I ADORE this. I just took a screenshot of your comment to share with my yoga students and to remind MYSELF as well. How BRAVE of me to try. That's so on point.
I started doing this years ago and it’s been lifechanging. I promise you, anyone who keeps up with it long-term will feel their thoughts and daily mood change!
Hi Shelbi, Italian and moka lover here! If I may give you a tip, you don't need to boil water beforehand and then pour it into your moka; you just need to fill the lower part with moka (cold water is perfectly fine), then you put the filter thingy on top (do not fill it with too much coffee or else it won't come out), close the whole thing down with the top part and just place it onto the stove (remember to put it at a low-medium temperature)! I'd suggest you to prepare coffeecoffee and then NOT drinking it so that the moka will go through a sort of trial test (once will be fine); then, you'll be able to use it normally! Hope it helps :)
Yes, I second all of this!! I think it tastes better when you start with cold water, not sure why. Also there is usually a line that tells you how much water you should put in (because Shelbi was wondering if she put enough water ;)).
@@Nina-jo8bm you should fill it up to the point where the pot starts "slimming" (have you noticed that it has a sort of "border"? I don't know how to explain it properly 🥲). You shouldn't fill it up to the end because once you put the filter into it, water will eventually drip down. A good tip to know if you've put the right amount of water is this (told by my grandpa): you should put enough water so that when you put the filter in it, it gets a little water in it but not TOO much. Then, proceed by putting coffee in it. Also, as for cold water, it's actually a matter of science: cold water boils faster, resulting in coffee being ready in a few minutes. Hope it helps 🙂
I concur with this, Moka pots (or greca, we call it like that in Puerto Rico) are my favorite way of doing coffee too. Less wasteful than using my french press when I’m alone, and stronger choice of course 😊
I like your idea of checking out experiences you can have in the state you live in. After not being able to travel because of COVID, just going out to dinner and a movie feels like a mini vacation and as you said has a low carbon footprint.
That's exactly what I've been thinking lately. Maybe it's just me having covid (🥴 after 2.5 years, it got me) but I don't necessarily feel the need to go somewhere far away just to have fun. I still love travelling and I'll always love travelling, I'm just learning new things and rediscovering the reality around me 🥰
Aw the coffee maker is so nostalgic for me. Its also called a cafenero or a cuban coffee maker. My family is Dominican (another island in the Caribbean) and I grew up with that contraption on my stove too. I actually wanna get a tattoo of it to remember my mother haha.
grow watermelons instead of pumpkins! similar space requirement and care but they like hot. i live in maine and its too cold for watermelons, we grow squash pretty good though. you can also start collard greens, they can deal with cold and hot. your cucumber might need fertilizer, i've been using banana peels lately, if you cut it up, let it sit in water for 24 hours it adds alot of flowering/fruiting nutrients (potasium and, i always forget the other one).
you might also like cold brewed coffee. it's very different from drip coffee, and you don't use any fuel to heat it up or anything. you can also freeze it (comes in handy since otherwise you have to plan to make it in advance) but then it's back to using energy : )
I heard of some people making hot coffee (because it’s all they had or something) and then making ice cubes out of creamer or even making them from more coffee so it wouldn’t water down
Even if you microwave the coffee after cold brewing it it still tastes really good! I find that cold brewing helps remove a lot of that classic “acidic” coffee taste.
@@SaveMoneySavethePlanet I agree! I had to stop drinking coffee for a while b.c. of the acid and came to love cold brew! I also drink it hot sometimes.
Another low space, low waste way to make coffee is the French Press. Do pick glass over plastic for the cylinder pot; the coffee tastes different. Do pick chrome covered, stainless with built-in feet for the frame; the coffee tastes different. Do pick one labeled as 12 cup, or 10 cup; it is easier to control the coffee flavor by varying the volume of grounds, length of brew, temperature of the water, grind size, and type of grounds. You can't get the flavor of a steamed or high pressure expresso machine/ pot but you can control a number of the factors. If just wanting a cup of coffee, you can get even the house brand of Folger's to taste much differnet than in a drop pot. You'll use far fewer grounds to get a comparable flavored coffee from a drip pot, but if just getting a cup of coffee comparable to a drop pot you can skimp on the grounds and brew longer too.
A little trick for the milk frother - run it on the hot setting once, and then on the cold setting right after. For the cold setting, keep the power button pressed for a bit longer and you should see the light turn blue instead of red. The extra mixing time makes for a thicker, more velvety foam 😋
All my homemade coffee is cold brew and I highly recommend. It's completely zero waste, less acidic so it doesn't give me heartburn, I can control how strong I want it based on how long I let it infuse, I can make big batches to prep for my week, and I can warm it up in the microwave if I need a hot cup ☕️
I am also a mokapot gal! I've tried making every type of coffee at home but always come back to my mokapot. I've been using the same Bialetti for the last 7 years, and it really helps me regulate my coffee intake. It tastes delicious, is inconvenient enough to prevent me from making another, and there are no paper filters or coffee socks to be bothered with. Perfecto ✌️
I needed to hear the advice about the brown leaves. I'm trying to actually keep plants alive for once in my life and even though I'm doing a pretty good job my strawberry's got brown leaves and it made me wonder if I'm failing. It's a relief to know it's normal.
When using your moka, you don't have to use hot water, just put it on the stove as is ^^ you did put enough water but it's the steam from the stove heat that's gonna push the water trough the coffee. I know it for the video but leave the lid closed when heating, you'll now it's ready by the gurgling sound of it, when the sound starts, just cut the heat and wait a minute :D if you want something a bit more subtil, just reduce by +- 20% the amount of coffee for same amount of water. I hope you'll enjoy your next espresso
I also live in a climate where it's over 100 degrees for at least 4 months out of the year (and well over 90 degrees for at least 6 months). I start my pumpkins in 4 inch pots around March 1st, so that I can bring them inside if we have a random cold night or two. Then I plant them out in the garden in beginning to mid-April. The goal is to get several fruit on the vine before the consistent insane heat kicks in. Once that happens, I cover with 40% shade cloth, water well, and just try to keep the vines alive until the fruit mature. The vines usually look terrible and tons of leaves die back during that stage, but I'm able to get pumpkins every year. Planting pumpkin varieties with shorter days to maturity helps too. I laughed about the pomegranate tree. Their roots can be really invasive. I've had to cut through 8-inch ones with an electric saw. The previous owners planted 8 pomegranate trees in our yard, and there were dozens of babies popping up everywhere. I like pomegranates, but I don't need that many! We removed all but one tree, and then spent 3 years fighting the babies coming up from old roots. We eventually won the war, though, so there's hope!
P.S. I just had another thought. I looked it up and squash vine-borers live in Texas. They can kill plants in the squash family very quickly. I wonder if that could be happening to your pumpkins?
You talking to the chickens made me laugh SO HARD LMAO I grew up with a lot of chickens, they are just like that lol Universally like that, it seems lol
Love the hair! My daughter and I get hair cuts about every 2 years, and each time donate our hair for wigs for kids with cancer (Locks of Love.) When you know it is helping people, getting a hair cut is more exciting and less stressful.

