any amount of time getting the items and then confirming the trade?
oh boy i am so excited to check all this new content! :) i am not sure if i want to start some completely new run to explore everything with new additions or continue my older run? How you gonna play it ppl? :)
Using my old save ATM.Although I am thinking of starting afresh. I still have to find the wood working tools and having to check all the places that I've already checked seems a bit tiring. There would no other loot in there except for the new stuff they added like film cassettes, salt bags, etc..
I started on the old loper main run where I am on 250 days, but I am hearing from a few people to avoid this (atleast on main run) as there are lots of bugs. All my stuff that was outdoors got packed in red boxes in each region, which is really frustrating as I scattered food and water all around the map by making stashes in caves. Safehouse customisation is also bugged. like once I moved my yellow storage containers, there is no prompt of the interaction cursor on it. Best advised to try new update on new run.
@@whitedeath47 thanks for info so maybe i should wait few more days or week for maybe soem fix patches, but also i think it will be better just to start fresh and explore everything "untouched" :)

Then I was probably just lucky, four times in a row. For me it always triggered. However, once the items were collected then you normally had to wait for an aurora.
@Zaknafein It's some good luck, but it would make for a great feature if it was officially implimented to help speed up unnecessary downtime waiting in CH.

I tried asking in the forum but so far I got no response. Are you aware whether there is or not loot that is exclusive to non-interloper difficulties? like the bushcraft bow or mukluks?
@@Zaknafein Kinda lame, imo. For the time investment (repair towers, repeated visits to radio during aurora, repeated trades to build trust, scouring the world for car batteries, chopping dozens of limbs, etc.) the Trader should provide *end game* loot you cannot get any other way. On interloper, that should mean loot that doesn't spawn there. I can *maybe* understand no rifle, but why no revolver, survival knife, or mukluks? (Are those really that much better than bow, cougar knife, and deerskin boots?) Just seems like a missed opportunity. As it stands, the Trader only looks attractive (on Interloper) for flour, flare shells, and the wolfskin pants recipe. That's it. (Food recipes: I haven't seen a game changer yet. What advantage is there, really?)
@@Larknok1 I mean I get it, and tbh I'm kinda sad too. But it's loper! :) I think that was to be expected. Also, we don't need the revolver or mukluks to survive, do we? :P Imo this update was incredibly good and I'm thankful either way :)
Tbh i dont really get why isnt it a survival game on the "goal" to survive ? In my mind why not contacting rescue teams so u can get out of this place ? Crashing with a plane and live there for eternity is idk i thought it was a mod but apperently not qwq
This is unrelated, but day 4 of my new stalker run for the new update, anyways the ash canyon Moose now spawns way nearer to anglers den, it spawns right outside on the clearing near climbers cave now so either watch out or get hunting! Update: there is now a wolf at the summit so anyone going up there should be careful!
I’ll never understand why people get so upset over updates. The devs put in a lot of hard work to make survival mode have more replay value and if you don’t like the trader you can just ignore the radio and play the game same way you always have. I like the idea of there being someone else out in the world you can at least talk to, it really helps with late game runs where you’ve done pretty much everything there is to do.

I'm pretty sure you also get an Aurora the evening you pick up your stuff after the trade is complete. I have on the last 3 trades.
I didnt, four times in a row, so doesnt seem like it. Unless it was a bug
Make sure you feed the cougar
Very cool.
Finally we are not alone in survival!
So now in custom difficulties, aurora frequency basically will be how often you want to trade lol
Sooo this is lowkey a new way of guaranteeing an aroura if you're collecting buffer memories? Or want to access that mine on CH? Sweet 😁
You don’t have to wait for the next aurora to complete a trade if your fast you can run back to the radio, let him know it’s done, and run back to the pier and the trade items will be there
Back to the radio? You mean if you start a trade and already have all the items right away?
Correct. You can run and drop the items off, run back to the radio and tell him it’s complete, and run back and collect your items during one aurora
Also should have added you can agree to the trade the same night as well, so everything can be done in one aurora if you are fast. I did it myself last night just because I had no idea what I was doing and that’s how it worked out.
Hello there friends!
Cheers from Poland 🍻
If the traderhas A BOAT... there could be "ending" to TLD, by offering him a lot of stuff in exchange for departure from the island. Or maybe building your own ship - for fast-travel? Or searching for Astrid? Or... or... So many options 🙂
Let's just say i would ask him about a ride home before i asked about the penmican bar. And pemmican is a good treat ;)
it wood makes sense of the trader could rescue you
Really excited for the trader, unfortunately I'm currently stuck at Bunker Omega.
