Mike Thorne was responsible for some major hits and quite influential. He also had a lot to do with the synclavier. Besides his work as a producer I’m pretty sure he signed the Sex Pistols.

Michael is simply wonderful. We are the DIRECT recipients of his genius and kindness. The albums and artists he produced along with TWO of our songs being analyzed in pre-production by him have had a HUGE positive impact on our creative journey. We are SO grateful for ALL of his contributions. Thank you, Michael!

I have only sen Michaels name written in various places, I remembered it because I love michael beihn from aliens and terminator. Michael beinhorn is probably the person who I admire more then any other person ever, and Ive only found out about who he is from these videos. Michael is the most well spoken artist I have ever seen, and he doesnt hve to speak in a non-risk way. he can say whatever he wants. This is the best thing that I have ever seen, the videos youve done with him, I mean.

Wow! Beinhorn is one of my favorite producers of all time, he produced my favorite albums yet I still didnt knew he was the creator of the Fresh sound that you hear on literally every hip hop record and on every scratches in the world. I always thought that originated from Doug E Fresh. That is mindblowing. I had no idea he was actually responsable for putting hip hop on the map in the early 80s. I had no idea that Herbie Hancock basically kickstarted hip hop into the mainstream along with Sugarhill with Rockit that is basically produced by Beinhorn and Material. That is mindblowing. This livestream was golden!

Loved the "rats at the 930 club" mention. I was working with a band in 1989. Their first show of the tour was at the 930. They had just received a dozen (or more, I forget) Marshall cabs but no road cases for them. I had to stand in the rat-infested alley behind the club and turn the Marshall boxes into cases while hundreds of rats ran over my feet!

There are some really interesting points being brought up here. I think a more realistic way of looking at plagiarism cases would be to ask, "Did anyone buy Blurred Lines instead of Got To Give It Up?" Probably not, they just bought it because they liked it, I have copies of both tracks and I don't think that there was any plagiarism, yes, a similar vibe but no deliberate copying...if they had sampled the percussion track, that would be a different matter.

👏🏻👏🏻I think this one might be your best one yet Warren 👍🏻👍🏻
Unfortunately, I missed this when it was live.
I didn't really know anything about M.B. prior to this. I did listen to an interview he did on Bobby Owsinski's Inner Circle a few years ago though.
It appears that M.B. and I have a few things in common: we're both "Red Sea Pedestrians" (a little Life of Brian for ya 🤣) from the New York Metro area, and we're not particularly enamored with the SM57/Marshall combination; and we both both have CBGBs experiences: him as a performer, and me as an intern when I was Music Business major at New York University in the early '90s. Damn that bathroom was nasty ‼️ 😆 And Hilly's disgusting dog-💩ing all over the damn club ‼️ 🤢😡🤯 And Joey Ramone sometimes popping in for day time meetings with Louise during brief moments of lucidity and maybe even briefly sober as well. 🤪🤣
We all agree about the wonders of the U67, and the M 160 as well.
I'm glad to see that M.B. appreciates heavy strings and understands the sound the sound properties. All of the vintage guitars we love originally came with .013 or .012 high E strings, .056 low E strings, and would G strings; most of the time, flat-wounds. I use .012 and .013 sets on all of my guitars.
    Regarding Song Copyrights and Publishing
I have very strong points of view on this topic. I basically agree with everything you both said here, but a few things:
-It believe it has to be established the accused plagiarizer did so knowingly and with intent; however, that could have changed. Which reminds me of what Bob Feldman said when he was sitting right next to me at the Songwriters Guild in New York: "Plagiarism: A great tool."
-We all borrow, and we all want our influences to be known (to some degree anyway).
-Everyone should receive what they are rightfully due: credit; credit; payment; etc.
-As much as we might love Jimmy Page, he is definitely a plagiarist. The two Willie Dixon songs aside, he deliberately stole "Dazed and Confused" from Jake Holmes after seeing him perform it at a club in Greenwich Village while on tour with The Yardbirds in 1968; conversely, "Stairway To Heaven" was clearly influenced by Randy California's "Taurus," performed by his band, Spirit, but definitely not "stollen." One has to wonder if the title was copped from Neil Sedaka's 1960 hit, "Stairway To Heaven," but a title can't be copyrighted, nor should it be.
-"He's So fine vs. "My Sweet Lord" ? I call BULL-SHIT on that one 🤬
-"Got To give It up" vs. "Blurred Lines" ? Well, the lines are definitely blurred; but I would have to side in favor of Marvin Gaye's Estate: to my ears, it wasn't about it simply being an influence (subconscious or not), or a rhythm or "groove," but it was musically too close to Marvin Gaye's original.
I was working with a singer/songwriter/performer from New Zealand a few years ago, who had an original that was a dead “copy” of “Black Night” from Deep Purple. Richie Blackmore arguably copied it from Rising Ricky Nelson’s version “Summertime.” The artist in question claimed he never heard “Black Night” until I had him listen to it.
Thank you as always Warren ❣️🙏🏻

Copyright is innocent. There is nothing wrong with owning something you create, what is wrong is the habit for vexatious litigation and the way stuff gets licensed. Classical composers have been quoting each other for centuries; Folk music and, as someone else mentioned, Reggae have been sharing and re-using tunes for decades, so the onus really should be on proving that the phrase in dispute is unique and could not have been arrived at by independent means to a certain extent. Arguing about musical ideas shorter than a full phrase is rather pointless for this reason - as Michael said melody and lyrics, fine; you can copyright a whole tune. It's equally important to give credit where it's due, I think that alone can make the difference between a quote and a steal. If listeners can follow the paper-trail lineage back to the original everyone can have a slice of the cake.