I love coffee from a Moka pot! Looking at the size of yours, it looks to me that it's for around 4 espressos. You don't have to put hot water in the beginning so you don't burn yourself, it'll work with cold water too ☺️

Hi, your moka pot is actually an Italian coffee maker. All my Italian friends have it, we had it for a long long time but the heat melts the handle after a while and after replacing many handles, we moved to an expresso machine 😀 Enjoy your coffee but careful with the handle If you are a coffee lover, this is the best Enjoy!
I normally don't leave this kind of comments, BUT I really feel the need to instruct you on the use of a moka: 1. Put cold water in the bottom part 2. I miss my old mocha pot so much. I will say, mocha pots are for some reason really easy to find at thrift stores. I've never gotten one new and up until my last move I had one for years, and I don't think that I ever paid more than about $5 for any of them.
Could you make a video on how to best store fruits and vegetables so they stay fresh longer to reduce the amount of food waste? This has been one of my biggest problems that I am slowly trying to fix and I would love to have some tips!
Those frothers suck though we've gone through 3 and now have a different brand because I'm sick of the planned obsolescence. I would love to find one that doesn't crap out after a year. With the tomato's it's not ideal to plant them in the same bed over and over as they deplete the soil of the nutrients they need and they are also more susceptible to disease. But looks like your replenishing the soil alot too. It's tricky when you have a small space as well
Just a warning to be very careful using those stovetop moka pots. A few years ago we had one that malfunctioned on us. The pressure release didn't open and it exploded. It sounded like a bomb went off! I kid you not! It flew across the room and hit the opposite wall, denting the wall and sending coffee EVERYWHERE! We were renting at the time and had to repaint the entire room, including the ceiling and wash the cupboards down with pure bleach to get the stains out. We were just lucky no one was standing at the stove or they would have been seriously hurt! I have banned mokas from my house.
the reason that the pumpkins might not be surviving besides the heat is because you're having them grow vertically. usually, pumpkin plants like crawling over the ground, i think because they re-attach themselves to the ground here and there with new roots?
in my family we only use those coffee makers (and in a lot of europe in general because its cheap and easy). it doesnt make espresso, just normal coffee
My Moka pot recently broke. It wasn’t the best quality. After making coffee I went to unscrew the bottom. It wouldn’t budge and the plastic handle came off. I hope this doesn’t happen to yours. I’m still sad about it. If you ever end up on a sleeper train. I would love to see a vlog. The only one I know about is in CA.
My new approach to failure is to replace “how shitty of me to fail” with “how brave of me to try!”
It’s really helped, give it a go☺️
I ADORE this. I just took a screenshot of your comment to share with my yoga students and to remind MYSELF as well. How BRAVE of me to try. That's so on point.

Your moka pot is sooooo cute!
It is a BIG change! But it looks wonderful anyway!
im in florida 9b and it's time now for pumpkins, maybe you can try now :) texas has been compared to florida heat weather
in my family we only use those coffee makers (and in a lot of europe in general because its cheap and easy). it doesnt make espresso, just normal coffee
I haven't finished the video yet, but I need to know where you got your convertible kneeling stool/desk chair!!
Loving the Mocca, you are like a real Italian now! They take their Mocca everywhere
Do you recommend an eco-friendly moka pot?
Bleeping out the name of the voice assistant SENT ME lmao