Can you relocate the radio to your main base? I’m assuming it’s not a fixed item like a toilet or stove
No
I've found 2 of these radios in the far territory, one in the Terminal in Forsaken Airfield, and one in the little train waiting room in Transfer Pass but they don't seem to work, even during an Aurora.
If its a new run did you wait out the timer like Zak says at 4:20
@ not a new run. 380 days in stalker run that I’ve been playing since the save file wipe
@@gregoryholtorf7874 Strange maybe a bug. Out of curiosity have you got those signal towers repaired between there and ch?
@ I’ve done all the Tales.
@@gregoryholtorf7874 Gotta be a bug then. My 450 day stalker run had tales done and was at quonset CH when I loaded after the update and that night was an Aurora that woke my character up and you could hear the radio making noises before you activated it
Geez Zak, I've just hauled all my raw bear meat and water to the wrong island!!
Whoops. Partially my bad! Sorry
@Zaknafein all good!! It's all good fun and needed to be explored anyway 😀👍🏻
One question, how long do you have to collect and bring all the items to the locker?
Does the trade "time out" or does it just start active until you add all the required items?
Forever, I believe
Hey Zach I don't know if you remember my comment but I did find the pliers they were in the lost and found box
Do you have to fix the transmitter to talk to the trader. Some people have said you do and others don’t mention it so I was just wondering if you have to or not. Unfortunately I have not gotten the update yet because I am on ps4 so hopefully it will come out soon.
Nope. All you need is an aurora and a certain number of days survived and it'll work.
You dont need to
I wonder if the rifle is available on gunloper
so wait do you have to repair something to get the trader active or does it just start like the cougars just without the cutscene? ive been finding both answers
You dont need to repair anything.
You are probably thinking of the radio towers - thats for Signal Void
One of my saves got screwed from the update lol, every time I leave the camp office it says it couldn't load save, then makes me go back to the main menu lol
Same here
Heard people fully closing the game and reopening fixes this. Others claim resetting console works too.
@@Moz29 i tried everything but nothing
@@Regrubenxito Apparently its a bug with Aurora. Can you sleep until day, save, then reload the game?
like the idea but having to go from my main base allll the way to coastal highway? Doesnt seem like the stuff you can get is worth the time
I think if that really cool and unique gun in the thumbnail is one of the trader’s offers that’d definitely be worth the hike. But for some dried apples or canned pineapples, yea I’m not sure that’d be particularly worth it
Think there's a radio in every region as there's one in mystery lake
anyone know yet if there is any sort of time limit? like once you agree / initiate a trade can you take any amount of time getting the items and then confirming the trade?
What if you're playing on a custom setting?
Where the crap am I supposed to get all these batteries
oh boy i am so excited to check all this new content! :) i am not sure if i want to start some completely new run to explore everything with new additions or continue my older run?
How you gonna play it ppl? :)
new run ofc
Both lol, I have my 90 day run going but have almost everything looted so I started a new run just for the trader
@@whitedeath47 thanks for info so maybe i should wait few more days or week for maybe soem fix patches, but also i think it will be better just to start fresh and explore everything "untouched" :)
what about trader in custom dificulty?
Damn what area or region is it around the 0:46 mark? Totally don't remember this.
Weather station in Sundered Pass
Well... I have broken down every car battery in my main run, because they didn't have any other purpose other than lead for bullets before the update. Now I will never going to get all collectables, recipes and item variants in my main run (which is around 270 days old). That frustrates me...
500 days series can probably barely keep up with all this cool new stuff
Are you talking about the wintermute DLC or a new dlc for trader because I don't see a new one?
The regular DLC for survival. Tales from the Far Territory. There is no DLC for Wintermute.
oh yea...hey Zak😁
Hi, I'm Brazilian and I love your content, I wanted to ask a question, I play on the PS5, I also have a PC, but it's shorter to play on the PS5, and I have the DLC, but what you show is some kind of mode, why does the new animal only work in miserable mode, sorry, I'm English. Terrible, I wanted to know if I can play anyway and find the items and the new animals? I don't know if you understand
You mean Misery? No, the animal is on all difficulties. If you have the DLC you can find it all, though its not updated on PS yet
Thanks Zak! Can you move the radios with safe house customisation? It would be neat, but I assume you cannot.
You can't.
No, because people will put the radio in Jackrabbit house, to make trade more easy.
@@Sokol10 That would only save a couple minutes at most. Still have to gather and bring the items to the same drop box no matter what.
@@NormalcyManthanks for info. I won’t lie I thought about bringing radio to the island with trading box lol just for convenience.
Why can’t we move the radios? The model is literally a PORTABLE radio.
That is true but is just to make the game a little more challenging. I live in camp office so it isn't to much of a problem for me.
Question, does lamp oil need a certain condition to be able to trade it
Dont think so, no
@@Zaknafein i could not transfer a jerry can to the trader inventory, i had two, one was about 70% and the other was about 20%. i will head back to ch and will update you
@josipbukovac4734 you need lantern fuel. He wont accept jerry cans
@@Zaknafein i have lantern fuel as well, its all about 20% condition
@@Zaknafein found a 50% jerry can and it worked
Putting all the items for a trade in a box doesn't always trigger an aurora. Multiple times I've had to wait several days for an aurora to come along after dropping everything off.
Then I was probably just lucky, four times in a row. For me it always triggered. However, once the items were collected then you normally had to wait for an aurora.
@Zaknafein It's some good luck, but it would make for a great feature if it was officially implimented to help speed up unnecessary downtime waiting in CH.
Yoo they added Penobscot bows??
How is Trader loot on interloper? What *can't* you get?
(I was seriously hoping the Trader would allow *some* insanely rare way to get certain items that don't spawn on Loper, like the revolver, or survival knife.)
I was literally just thinking that. I wonder if you can get the new bunker rifle if you are on interloper
@@jasonruggles4622the worst thing with this videos that all of they made on pilgrim-stalker, i am playing only on misery now and planning on 100% the game, and really want to know what the trader can offer, but there's no video covering that
@@OldGodOfAsgard I think some of the food recipes heal you. Not sure if intentional for misery or not but that would make trader essential.
@@Moz29 the breyerhouse pie is infinite now, if u use the trader, that's awesome stuff because it will help do the 100% misery run
@@OldGodOfAsgard Somebody posted here that interloper has reduced trade options. They claimed no food, wolfhead, bow, gun or knife. Not sure about vit c pills/ food recipes
Feel like the firts time you contact the trader you should have an option to leave the island and "finish" the game or continue surviving that would be a nice ending to the infinite game
That assumes the Trader wants that too
It would be great if there was an alarm clock to let you know when there is an aurora.
Interesting idea
i was hopping for trading hides for stuff just to help make hides worth something
I tried asking in the forum but so far I got no response. Are you aware whether there is or not loot that is exclusive to non-interloper difficulties? like the bushcraft bow or mukluks?
Yes those are not on loper
Salt you can find plenty elsewhere in the world -- and besides, why advantage is curing meat on day 200 when you eat dozens of piles of ruined bear/moose meat to get to day 200? What advantage is there, really?)
@@Larknok1 I mean I get it, and tbh I'm kinda sad too. But it's loper! :) I think that was to be expected. Also, we don't need the revolver or mukluks to survive, do we? :P Imo this update was incredibly good and I'm thankful either way :)
What about that gun on the thumbnail
I think it is for when you get his full trust
@Zaknafein thanks
Can you trade for whetstones and cleaning kits?
Tbh i dont really get why isnt it a survival game on the "goal" to survive ? In my mind why not contacting rescue teams so u can get out of this place ? Crashing with a plane and live there for eternity is idk i thought it was a mod but apperently not qwq
i just hope they lower the requirments a little bit. 3 batteries for 5 bullets. batteries are not THAT plentiful. at least in my experiences.
Don't think bullets require batteries, just the blueprints
Is there a time limit on the trades? Like if an aurora hits before i can gather everything and get to CH will he call it off?
i wonder the same, any1 knows is there a certain time of delivery till trader gets mad?
I dont think so
Way cool.
I kinda wanna call this new wolf something now, this wolf will be Sunny and that’s how I’m gonna call them from now on.
I’ll never understand why people get so upset over updates. The devs put in a lot of hard work to make survival mode have more replay value and if you don’t like the trader you can just ignore the radio and play the game same way you always have. I like the idea of there being someone else out in the world you can at least talk to, it really helps with late game runs where you’ve done pretty much everything there is to do.
is the new bunker rifle and. Bullet available for trade in interloper?
I doubt it
Dumb question: Are any of the bow/arrow/knife/rifle available on interloper?
Also mukluks are they on loper trades?
Havent checked but I doubt it
@@Zaknafein Thanks!
